Additional information
Two Lakes of Badia: Lech Dlá Lunch & Lech da Sompunt
On day 5, take a short bus to Badia and walk to the twin mountain lakes framed by the Somamunt, Col Plo Alt and Pré Janin peaks. Spread out your picnic beside Lech Dlá Lunch, the mirror-still “Lunch Lake,” then climb to Lech da Sompunt, where elegant swans glide across emerald waters. Return through tiny hamlets and hay barns to catch the bus back.
Ladin place-names and long-standing farming traditions give this route a lived-in character. Lakeside reeds rustle, spruce resin scents the air, and the Dolomite cliffs turn silver as clouds shift. It’s a gentle day with scenic viewing and photography woven through every turn of the trail.
Valparola Pass Meadows Walk
On day 6, follow tracks through the Pre de Costa meadows and past Malga Valparola to crest the historic Passo Valparola. Stop at the rifugio for a restorative drink and admire grandstand views over the San Cassiano valley. Confident hikers can extend toward the Setsas area for even wider horizons before returning to base.
Valparola was a strategic corridor during the Great War, and the ridgeline still bears traces of the front. As you walk, your path threads between flowering alpine pastures and weathered rock, where marmots whistle and ptarmigan shelter. The day marries misty mountain passes with quiet history under immense skies.
Fanes–Senes–Braies Natural Park Circuit
On day 7, ride the hotel shuttle to Capanna Alpina or walk from the door, then climb through larch to Col de Locia. Beyond lies the broad Plan de Ciaulunch, a karst plateau leading to the Forcella dl Lech and a jewel-like alpine lake. The descent threads two steep but well-trodden gorges to Rifugio Scotoni, then follows a ski slope back to the start.
Within the UNESCO-listed Fanes–Senes–Braies Park, legends of the Kingdom of Fanes echo across limestone pavements and fossil-rich strata. Expect awe-inspiring views, the possibility of ibex or chough sightings, and the satisfaction of a classic Dolomite circuit shaped by water and stone.
Ciasa Salares Private Mountain Hut Picnic
During the week—typically around day 4 (weather-dependent)—set out for the hotel’s private mountain hut for an included picnic lunch. Reach the hut via a scenic 90-minute walk from the hotel or opt for a quick gondola link before a gentle amble. Settle on the terrace, breathe in pine-scented air and enjoy simple alpine fare with sweeping views of the Dolomites.
This relaxed interlude pairs the region’s pastoral rhythms with high-mountain drama. Ladin farming culture, hay meadows and craggy limestone bastions form the backdrop as you soak in the lakeside atmosphere of pastoral ponds and streams. It’s a delicious pause between bigger hiking days.
Wine Cellar Cheese Tasting & Grappa Introduction
On one evening during your stay, descend to the hotel’s vaulted cellar to sample regional wines alongside local cheeses—an included tasting (one glass of wine) that spotlights South Tyrol’s crisp whites and elegant reds. Knowledgeable staff share pairing tips while you savor artisan wheels from nearby dairies.
Another night, join a complimentary grappa tasting to learn how pomace transforms into Alto Adige’s aromatic digestivo. The session charts grape varieties, distillation styles and serving traditions—an atmospheric way to explore the region’s culinary heritage without leaving your alpine base.
Spa & Alpine Wellness at Ciasa Salares
After the day’s hike, slip into the hotel’s serene wellness area with free spa access for guests. Ease tired legs in the indoor pool, alternate heat and steam in the sauna and Turkish bath, and step into the outdoor hot tub as peaks blush pink at sunset. It’s the perfect post-trail ritual.
Rooted in Alpine wellness traditions, the spa’s warm woods and subtle spruce aromas invite deep relaxation. Between chapters of your Dolomite walks, this quiet haven helps you soak in the lakeside atmosphere of mountain calm and reset for the next day’s adventure.
WW1 Heritage: Forte Tre Sassi Museum, Lagazuoi Cable Car & Fighting Tunnels
On day 6, turn your walk into a history journey: ride the Lagazuoi cable car from Passo Falzarego for sky-high views, then explore the restored wartime tunnels and trenches carved into the mountain. A headlamp and steady footing are recommended. Continue to nearby Forte Tre Sassi at Passo Valparola, where exhibits illuminate the Dolomites front of 1915–1917. This experience is at additional cost and bookable on tour.
