Casablanca Welcome Dinner
Meet your Travel Director and fellow travellers over a hosted dinner in Casablanca. Share a meal and get to know the people with whom you will explore Morocco’s imperial cities, Atlantic coast and desert landscapes.
This convivial gathering offers a welcoming introduction to the journey. It is an organised evening with the group, rather than simply a meal taken at your hotel.
Hassan II Mosque & Casablanca Corniche
View the Hassan II Mosque on Casablanca’s Atlantic shoreline and travel along the city’s Corniche. The mosque’s immense minaret rises above the water, making it one of Morocco’s most recognisable contemporary landmarks.
Completed in 1993, the building showcases hand-carved stone, timber and intricate zellij tilework. This experience includes an exterior view; entry inside the mosque is not specified as part of the guided visit.
Rabat Royal Palace, Mohammed V Mausoleum & Hassan Tower
See Rabat’s Royal Palace and visit the Mausoleum of Mohammed V, where the monarch and his two sons are entombed. Admire the mausoleum’s richly worked details and the ceremonial setting of Morocco’s capital.
Nearby, view Hassan Tower, the surviving minaret of an ambitious 12th-century mosque that was never completed. Together, these monuments reveal distinct chapters of the country’s royal and spiritual history.
Bab el-Mansour Gate in Meknès
Admire Bab el-Mansour at Place El-Hedim, beside the medina of Meknès. Its monumental proportions and decorative tilework mark an imposing entrance to the imperial city, even while the gate is under restoration.
Built during the reign of Sultan Moulay Ismail’s successor, the gate reflects the scale of Meknès’s royal ambitions. This is a chance to see one of the city’s defining landmarks from the square outside.
Fes Palace Dinner & Folkloric Entertainment
Enjoy a traditional Moroccan dinner in an ancient palace near the Fes medina. An array of local dishes is accompanied by live music and folkloric entertainment, giving the evening the feel of a hosted celebration.
The palace setting offers a distinctive way to encounter Fes’s hospitality and performance traditions. Ornate surroundings, shared food and the rhythms of the musicians make this more than a routine restaurant meal.
American Fondouk Animal-Welfare Visit
Visit the American Fondouk, a non-profit veterinary hospital in Fes, and speak with the people caring for working animals. Founded in 1927, the organisation provides treatment for animals on which many local families depend.
Hear about the practical importance of animal welfare in a city where donkeys and mules still help move goods through narrow medina streets. This MAKE TRAVEL MATTER® Experience connects a working institution with the community it serves.
Fes Medina, Medersa El Attarine & Carpet Cooperative
Explore the Fes medina with a Local Expert, following its narrow lanes past courtyards, workshops and busy souks. Visit a carpet cooperative to see Moroccan handiwork, and step into Medersa El Attarine, a 14th-century religious school at the heart of the old city.
Pass the historic university precinct as vendors display leather goods, food and lamps. The walk brings the medina’s scholarly heritage and living craft traditions into focus.
Atlas Landscapes & Ziz Gorges
Take in Morocco’s changing mountain scenery around alpine Ifrane and the cedar forests near Azrou, where Barbary macaques live. Farther south, the route passes through the Ziz Gorges and palm-fringed settlements toward the desert.
This scenic exploration reveals how quickly Morocco’s landscapes shift from cool uplands to rocky valleys and oasis country. Look out for the contrast between forested slopes, carved gorge walls and green date palms.
Erfoud Desert Stargazing — Insight Choice
Choose an evening of stargazing near Erfoud, where the desert’s dark skies offer a clear view of the stars. Settle in for an astronomy experience away from the brighter lights of Morocco’s cities.
Learn how Amazigh, or Berber, nomads used celestial patterns to help navigate Saharan trade routes. This is one of two included Insight Choice activities in Erfoud; travellers select it instead of the traditional hammam experience.
Traditional Moroccan Hammam — Insight Choice
Choose a traditional hammam ritual in Erfoud and unwind in its warm, steam-filled chambers. Experience an invigorating scrub using Beldi black soap, a Moroccan bathing staple made with olives.
The hammam is a longstanding part of Moroccan social and cleansing traditions, valued as much for its restorative routine as for the feeling of renewal. This is one of two included Insight Choice activities in Erfoud; travellers select it instead of desert stargazing.
Rissani Heritage Sites & Fossil Quarries
Discover the desert town of Rissani and see the Tomb of Moulay Ali Cherif, an ancestral figure of Morocco’s Alaouite dynasty. Visit Ksar Oulad Abdelhalim and the nearby quarries where marine fossils are found.
The fossils, dating back hundreds of millions of years, speak to a time when this now-arid region lay beneath ancient seas. The town’s historic sites offer another perspective on the settlements that grew at the edge of the Sahara.
