Additional information

Ascend from Montreux by cogwheel railway to Rochers de Naye (2,042 m), emerging onto rocky alpine lawns where gentians and edelweiss bloom in season. From the ridge, enjoy sweeping views over Lake Geneva and the Alps, with peaks layered to the horizon.

Short trails and lookouts crown the summit for effortless high-mountain drama within easy reach of town. This optional experience is at additional cost and bookable on tour.

Step into medieval Savoyard power at Château de Chillon, a lakeside fortress whose turrets rise from a rocky islet near Montreux. Explore Great Halls and the lake-level dungeon that inspired Byron’s “Prisoner of Chillon”, and trace the castle’s evolution from toll station to princely residence.

Stone courtyards, frescoed chapels, and weapon displays reveal centuries of control over the Rhône gateway. This optional experience is at additional cost and bookable on tour.

Ride the Bettmerhorn cable car to a 2,647 m lookout above the sinuous ice of the Aletsch Glacier, Europe’s longest. From the rocky crest, serrated peaks guard the head of the ice stream, a defining feature of the UNESCO Swiss Alps Jungfrau-Aletsch landscape.

Interpretive panels and short ridge paths illuminate the glacier’s scale, flow, and fragile beauty. This optional experience is at additional cost and bookable on tour.

From the village centre, ascend by Gotschnagrat or Madrisa cable cars to airy ridgelines with waymarked paths, flowered pastures, and terrace huts serving rosti and alpine cheeses. Choose gentle loops or longer traverses amid bell-clinking herds and wide Engadine views.

Discounted lift access is available during your stay in Klosters, making spontaneous alpine trails and terrace-top huts easy to reach. This optional experience is at additional cost and bookable on tour.

Board the Bernina Express for a dramatic climb past St Moritz to Ospizio Bernina (2,253 m), skirting turquoise glacial lakes and snow-clad peaks. The descent threads spiral tunnels and the iconic Brusio Spiral Viaduct before rolling into sun-warmed Tirano on the Italian side.

This pioneering mountain railway—part of a UNESCO World Heritage ensemble—showcases audacious bridges, bold gradients, and scenery that shifts from high Alpine to palm-flecked squares, revealing the cultural meeting point between the Engadine and Lombardy.

Glide across the blue waters as you cruise Lake Maggiore by private launch towards the Borromean Islands. Moor at Isola Bella, where a Baroque silhouette rises directly from the lake and terraces step down to the shore scented with citrus and magnolia.

Join a guided tour of Palazzo Borromeo to admire frescoed salons, marble statues, and gleaming parquet. Outside, elegant gardens layered over ten terraces host formal parterres and strutting white peacocks—an Italianate showcase framed by mountains and sparkling light.

From Zermatt, take the Gornergrat cog railway to the panoramic terrace at 3,089 m for commanding views of the Matterhorn, the Monte Rosa massif, and the crevassed Gorner Glacier. The open-air rack railway climbs through stone-pine woods to a skyline of ice and rock.

At the summit, paths and viewing platforms reveal a full amphitheatre of four-thousand-metre peaks on what is often cited as Europe’s highest open-air rack railway. This optional experience is at additional cost and bookable on tour.

From Montreux, board a Belle Époque paddle-steamer to sweep along Lake Geneva past manor houses, vineyards, and snow-tipped peaks. Polished wood decks, brass railings, and thudding steam-driven paddles evoke the golden age of lake travel.

Savour lunch as the boat skirts the vine-clad Lavaux terraces (UNESCO) and waterfront promenades. This optional experience is at additional cost and bookable on tour.

Settle into your window seat and ride the Glacier Express, where vast panoramic windows frame high meadows, spruce forests, and foaming rivers. The line crests the Oberalp Pass at 2,033 m before dropping to the pale stone canyons of the Upper Rhine Gorge, often called the Swiss Grand Canyon.

Marvel at stone viaducts and helical tunnels—hallmarks of Swiss engineering that tame steep gradients and tight curves. Commentary and quiet comfort pair with ever-changing scenery, turning this world-class rail journey into a moving alpine panorama.

Explore the Valais Alps and visit Zermatt, a charming car-free village of timbered chalets and flower-decked balconies. Stroll along cobbled lanes to river bridges and clear vantage points where the Matterhorn reveals its pyramidal profile above rooftops and larch forests—an ideal moment to pause for photos and reflection.

Absorb the spirit of classic alpinism, where guides, rope-makers, and mountaineers shaped local life after Edward Whymper’s 1865 first ascent. Cafés, bakeries, and tiny chapels sit beneath glaciers and high cableways, creating a mountain atmosphere that is both lived-in and spectacular.
