Aboriginal Coastal Fishing Traditions
Explore ancestral fishing grounds with a Kubirri Warra clan member, walking across coastal beach, mudflats and mangroves. Learn how local plants are used as bush foods and medicines, and try throwing a traditional fishing spear.
This hosted experience offers a close view of the knowledge used to live with the changing tides and coastal environment. Hearing it shared on Country gives the landscape a meaning beyond its scenery.
Mossman Gorge Rainforest Walk & Bush-Flavour Lunch
Walk the trails and elevated boardwalks of Mossman Gorge with a driver guide sharing insights into the rainforest. Look up into the dense canopy and take in the waterways of this part of the World Heritage-listed Wet Tropics.
Enjoy an included lunch featuring bush flavours at the Mayi Café in the Mossman Gorge Cultural Centre, overlooking the rainforest’s edge. The combination of guided exploration and regional ingredients connects the landscape with the traditions rooted in it.
Janbal Gallery Aboriginal Art Workshop
Visit Janbal Gallery for a hands-on workshop with Aboriginal artist Brian ‘Binna’ Swindley. Learn how stories of animals, language and the environment find expression in his art, and follow his guidance to paint a small canvas of your own.
The experience centres on learning directly from the artist rather than simply viewing finished work. Take home your painting alongside a deeper appreciation of the stories and techniques Binna shares.
Agincourt Reef Outer Great Barrier Reef Cruise
Cruise to Agincourt Reef, where ribbon reefs run near the outer edge of the Great Barrier Reef. Use the provided equipment to snorkel among coral gardens, or stay dry and view the underwater world from a semi-submersible vessel. Diving is also described as an option; confirm arrangements and any charges with the operator.
Clear waters near the continental shelf offer a window onto coral formations and marine life. Lunch and morning and afternoon tea are included aboard the cruise.
