Insight Vacations

  • Top-rated dining, from farm-to-table to local restaurants
  • Coach, 4 x 4 safari vehicle travel, and select flights
  • Premium regional accommodation

Meet your Driver Guide and small group over dinner at Lake Duluti Lodge, a working coffee farm near Arusha. The lodge sits beside Lake Duluti, a volcanic crater lake, beneath the slopes of Mount Meru.

Share a meal among indigenous trees and coffee-growing grounds while getting to know the people travelling with you. The setting offers an introduction to northern Tanzania’s highland landscape and agricultural heritage.

Visit Shanga in Arusha, a social enterprise that trains and employs Tanzanians with disabilities. Walk through its workshops to see artisans weaving, blowing glass, making paper, creating beadwork and shaping metal.

Learn how recycled materials become handcrafted pieces and how the enterprise supports skills and meaningful employment. This community visit offers a closer look at the people and creative work behind locally made goods.

Explore Tarangire National Park on guided game drives through open savannah and riverine woodland. Watch for elephants, antelope and other wildlife around a landscape marked by baobab trees and the Tarangire River.

Morning and late-afternoon outings reveal different activity as temperatures and light change. During an afternoon drive, pause for a sundowner in the bush and take in the colours of the park as the sun lowers.

Enjoy a private breakfast in the Tarangire bush, served in an open-air wilderness setting with your small group. Listen to birds and the sounds of the surrounding landscape while keeping watch for wildlife moving nearby.

Dining outdoors brings the park into focus in a way a camp dining room cannot. The cooler morning air, broad savannah and unhurried pace make this a distinctive safari meal rather than a routine breakfast stop.

Explore Gibb’s Farm near Karatu on a tour of its gardens, coffee fields and working farm. See where fruit, vegetables and herbs are grown on the fertile slopes of the Ngorongoro Highlands.

Enjoy a farm-to-table lunch shaped by produce from the estate. Founded in the 1920s, Gibb’s Farm connects the region’s coffee-growing history with the food served at this long-established highland property.

Spend time with Hadzabe community members near Lake Eyasi and learn about skills connected to hunting, gathering and food preparation. Hear their distinctive click language and, if the opportunity arises, try archery.

The seasonal lake lies within the Great Rift Valley. This hosted encounter centres on the community’s detailed knowledge of the surrounding bush and offers insight into a way of life that remains closely tied to the local landscape.

Meet Datoga community members in the Lake Eyasi region to learn about pastoral life and cattle keeping. Discover the metalworking traditions for which Datoga blacksmiths are known.

Hear how practical skills have been passed through generations and continue to shape daily life in northern Tanzania. The visit provides a perspective on the region’s communities that complements its wildlife and landscapes.

Choose a Swahili lesson with a Local Expert during your time near Karatu. Practise words and phrases from a language spoken widely across Tanzania and much of East Africa.

Learning directly from a local speaker brings an everyday dimension to the journey, from greetings to the rhythms of conversation. This is one of two included Insight Choice experiences; travellers select it instead of the guided Karatu village walk.

Choose to walk through a Karatu village with your Driver Guide and observe everyday life in this farming area near the Ngorongoro Highlands. Learn about its markets, agriculture and mix of communities.

The guided walk offers a local perspective beyond the safari parks, with time to notice how people live and work in the highlands. This is one of two included Insight Choice experiences; travellers select it instead of the Swahili lesson.

Travel on a game drive through Serengeti National Park, scanning its open plains, rocky kopjes and river lines for lion, elephant, giraffe, zebra and antelope. Your Driver Guide helps interpret the wildlife and changing habitats.

The Serengeti’s name derives from a Maasai word associated with wide plains. Its animals move in response to season, water and grazing, so every drive offers a different view of this expansive East African ecosystem.

Gather for dinner in a traditional boma setting at your Serengeti camp. Share food and conversation with your small group around an open fire in an enclosed outdoor space.

The circular boma layout draws on a style of enclosure long used across East Africa. Its fireside atmosphere makes the evening a distinctive dining experience, with the sounds of the bush lending a sense of place beyond the camp table.

Explore UNESCO-listed Stone Town with a Local Expert, moving through market streets and past seafront landmarks that reflect Zanzibar’s Swahili, Arab, Indian and European connections. Visit the local market, the House of Wonders, Sultan’s Palace Museum and Old Arab Fort.

These sites trace centuries of Indian Ocean trade and Omani rule. The House of Wonders was built in 1883 as a ceremonial palace, while the fort dates to 1699.

Visit a herb and spice farm in Zanzibar for a closer look at the plants behind the island’s aromatic reputation. Discover crops such as cloves and cardamom and learn how they grow in the island’s tropical conditions.

Spices have long connected Zanzibar to trading networks across the Indian Ocean. Seeing them at their source adds a tangible dimension to the scents and flavours found in local markets and Swahili cooking.

Cook with local women at Mama’s of Zanzibar in a hands-on lesson focused on Swahili cuisine. Work with local ingredients and traditional methods to help prepare a meal, then sit down with your hosts to share what you have made.

The experience connects Zanzibar’s spice-growing and Indian Ocean heritage with food prepared in a personal setting. Conversation around the table offers a closer view of Zanzibari hospitality than a restaurant meal alone.

Choose to tour the coffee plantation at Lake Duluti Lodge near Arusha and learn about a crop long grown in northern Tanzania. Explore the working farm beside the volcanic crater lake and see the setting in which its coffee is cultivated.

The visit offers a closer look at the agricultural landscape beneath Mount Meru. This is an optional activity, subject to availability, at additional cost and bookable on tour; confirm arrangements with your Driver Guide.

Choose to visit a Maasai village during your time in the Tarangire area and learn about local traditions and community life. The visit provides an opportunity to engage with a cultural landscape closely associated with northern Tanzania’s pastoral communities.

Maasai livelihoods have long centred on livestock, though practices vary between communities. This optional experience is at additional cost and bookable on tour; ask your Driver Guide about availability and the visit’s arrangements.

Choose a sunset show cruise off Zanzibar for a view of the island from the water. Watch the shoreline change colour as daylight fades over the Indian Ocean.

Zanzibar’s seafaring history was shaped by centuries of travel and trade across these waters, lending context to an evening afloat. This is an optional experience at additional cost and bookable on tour; confirm the cruise details and availability with your Local Host.

Sail along Zanzibar’s coast by traditional dhow and snorkel in the warm Indian Ocean. From the water, take in the reef-fringed shoreline and look beneath the surface for marine life.

Dhows have long been associated with travel and trade around the East African coast. Combining a sail with time in the water offers a different perspective on Zanzibar’s coastal heritage. This optional experience is at additional cost and bookable on tour, subject to conditions and availability.