Learn how opposing armies fought amid misty mountain passes, using galleries blasted through rock to gain inches of ground. Artefacts and photos add human texture to the epic scenery, framing today’s peaceful paths with poignant context.
Alta Badia Scenic Gondolas & Chairlifts
Enhance your walking week by adding scenic uplifts such as the Piz Sorega gondola to reach airy meadows without the climb, or ride toward the Pralongià plateau for immediate horizon-wide views. Mix and match rides with hiking segments to suit the day’s weather and your energy. Uplifts are at additional cost and are bookable locally during the tour.
Operating typically from late spring to early autumn, the lift network connects villages and rifugi across UNESCO Dolomite scenery. It’s ideal for sunrise strolls, long-lens photography and those moments when you want to pause for photos and reflection above the treeline.
Spa Treatments & Alpine Massages
Complement your included spa access with targeted sports massages, alpine-herb body treatments or facials tailored to post-hike recovery. Book a late-afternoon slot to unwind before dinner and let expert therapists focus on calves, back and shoulders. Treatments are at additional cost and are bookable at reception during the tour.
Drawing on mountain botanicals and heat-therapy know-how, these sessions deepen relaxation and prepare you for the next day’s trails. It’s an indulgent way to soak in the lakeside atmosphere of the Dolomites’ slow evenings.
Cheese Room or Chocolate Room Tasting Experience
Reserve an evening in the hotel’s distinctive Cheese Room or Chocolate Room for a curated flight guided by the team. Sample aged local cheeses or single-origin chocolates, sometimes paired with wines from the cellar, and learn about mountain dairies, alpine affinage and cacao styles. This experience is at additional cost and can be arranged on tour, subject to availability.
The setting is intimate and atmospheric—perfect after a day of hiking. Expect sensory detail: nutty rinds, floral alpine notes, velvety cocoa and stories that connect flavors to people and place.
E-Mountain Bike Hire in Alta Badia
Swap hiking boots for pedals and hire an e-mountain bike from the hotel to explore Alta Badia’s well-signed bike routes. Cruise between San Cassiano, Corvara and Colfosco, stop at panoramic viewpoints, and roll into a rifugio terrace for a leisurely lunch. Hire is at additional cost and can be arranged on tour.
With pedal-assist smoothing the climbs, you’ll cover more ground while still feeling the alpine breeze and resin-scented woods. Helmets and route suggestions keep things simple, leaving you free to enjoy scenic viewing and photography at every bend.
San Cassiano to Corvara High-Plateau Walk
On day 4, choose to ascend by the Piz Sorega gondola or hike up through larch and meadow to the Alta Badia plateau. From the top, paths undulate toward famed rifugi where a steaming polenta or slice of speck pairs perfectly with panoramic Dolomite views. Continue to Corvara, pause for photos and reflection in the village, then return by bus to San Cassiano.
Here the landscape reads like a geologist’s textbook: stratified limestone walls, glacial benches and broad pastures used for summer grazing. Clear days reveal Marmolada’s glacier and, to the north, outlines of the Austrian Alps. The airy feel and well-marked paths make this a signature Alta Badia ramble.
Santa Croce Pilgrimage Path & Badia
On day 3, set out from the hotel (or take the shuttle) to join the historic pilgrimage path that skirts above San Cassiano before weaving through serene woods. The route passes Stations of the Cross en route to the sanctuary of Santa Croce (La Crusc), tucked beneath the pale walls of Sas dla Crusc. Admire sweeping views across the valley, then descend to Badia for a relaxed stroll and a bus ride back.
The church complex dates to medieval times and remains a focal point of Ladin culture and language. Your walk reveals how faith routes doubled as trade paths, linking farms and hamlets under the echoing cathedral nave of the Dolomites themselves. Expect quiet trails, carved wayside shrines and a contemplative pace.
Pralongià Plateau Walk from Armentarola
On day 2, join a self-guided hike straight from Armentarola, climbing gently through pine forest and alpine meadows toward the broad Pralongià plateau. The trail opens to vast views of the Sella massif, Sassongher and Marmolada, with welcoming rifugi offering lunch or space to unroll your picnic. Return by bus or hotel shuttle, or continue on foot for a satisfying descent back to San Cassiano.
This high meadow is part of the UNESCO Dolomites, where pale limestone cliffs rise above flowered pastures grazed in summer by Ladin farmers. Expect 360-degree panoramas and a tangible sense of altitude as you pause to pause for photos and reflection on an ancient landscape shaped by ice and time.