Rissani Madfouna Lunch
Taste madfouna in Rissani, a filled bread often nicknamed ‘Berber pizza’. Its enclosed crust holds a savoury mixture of seasonal ingredients and spices, making it a distinctive regional lunch rather than a standard stop for food.
Traditionally associated with desert communities, madfouna may be baked in hot sand or prepared in an oven. Sampling it close to the Sahara gives the dish a sense of place and offers an introduction to local food traditions.
Todra Gorge Exploration
Explore Todra Gorge near Tinghir, where sheer orange limestone walls rise above a narrow passage carved by the Todra River. Take in the scale of the cliffs and the striking contrast between the rock and the nearby oasis landscape.
The gorge is one of the most dramatic natural sights on this route through southern Morocco. Its steep-sided setting shows the forces that have shaped the region’s mountains and valleys over geological time.
Tinghir Oasis Farm & Farm-to-Table Lunch
Visit a traditional farm in the Tinghir oasis to learn how local produce is cultivated using established methods. Enjoy a farm-to-table lunch at Restaurant Yasmine, featuring Moroccan dishes such as chicken tagine, vegetables and fragrant soup.
The experience connects the food on the table with the cultivated green spaces that sustain communities in this dry region. It is an opportunity to appreciate both local hospitality and the oasis’s careful use of land and water.
Dades Valley Views & Nomad Home Visit
Take in the Dades Valley, where mudbrick houses stand among pockets of figs, olives and date palms beneath rugged slopes. Visit a traditional nomad home to share Berber tea and meet local people.
The valley’s oases and castellated buildings reflect ways of living shaped by a demanding landscape. Conversation over tea adds a personal dimension to the scenery, offering a glimpse of hospitality beyond the region’s celebrated kasbahs.
Ouarzazate City Orientation
Explore Ouarzazate on a city orientation and see the red-earth streets of this southern Moroccan town. Discover why its dramatic surroundings have made it a filming location for international productions.
Known as Morocco’s film capital, Ouarzazate sits amid the kasbah country and arid landscapes seen in films including Lawrence of Arabia. The orientation offers a closer look at the town itself, not just the desert scenery that has brought cameras to the region.
Ksar of Aït Benhaddou
Marvel at and photograph Aït Benhaddou, a fortified earthen settlement rising above the surrounding valley. See its closely grouped buildings and defensive walls, an architectural silhouette shaped by centuries of life along historic trading routes.
This UNESCO World Heritage Site is a notable example of southern Moroccan construction. Its towers, earth-toned walls and hillside setting make it a compelling place to consider the region’s kasbah heritage. The itinerary specifies viewing and photography, rather than entry into individual buildings.
Dar El Bacha & Marrakesh Medina Walking Tour
Visit Dar El Bacha and explore Marrakesh with a Local Expert. Walk through the medina’s winding streets, see the Koutoubia Mosque’s minaret above the rooftops, and encounter the performers and traders of Jemaa el-Fnaa Square.
Dar El Bacha recalls the city’s palace heritage, while the medina remains a centre of everyday commerce. In the square, storytellers, musicians and food stalls create a public gathering place with a character all its own.
Essaouira Medina & Fishing Port Orientation
Discover Essaouira with your Travel Director on an orientation of this Atlantic port town. Explore its medina streets and busy fishing harbour, where boats and seafood sellers speak to the city’s continuing maritime life.
Essaouira’s coastal setting gives it a different rhythm from Morocco’s inland imperial cities. The walk introduces its relaxed atmosphere, spice-scented lanes and working waterfront. Any seafood or wine you choose to sample at a restaurant is not described as an included meal.
Farewell Dinner at Rick’s Café
Dine at Rick’s Café in Casablanca with your Travel Director, enjoying a four-course dinner with drinks in a setting inspired by the 1942 film Casablanca. Its piano-bar atmosphere evokes the movie without claiming to be an original filming location.
Opened decades after the film was made, the café brings a piece of cinema lore into modern Casablanca. The hosted meal offers a distinctive setting in which to share stories from the journey.
Sahara Sunset by Four-Wheel Drive
Travel by four-wheel-drive vehicle into the desert near Erfoud to watch the Sahara sunset. See the changing light bring out the colours and contours of the arid landscape.
This excursion offers a different perspective from the oasis towns and kasbahs visited elsewhere on the tour, with time to appreciate the desert in the evening light. It is an optional experience at additional cost, bookable on tour.
Jemaa el-Fnaa Dinner & Belly-Dance Performance
Dine beside Jemaa el-Fnaa Square in Marrakesh and sample classic Moroccan dishes while taking in the evening atmosphere. A belly-dance performance adds music and movement to the restaurant experience.
The square is one of the medina’s great gathering places, known for its storytellers, performers and food stalls. This hosted evening offers a restaurant setting from which to absorb that energy. It is an optional experience at additional cost, bookable on tour.
