Uluru & Kata Tjuta Experience Standard route map

Arrive at Ayers Rock Airport before 4:00pm and take the complimentary transfer to your hotel. This afternoon, an AAT Kings Guide transfers you to an exclusive barbecue site in Uluru National Park, among red sand dunes and desert oak trees. Enjoy Australian meats and salads with wine, beer or orange juice, followed by tea, coffee and dessert. Weather permitting, your guide points out southern-sky constellations and shares Aboriginal stories about the stars before you return to Ayers Rock Resort. Advise any special dietary requests before 2pm on the day you join the tour.

Travel early to Talinguru Nyakunytjaku, the Uluru Sunrise Viewing Area, for sunrise with tea or coffee. Continue toward Kata Tjuta, stopping for views of its southern side from a dune viewing platform. In the afternoon, visit the Uluru-Kata Tjuta Cultural Centre. Travel around Uluru’s base with Driver Guide commentary on its sacred sites, features, native flora and fauna, and Anangu culture. Continue to the Kuniya Walk and Mutitjulu Waterhole, then watch Uluru change colour at sunset with sparkling wine.

Before dawn, walk through Bruce Munro’s Field of Light installation of 50,000 illuminated glass spheres. At the dune top, have tea, coffee or hot chocolate while watching sunrise behind Uluru, with Kata Tjuta behind you. Transfer to Ayers Rock Airport for an onward flight departing after 9:30am.

  • Leisurely

Experience a barbecue dinner beneath the desert sky at an exclusive site among red dunes and desert oaks in Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park. Enjoy Australian meats, salads and drinks in a setting away from the resort lights.

Listen as your guide points out southern constellations and shares Aboriginal stories associated with the stars. On clear nights, the dark desert setting offers a particularly vivid view of the sky.

Take in panoramic views of the 36 domes of Kata Tjuta from a dune viewing platform, then join a guided walk through Walpa Gorge. The 1.3-kilometre trail follows a natural creek bed between two of the tallest domes.

See the textured conglomerate rock up close and notice how the sheltered gorge contrasts with the open desert. The trail has uneven surfaces and requires a moderate level of fitness; your guide provides context for this distinctive landscape.

Visit the Uluru-Kata Tjuta Cultural Centre to learn about the region through information on Anangu culture and the national park’s living landscape. Explore displays that introduce the Traditional Owners’ connection to Country.

The centre adds cultural context to the formations and places you see across the park, helping explain why Uluru and Kata Tjuta are significant to Anangu. It offers a chance to engage with the region beyond its scenery.

Explore Uluru’s base with commentary from your Driver Guide on its natural features, sacred sites and desert flora and fauna. Join the Kuniya Walk to Mutitjulu Waterhole, a sheltered place at the foot of the rock.

Hear the Kuniya and Liru stories associated with this area and learn more about Anangu connections to the landscape. The short guided walk offers a closer view of Uluru’s rock surfaces and water-shaped features than distant lookouts provide.

Watch Uluru change colour at sunset from a viewing area while enjoying a glass of sparkling wine. As the light lowers, its sandstone surface shifts through warm reds and deeper tones against the surrounding desert.

This is an opportunity to pause and observe how strongly light shapes the appearance of the landmark. With a drink in hand and an open view of the horizon, the experience centres on the changing colours of Uluru.

Walk among Bruce Munro’s Field of Light before dawn, when 50,000 handcrafted frosted-glass spheres glow across the desert in ochre, violet, blue and white. The illuminated installation creates a striking contrast with the dark landscape.

From a dune-top viewpoint, enjoy tea, coffee or hot chocolate as sunrise reveals Uluru and Kata Tjuta in the distance. This experience pairs a contemporary artwork with a changing view of its desert setting.
