Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo at Edinburgh Castle
Experience the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo in its open-air arena on the Esplanade beneath Edinburgh Castle. Take your seat for precision drill teams, Highland dancers and the skirl of the massed pipes and drums, with military bands from across the globe. This year’s Stories theme weaves myths and legends through light and music.
Feel the hush for the Lone Piper on the ramparts, as projection art floods the castle walls and fireworks crown the finale—a stirring tribute to Scotland’s martial tradition and international camaraderie.
Gretna Green Old Blacksmiths Shop & Famous Anvil
Visit Gretna Green, the famed border village of eloping lovers. Explore the Old Blacksmiths Shop and see the Famous Anvil, where ‘blacksmith priests’ once blessed vows. Hear tales of runaway couples, browse quaint courtyards, and pause for photographs in this romantic, storied setting.
After the 1754 Marriage Act in England and Wales, couples crossed into Scotland to wed without parental consent. Exhibits and memorabilia bring those hurried ceremonies to life, revealing how a hammer’s ring became a symbol of lifelong commitment.
