Arrive at Ayers Rock Airport before 4:00 pm and take the complimentary transfer to your hotel. In the afternoon, an AAT Kings Guide transfers you to a barbecue site among red sand dunes and desert oak trees in Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park. Enjoy a barbecue dinner with salads and a drink, followed by dessert, tea or coffee. Before dawn, walk through Bruce Munro’s Field of Light installation. At the dune top, enjoy tea, coffee or hot chocolate while watching the sunrise over Uluru, with Kata Tjuta behind you. Transfer to Ayers Rock Airport for an onward flight departing after 9:30 am.

Watch Uluru change colour at sunset from a viewing area, with a glass of sparkling wine in hand. As the sun lowers, shifting light draws out warm reds and deeper shadows across the sandstone surface.

This unhurried viewing experience lets you appreciate the scale of Uluru against the surrounding desert. Its appearance changes with the light and weather, so the pleasure lies in observing the landscape rather than expecting a single fixed view.

  • Leisurely

Enjoy an outback barbecue dinner beneath the stars at a private site among red sand dunes and desert oaks in Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park. Favourites from the grill, salads, dessert and included drinks make this a distinctly Central Australian evening.

Far from the resort lights, your guide points out visible southern-sky constellations and shares Aboriginal stories connected to the stars. Stargazing depends on the weather, but the quiet desert setting is part of the experience.

Watch sunrise over Uluru from Talinguru Nyakunytjaku, a dedicated viewing area in Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park. With a warming tea or coffee in hand, see the first light reach the desert and gradually reveal the rock’s contours.

The viewing area offers space to take in Uluru within its wider landscape. Changing light brings out different tones in the sandstone, making the early start a chance to observe the setting as well as photograph it.

Take in panoramic views of Kata Tjuta’s 36 domes from a dune viewing platform, then join a guided walk through Walpa Gorge. The 1.3-kilometre trail follows a natural creek bed between two of the formation’s tallest domes.

See the rounded conglomerate rock up close as the gorge narrows around you. The trail has uneven surfaces and requires a moderate level of fitness; its scale and stillness offer a striking contrast to the open desert views.

Visit the Uluru-Kata Tjuta Cultural Centre to learn about the national park and its significance to the A?angu, its traditional owners. Exhibits introduce the cultural knowledge and enduring connection to Country that shape how this landscape is understood and cared for.

Set within the park, the centre gives context to the places you explore. It offers an opportunity to consider Uluru and Kata Tjuta not simply as geological landmarks, but as culturally significant living places.

Explore Uluru’s base with Driver Guide commentary on its sacred sites, native plants, wildlife and the culture of the A?angu traditional owners. At the Kuniya Walk, take a short guided walk to Mutitjulu Waterhole, a place where water gathers against the rock.

Your guide shares the Kuniya and Liru stories associated with this area. Seeing its rock art and sheltered setting helps bring Uluru’s cultural significance into focus while respecting the site’s importance to A?angu.

Wander through Bruce Munro’s Field of Light before dawn, among 50,000 handcrafted frosted-glass spheres glowing in ochre, violet, blue and white. The illuminated installation spreads across the desert near Uluru, creating a quiet, immersive walk in the darkness.

From a dune-top viewpoint, enjoy tea, coffee or hot chocolate as daylight reaches Uluru and Kata Tjuta. The contrast between the artwork’s small points of colour and the vast landscape gives this experience its distinctive atmosphere.
