  • Phuket: Free Time Add-Ons are special activities Contiki organizes in addition to the trip. They aren’t mandatory (but we do highly recommend them!) and can be done during your free time. Payment for Free Time Add-Ons can only be made in cash, using the local currency – Thai Baht. You can check out the prices on the trip page of the website. Payment will generally be collected on night one after kickstart. Please note: Contiki FTAs may vary due to seasonal conditions & often require minimum guest participation to operate. FTA prices are preferential & are subject to change without notice.
  • Phuket: We’ll aim for you to arrive back in Phuket by early afternoon on the final day. Just one catch – Thai traffic is notoriously slow, so this is dependent on traffic conditions. So, we recommend that you book flights only after 14:30 on the final day. Booked a flight before that? You’ll have to organize your own transfer back to Phuket. Let your Trip Manager know on Day 1 so they can help you out.
  • Phuket: Yep, you can book private taxis through the reception of Sawaddi Patong Resort or use taxi apps. It’ll cost approx. 850 Baht & will take around 1 hour.
  • Phuket: You can choose to have the van take you to the Start hotel – Sawaddi Patong Resort. Or directly to Phuket airport. Just let your Trip Manager know!
  • Phuket:
Other than all the standard stuff like jeans, trousers, jumpers and t-shirts, here are some things you should consider packing:
    • Rainproof jacket

    • Comfy walking shoes & sandals

    • Swimwear & towels

    • Personal medication & motion sickness tablets

    • Travel adaptors

    • Insect repellent and sunscreen
    • Smart casual clothing for high-end restaurants or night clubs in Phuket

  • Phuket: On our trips, you can bring one bag or suitcase of 73cm x 50cm x 25cm (29” x 20” x 10”), with a max weight of 20kg (44lbs). Please note you’ll be responsible for getting your luggage on and off the public ferries at each island.
  • Phuket: Thailand uses the Baht. (No USD accepted here!). ATMs & Cash Machines are usually readily available in Thailand.
  • Phuket: Thailand has 220V, 50Hz electricity. Wall outlets are usually the round, 2-pin type, although some fit two flat blades. So don’t forget your adapters!
  • Phuket: The locals in Thailand are generally very friendly and are quite used to tourists. But there are some things you should keep in mind while travelling in Thailand:

Revealing clothing worn off the beach is usually considered culturally insensitive. Shorts are generally fine (as long as they aren’t too short).

Smoking is common in Thailand, and most restaurants & bars will have a smoking zone.

Public displays of affection between men & women are considered shocking in some places. On the other hand, it’s perfectly normal for a pair of men or a pair of women to link arms or hold hands.

Try to learn some of the local language – but remember there are often many different dialects to choose from! Your Trip Manager or Local Guide can give you some tips on words you can try.

  • Phuket: You can buy a SIM card or a handset at any mobile phone shop and some convenience stores. ‘Top up’ credit vouchers are available at most phone shops, local post offices or at the airport for around US$10-15. Most areas have 4G coverage, but major cities will have 5G.
  • Phuket: Tipping is quite common in all areas of the service industry in Thailand. So, feel free to leave a tip if you love the service – even your Contiki Team!
  • Phuket: Enjoy and learn about Thai flavours, yum!
  • Phuket: Welcome to the bright lights of Phuket. Grab yourself a beer, as this is the ultimate haven for nightlife.
  • Phi Phi Islands: Kick back with your new Contiki fam at Koh Phi Phi Viewpoint – feeling like you’ve just won the lottery of life.
  • Krabi: Fill your plate with spicy Thai food, grab a Singha beer and admire the famous view with 20 of your new BFFs.

Cruise Phang Nga Bay by speedboat on an optional excursion from Krabi to see its limestone formations and famous James Bond Island. Travelling across the bay brings you close to the sheer rock towers rising from its sheltered waters.

See the island made famous by The Man with the Golden Gun, whose striking offshore pinnacle has become one of the region’s most recognisable sights. The scenery is part of a dramatic coastal landscape shaped over millions of years. This cruise is at additional cost and bookable on tour.

Hike to a Koh Phi Phi viewpoint with your group for a sweeping look across the islands at sunset. From above, the narrow strip of land between Phi Phi Don’s bays comes into focus, framed by limestone hills and the Andaman Sea.

Watch golden-hour light settle over the water as boats return to shore and the island’s lights begin to appear. The elevated perspective reveals the geography behind Phi Phi’s celebrated scenery and makes this a rewarding shared moment on foot.

Visit Phuket Elephant Sanctuary for the chance to spend time around rescued elephants and learn about their care. This optional visit offers a different perspective on Phuket, away from its beaches and busy resort streets.

Elephants have long held a place in Thai history and culture, while sanctuaries draw attention to the welfare of animals formerly used in tourism or labour. The visit is at additional cost and bookable on tour; availability and activities may vary.

Contiki

Meet your fellow travellers over Thai flavours in Phuket as the group gathers for its first evening together. Share a welcome dinner and settle into the island’s lively after-dark atmosphere.

Phuket’s food draws on southern Thai traditions, with fragrant herbs, chilli and seafood shaping many local dishes. Beyond the table, Phuket’s bright lights and nightlife offer a spirited introduction to the Andaman coast and a chance to get to know your travel companions.

Gather for an included Thai dinner with your travel companions in Krabi. Fill your plate with the spicy flavours highlighted in the trip’s included experiences, and raise a Singha beer if you wish while sharing the evening together.

Southern Thai cooking is known for assertive seasoning and fresh coastal ingredients. With Krabi’s distinctive scenery adding to the occasion, this group meal offers time to savour regional flavours and reflect on the islands, beaches and limestone landscapes explored along the Andaman coast.

Explore the waters around Koh Phi Phi on the optional Day on the Bay add-on. This organised outing combines island hopping with time to swim and unwind amid the Andaman Sea’s bright water and steep limestone coastline.

Seen from the water, the islands reveal sheltered bays and cliffs that give Phi Phi its distinctive silhouette. It is a way to spend time beyond the main island while keeping the pace relaxed. This experience is at additional cost and bookable on tour, subject to availability.

Taste your way through Krabi on an optional food tour featuring street-food favourites and local eating spots. Sample a range of regional bites while discovering where people gather to eat beyond the familiar resort menus.

Krabi’s food scene reflects southern Thailand’s fondness for lively spice, aromatic ingredients and fresh produce. Exploring it through local stops gives each flavour a sense of place and offers an engaging evening with the group. The tour is at additional cost and bookable on tour.
