Darwin Waterfront Welcome Dinner
Share dinner with your Travel Director and fellow travellers on Darwin’s waterfront. The gathering offers a relaxed opportunity to meet the group over a meal, with the city’s warm evening air and harbour setting providing a distinctly Top End welcome.
Darwin’s waterfront reflects the city’s close relationship with the sea, from its working-port history to its present-day outdoor dining scene. This hosted dinner is included as part of the tour.
Katherine Outback Experience
Experience Katherine Outback Experience, an award-winning presentation of life on the land in the Northern Territory. Listen to storytelling and music that bring the region’s pastoral traditions, working skills and local characters into focus.
Rather than viewing the outback only from the road, this hosted experience introduces the people and practices behind its cattle-country heritage. Its performances offer an entertaining, personal perspective on the realities and rhythms of remote life.
Lake Argyle Scenic Cruise
Cruise across Lake Argyle and take in the immense scale of this freshwater reservoir in the East Kimberley. Look out across open water and distant ranges, with opportunities to spot birdlife against the lake’s broad horizons.
Formed by the Ord River Dam, Lake Argyle is central to the story of the region’s irrigation scheme. Being on the water reveals the striking contrast between an engineered lake of vast proportions and the rugged country surrounding it.
Ord River Cruise
Get on the water for an Ord River cruise in the Kununurra region. Experience the river landscape from a different vantage point, with its waters and surrounding outback scenery offering a close-up view of the East Kimberley.
The Ord River has played a defining role in the region’s modern history through the irrigation scheme and the creation of Lake Argyle. Cruising its waters adds perspective to the scale and significance of that transformation.
Hoochery Distillery Visit
Visit Hoochery Distillery near Kununurra and meet the characters behind its locally made spirits. Learn how its rum is produced using Australian sugarcane, rainwater and yeast, and discover the craft behind its award-winning rums and whiskies.
The distillery offers a different view of the East Kimberley: one shaped by local ingredients and hands-on enterprise. Seeing how the spirits are made connects the region’s agricultural setting with a distinctly local craft tradition.
Purnululu National Park & Bungle Bungle Range
Explore Purnululu National Park on an optional excursion by air or 4WD to see the Bungle Bungle Range. Its remarkable banded sandstone domes rise from the East Kimberley landscape, their rounded forms and stripes shaped by geological processes over millions of years.
The choice of flight or ground journey offers different ways to appreciate this remote landscape, subject to the options available on tour. This experience is at additional cost and bookable on tour.
Darwin City Highlights, Botanical Gardens & East Point
Explore Darwin’s tropical capital with your Travel Director, taking in its distinctive architecture and the events that shaped the city. Wander through its botanical gardens, where shaded paths offer a close look at plants suited to the Top End’s climate.
At East Point Reserve, enjoy coastal views and a sense of Darwin’s position beside the Timor Sea. The city’s wartime history and tropical setting make this an introduction to the landscapes and stories of northern Australia.
Adelaide River War Cemetery
Visit Adelaide River War Cemetery to reflect on the lives lost during the Second World War. Walk among the graves and memorials in this quiet Top End setting, where the personal cost of conflict feels close and tangible.
The cemetery is closely connected to the wartime history of northern Australia, including the period when Japanese air raids struck Darwin and other targets. It offers a meaningful perspective on the region beyond its landscapes.
Nitmiluk (Katherine) Gorge Cruise
Cruise through Nitmiluk (Katherine) Gorge in Nitmiluk National Park, watching towering sandstone walls rise above the water and change colour in the light. From the boat, appreciate the scale of the gorge system and its ancient rock formations.
This MAKE TRAVEL MATTER® Experience brings attention to the Jawoyn people, the Traditional Owners of Nitmiluk. Their enduring connection to the land adds cultural depth to one of the Northern Territory’s most striking waterways.
Mirima National Park Walk
Walk through Mirima National Park with your Travel Director near Kununurra and learn how its sandstone landscape was formed. Take in the weathered formations that have earned the park its nickname, the “mini Bungle Bungles.”
Mirima offers an accessible close-up of the East Kimberley’s distinctive rock country. Its layered stone and sculpted shapes reward a slower look, while your Travel Director’s insights help explain the geological forces behind the scenery.
