Insight Vacations

Taste traditional Polish dishes at a local Warsaw restaurant, with wine and the company of your Travel Director and fellow travellers. This hosted dinner offers an introduction to the capital through its food rather than its monuments.

Polish cooking draws on ingredients such as mushrooms, cabbage and grains, shaped by regional traditions and changing seasons. Settle into the restaurant’s warm surroundings and share a meal that marks the beginning of your time in Poland.

Visit the University Botanic Gardens with a biologist to learn how this green space helps protect biodiversity and conserve endangered wild species native to Poland. Explore the gardens through the perspective of someone engaged with the plants and their preservation.

Established in the early 19th century, the gardens offer a quieter side of central Warsaw. This MAKE TRAVEL MATTER® experience connects a garden visit with ongoing conservation work and supports UN Sustainable Development Goal 15: Life on Land.

Explore Vilnius with a Local Expert, discovering its Old Town, neoclassical cathedral, historic university and Gates of Dawn. Visit the Church of St Peter and St Paul, whose Baroque interior is filled with more than 2,000 intricate white stucco sculptures.

Walk through Užupis, the artists’ self-proclaimed republic, and hear how its creative community helped revitalise the neighbourhood after the Soviet era. Vilnius’s winding streets reveal layers of religious, academic and artistic history in one compact capital.

Cross the wooden footbridge to Trakai Island Castle, a restored red-brick fortress set among the waters of Lake Galve. Visit the castle and take in the lake setting that made this one of Lithuania’s most recognisable historic sites.

The castle developed during the medieval era, when Trakai was an important centre of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. Its Gothic walls, towers and island position give a tangible sense of the fortress’s former defensive role.

Visit the Hill of Crosses near Šiauliai, where countless crosses and crucifixes crowd a small rise in the Lithuanian countryside. Walk among this striking display of faith and remembrance, built up through individual acts of devotion over generations.

The site became a powerful symbol of resistance during Soviet occupation: crosses were repeatedly removed, yet people continued to place new ones. Its densely layered paths make Lithuania’s history of religious expression and resilience especially tangible.

Discover Riga’s Old Town with a Local Expert, seeing remnants of the city walls, the medieval Three Brothers houses and Riga Castle. Visit Riga Cathedral, also known as the Domkirk, a landmark at the heart of the historic centre.

Riga grew as a Baltic trading city, and its Old Town preserves buildings from centuries of commerce and changing rule. The guided walk places its cobbled streets and varied architecture in context within the city’s UNESCO-listed historic centre.

Explore Riga Central Market with your Local Expert, wandering its busy stalls and sampling local delicacies. Browse the produce and prepared foods that form part of everyday life in Latvia’s capital.

The market occupies vast pavilions built using structures from former Zeppelin hangars, giving its food halls an unusual scale. Colours, aromas and conversations with stallholders offer a lively contrast to the medieval streets nearby and a direct encounter with Riga’s contemporary food culture.

Choose a guided walk through Tallinn’s Old Town and hear your Local Expert describe Estonian arts and crafts. Explore the historic streets while learning about the skills and creative traditions associated with the city.

Tallinn’s medieval centre retains winding lanes, merchant buildings and stretches of defensive wall. This Insight Choice option focuses on the people and traditions behind the streetscape. Choose this walk or the panoramic Town Hall Square tour; both are included alternatives, rather than two separate scheduled tours.

Choose a scenic walking tour of Tallinn with your Local Expert, taking in panoramic views and visiting Town Hall Square. The walk offers a broad introduction to the Estonian capital and its remarkably intact medieval centre.

The square has long been a civic and commercial gathering place, framed by historic buildings including the Gothic Town Hall. This Insight Choice option emphasises city views and landmarks. Choose this tour or the Old Town artisans walk; both are included alternatives.

Share a traditional-flavoured meal at a local Tallinn restaurant with your travelling companions. Freshly prepared food and wine make this hosted dinner an occasion to gather around the table in Estonia’s capital.

Estonian cooking is rooted in seasonal produce and Baltic traditions, with hearty flavours suited to the northern climate. The restaurant setting offers a welcoming way to experience local hospitality and exchange reflections on the places explored across Poland and the Baltic states.

Visit Wilanów Palace on an optional excursion in Warsaw. Built as a residence for King Jan III Sobieski, the palace offers a glimpse of Polish royal life beyond the city centre.

Sobieski is remembered for leading the forces that relieved Vienna during the Ottoman siege of 1683. Wilanów’s Baroque architecture and royal associations distinguish it from Warsaw’s reconstructed Old Town. This experience is at additional cost and bookable on tour.

Explore Warsaw with a Local Expert, passing the Palace of Culture and Science, walking through Lazienki Park to the Chopin Memorial, and visiting the Old Town’s Market Square. See how the capital’s historic centre was painstakingly reconstructed following World War II.

Pause at the Monument to the Ghetto Heroes, which commemorates the 1943 Warsaw Ghetto Uprising. The tour brings together Warsaw’s musical heritage, postwar recovery and the history preserved in its public spaces.
