Walking the Akamas Peninsula route map

Arrive in the delightful Cypriot village of Droushia and settle in. You’ll be staying here for the next 4 nights. Stay at the Droushia Heights Hotel on a Bed & Breakfast basis for 4 nights.

Meals: Breakfast

Today’s circular walk from Droushia passes through the delightful stone-built villages of Kritou Terra and Kato Arodes. Walk past orchards and vineyards and enjoy great views of the local area. Head to the Kremitois Waterfall and the charming, medieval Agia Paraskevi chapel before returning to Droushia.

Meals: Breakfast

Another circular walk from Droushia heads to the Laona plateau to explore more picturesque stone-built villages and the possibility of visiting a local winery. Today enjoy the views and the combination of beautiful natural and cultural heritage of the area.

Meals: Breakfast

Begin today with a descent from the Laona plateau to the Lara coast with a stretch of the walk along the Avakas Gorge. Pass by the beaches of South Lara and Toxeftra. The walk ends at Agios Georgios tis Pegeias with its medieval church, ruins of an earlier church, a small fishing shelter and a restaurant. There is a return transfer to the hotel at the end of the walk.

Meals: Breakfast

Enjoy fabulous panoramic coastal views today. Start off with views of the Lara coast then head north for spectacular views of the north coast, the whole of Chrysochous Bay from Cape Arnaoutis, the northwest tip of the island, up to Pomos in the northeast. Today’s route includes stretches of the Smigies, Adonis and Aphrodite Trails with stunning views from Moutti tis Sotiras peak. The western descent along the Aphrodite Trail is considered by many as one of the best on the island. For those doing the shorter walks, there is a transfer to Neo Chorio this morning. Stay at the Aphrodite Beach Hotel on a Bed & Breakfast basis for 3 nights.

Meals: Breakfast

Today’s circular walk gives you more views of Cyprus’s north coast as you walk along the eastern part of the Adonis Trail. The route passes most of the north coast’s beaches including Fontana Amoroza, the Blue Lagoon, the Amphitheatre, Manolis Beach and Koufotrypis Beach. Also walk the rugged coastline near the Baths of Aphrodite cave.

Meals: Breakfast

Enjoy a day of rest at the hotel, along the nearby beach or head back to one of the beaches you walked to yesterday (like the Blue Lagoon).

Additional information

On day 4, descend from the Laona plateau toward the sea, tracing part of the route through the sculpted walls of Avakas Gorge. Sunlight filters onto the streambed, where oleander and juniper cling to the limestone, and swallows flicker overhead.

Emerging on the coast, follow sands and headlands past Lara and Toxeftra beaches—noted turtle nesting grounds—to Agios Georgios tis Pegeias with its medieval church and basilica remains. Pause for photos and reflection by the little fishing shelter before your included return transfer brings you back to the hotel.

On day 5, link sections of the Smigies, Adonis and Aphrodite Trails to crest Moutti tis Sotiras, the Akamas lookout with sweeping panoramic views of Chrysochous Bay and Cape Arnaoutis. The ridge smells of pine and wild sage, and the sea seems to wrap the peninsula on three sides.

Descend the western stretch of the Aphrodite Trail—often called one of Cyprus’s finest—ending at the famed Baths of Aphrodite, linked to the legend of the Goddess of Love. Shorter walkers can use the included morning transfer to Neo Chorio before everyone settles on the coast for the night.

On day 6, follow the eastern Adonis Trail along a string of coves—Blue Lagoon, Fontana Amorosa, the natural Amphitheatre, and quiet stretches like Manolis and Koufotrypis. The water here is famously clear, with bands of aquamarine over pale sand and limestone shelves.

Walk the rugged coastline near the Baths of Aphrodite, where juniper scrub clings to wind-shaped cliffs and the light seems to sharpen toward midday. Time and conditions permitting, you can pause for photos and reflection or a quick paddle before returning to your seafront base.

On day 7, enjoy a free day by the sea. Stay close to the hotel, unwind on the beach, or return on foot to the Blue Lagoon for another look at its shimmering water and honey-colored rock ledges. The coastal paths here invite an unhurried pace.

Alternatively, wander to Latchi’s waterfront and soak in the seaside atmosphere among fishing boats and café terraces. As the light softens over Chrysochous Bay, pause for photos and reflection and savour the easy rhythm of the peninsula before your final night.

On day 3, take time out from the trails to visit a local winery on the Laona plateau. Meet the winemaking team, walk through the cellar, and sample regional wines such as crisp Xynisteri and structured Maratheftiko, shaped by altitude, limestone soils, and sea breezes.

Hear how Cypriot viticulture evolved from amphorae and medieval trade routes to today’s boutique estates, and notice how the vine-clad hills and stone villages colour every glass. This experience is at additional cost and bookable on tour, subject to opening hours and availability.

On day 7, swap hiking boots for the water and join a boat cruise from Latchi to the Blue Lagoon and around Cape Arnaoutis. Glide over glass-clear shallows, with time to pause for photos and reflection or a refreshing swim in turquoise bays.

Crew share local snippets about the Akamas coastline, pointing out sea caves and pale limestone ledges that you’ve seen from the trails. This experience is at additional cost and bookable on tour; operation is weather-dependent.

On day 2, set out on a self-guided circular walk through Kritou Terra and Kato Arodes, passing orchards and hillside vineyards scented with thyme and citrus. Follow a shady path to the Kremiotis Waterfall, where spring water threads through limestone and ferns cling to the damp rock.

Continue to the medieval Agia Paraskevi chapel, a small stone sanctuary that hints at centuries of village life and devotion. Along the way, pause for photos and reflection at viewpoints over the Laona plateau before returning to Droushia for a leisurely evening.

On day 3, wander high paths across the Laona Plateau, linking handsome, stone-built hamlets with terraced fields and carob trees. The air is clear up here, and long views open toward the Troodos foothills while you explore rural lanes and dry-stone farmsteads.

This area has long nurtured vines such as Xynisteri and Maratheftiko, and you may encounter small cellar doors as you pass. Take time to notice corten-red soils, age-polished threshing circles, and wayside chapels that speak to the island’s deep viticultural heritage, before looping back to Droushia.

On day 1, arrive in the hilltop village of Droushia and pick up your route notes and GPX files for the week’s hikes. Our local partner ensures you’re set for the trails with an overview of daily options, safety pointers, and waymarking, so you can walk confidently at your own pace.

If time allows, stroll the stone lanes to feel the cool breezes of the Laona plateau and look out across fields and citrus groves toward the Akamas. Settle in, enjoy a free evening, and rest up for the coastal and mountain routes that begin tomorrow.
