  • Phuket: Free Time Add-Ons are special activities Contiki organizes in addition to the trip. They aren’t mandatory (but we do highly recommend them!) and can be done during your free time. Payment for Free Time Add-Ons can only be made in cash, using the local currency – Thai Baht. You can check out the prices on the trip page of the website. Payment will generally be collected on night one after kickstart. Please note: Contiki FTAs may vary due to seasonal conditions & often require minimum guest participation to operate. FTA prices are preferential & are subject to change without notice.
  • Phuket: We’ll aim for you to arrive back in Phuket by early afternoon on the final day. Just one catch – Thai traffic is notoriously slow, so this is dependent on traffic conditions. So, we recommend that you book flights only after 14:30 on the final day. Booked a flight before that? You’ll have to organize your own transfer back to Phuket. Let your Trip Manager know on Day 1 so they can help you out.
  • Phuket: Yep, you can book private taxis through the reception of Sawaddi Patong Resort or use taxi apps. It’ll cost approx. 850 Baht & will take around 1 hour.
  • Phuket: You can choose to have the van take you to the Start hotel – Sawaddi Patong Resort. Or directly to Phuket airport. Just let your Trip Manager know!
  • Phuket:
Other than all the standard stuff like jeans, trousers, jumpers and t-shirts, here are some things you should consider packing:
    • Rainproof jacket

    • Comfy walking shoes & sandals

    • Swimwear & towels

    • Personal medication & motion sickness tablets

    • Travel adaptors

    • Insect repellent and sunscreen
    • Smart casual clothing for high-end restaurants or night clubs in Phuket

  • Phuket: On our trips, you can bring one bag or suitcase of 73cm x 50cm x 25cm (29” x 20” x 10”), with a max weight of 20kg (44lbs). Please note you’ll be responsible for getting your luggage on and off the public ferries at each island.
  • Phuket: Thailand uses the Baht. (No USD accepted here!). ATMs & Cash Machines are usually readily available in Thailand.
  • Phuket: Thailand has 220V, 50Hz electricity. Wall outlets are usually the round, 2-pin type, although some fit two flat blades. So don’t forget your adapters!
  • Phuket: The locals in Thailand are generally very friendly and are quite used to tourists. But there are some things you should keep in mind while travelling in Thailand:

Revealing clothing worn off the beach is usually considered culturally insensitive. Shorts are generally fine (as long as they aren’t too short).

Smoking is common in Thailand, and most restaurants & bars will have a smoking zone.

Public displays of affection between men & women are considered shocking in some places. On the other hand, it’s perfectly normal for a pair of men or a pair of women to link arms or hold hands.

Try to learn some of the local language – but remember there are often many different dialects to choose from! Your Trip Manager or Local Guide can give you some tips on words you can try.

  • Phuket: You can buy a SIM card or a handset at any mobile phone shop and some convenience stores. ‘Top up’ credit vouchers are available at most phone shops, local post offices or at the airport for around US$10-15. Most areas have 4G coverage, but major cities will have 5G.
  • Phuket: Tipping is quite common in all areas of the service industry in Thailand. So, feel free to leave a tip if you love the service – even your Contiki Team!

Contiki

Meet your fellow travellers in Phuket and get acquainted over Thai food. The welcome gathering offers a first taste of the flavours that shape the journey, from fragrant herbs to the balance of sweet, sour, salty and spicy.

Experience the bright lights of Patong, Phuket’s lively beachside hub, as the group settles into island life. Bangla Road’s neon-lit nightlife is close at hand for anyone who wants to keep the evening going.

Hike to a Koh Phi Phi viewpoint with your travel group and take in sweeping views across the island at sunset. From above, the narrow strip of land between Phi Phi Don’s bays sits amid the limestone cliffs and Andaman Sea.

The climb rewards you with a different perspective on an island best known for its beaches: long-tail boats below, forested slopes nearby and warm light spreading across the water. It’s a shared pause to appreciate Phi Phi’s distinctive shape and setting.

Share an included Thai dinner in Krabi with your travel group, filling your plate with spicy local flavours while taking in the view. It’s a relaxed chance to gather around the table and enjoy the company that has become part of the trip.

Southern Thai cooking often draws on fresh herbs, chilli and coastal ingredients, giving the meal a strong sense of place. With a Singha beer if you choose, linger over food and conversation in Krabi’s balmy evening air.

Visit the Phuket Elephant Sanctuary to spend time observing rescued elephants. See these animals in a sanctuary setting and learn more about their care and the importance of more responsible approaches to elephant tourism.

Watching elephants move and interact at their own pace offers a quieter, more considered wildlife experience than a performance or ride. This is an optional experience at additional cost, bookable on tour; ask your Trip Manager about availability and visit details.

Head out on the Day on the Bay for an optional mix of island hopping, swimming and time to unwind around Koh Phi Phi. Explore the island scenery from the water and cool off in the Andaman Sea.

Phi Phi’s limestone shores and clear blue bays give this outing its appeal: a chance to experience more of the archipelago than you can see from the main island. This Free Time Add-On is at additional cost and bookable on tour, subject to conditions and participation.

Taste your way through Krabi on an optional evening food tour, sampling street-food favourites and discovering local spots beyond the usual restaurant strip. It’s a chance to explore the area through its cooking rather than simply choosing a place for dinner.

Look for the layers of flavour in southern Thai food, where chilli, citrus, herbs and seafood feature prominently. This organised experience is at additional cost and bookable on tour; the stops and dishes may vary.

Cruise Phang Nga Bay by speedboat to see its sheer limestone formations rising from sheltered green-blue water. The outing features James Bond Island, the popular name for Khao Phing Kan and nearby Ko Tapu.

The slender rock became internationally recognisable after appearing in the 1974 film The Man with the Golden Gun. Beyond its screen history, the bay’s cliffs and island scenery make the journey rewarding in its own right. This optional excursion is at additional cost and bookable on tour.
