Stratford & the Charming Cotswolds at Christmastime
From a morning pickup in your local area we travel to our hotel and check-in.
Stratford & the Charming Cotswolds at Christmastime
We journey to the beautiful town of Stratford-upon-Avon, forever associated with William Shakespeare. Fans of The Bard can visit the house in which he was born, and there’s a chance to wander the riverside gardens or discover the town’s theatres including the Swan Theatre, home of the Royal Shakespeare Company.
Stratford & the Charming Cotswolds at Christmastime
We tour some of the Cotswolds’ most famous and unspoilt villages. Be on the lookout for the characteristic honey-coloured cottages and buildings! We begin at Stow-on-the-Wold, a market town on top of Stow Hill. Notable places of interest include medieval St Edward’s Church and Market Square with the limestone-arched Market Hall at the centre.
We then continue to Broadway, in the very heart of the Cotswolds. Often thought of as one of the prettiest villages in the Cotswolds, see the honey-coloured limestone on Broadway High Street, used throughout the Cotswolds, and marvel at the quaint cottages and houses which line the streets next to horse chestnut trees and pristine grass verges.

Cotswolds Villages Tour: Stow-on-the-Wold & Broadway
On day 3, journey across rolling hills built from honeyed oolitic limestone to tour quintessential Cotswolds villages. In Stow-on-the-Wold, linger around the broad Market Square and seek the yew-framed north door of St Edward’s Church, where twisted roots meet ancient stone. Browse antique shops and snug tearooms, and pause for photos and reflection amid mellow cottages that glow softly in the winter light.
Continue to Broadway, famed for its wide, chestnut-lined High Street and handsome inns such as the Lygon Arms. Admire rows of honey-coloured cottages and independent boutiques, with views drifting toward Broadway Tower on the ridge. Time is free to soak up the quietly festive atmosphere, warm your hands around a pot of tea, and savour the intimate scale that defines the Cotswolds.
Shakespeare’s Birthplace Admission (Stratford)
During your Stratford visit on day 2, you can step inside Shakespeare’s Birthplace, the half-timbered family home on Henley Street. Explore creaking Tudor rooms, peek into the glove-maker’s workshop and wander the small walled garden where interpreters share stories of the playwright’s early life. Displays and period detail bring the 16th century close enough to touch.
Cared for by the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust, the house has welcomed admirers from Dickens to modern-day visitors. It’s a vivid window into Stratford’s Elizabethan past and the world that shaped the poet. This visit is at additional cost and bookable on tour, with entry subject to daily availability and timed admissions.
Royal Shakespeare Company Theatre Tour
While in Stratford on day 2, join a guide to go behind the scenes at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre. Step into rehearsal spaces and backstage corridors, hear how productions take shape, and look out from the auditorium toward the stage where Shakespeare’s words find fresh voice. When schedules allow, the tour also highlights the intimate spirit of the adjacent Swan Theatre.
Founded in 1961, the Royal Shakespeare Company continues a centuries-long tradition of performance by the Avon. This optional tour deepens your connection to Stratford’s living theatre culture. It is at additional cost and bookable on tour, subject to RSC schedules and limited group capacities.
Broadway Tower Hilltop Visit
From Broadway on day 3, consider a short detour to ascend Broadway Tower, the 18th-century folly crowning the Cotswold escarpment. From the roof, take in far-reaching views across patchwork counties as the wind brushes the ridge and the light shifts over fields and hedgerows—an inspiring vantage for winter photography.
Designed by James Wyatt for the 6th Earl of Coventry, the tower marries romantic vision with strategic outlook, long a landmark for travellers. Your visit offers both scenic drama and a glimpse of Georgian taste for picturesque landscapes. Entry is at additional cost and bookable on tour, time and weather permitting.
Coach Journey to Coventry & Hotel Check-in
On day 1, depart after a morning pickup and sit back on our comfortable coach as hedgerows, church spires and misty winter fields slide by. The route slips into Warwickshire, where market towns and quiet lanes set the scene for your Christmastime break. Expect comfort stops and a relaxed pace before arriving in Coventry by mid-afternoon.
On arrival, check in at the Royal Court Hotel, Coventry, a Grade II listed country house set in landscaped grounds. Unpack and unwind, perhaps making use of the leisure facilities between outings (pool, sauna and steam room; small charge applies). Settle in, get your bearings around the lounges and bar, and prepare to enjoy a free evening of convivial company at the hotel.
Evening Buffet Dinner & 2-for-1 Bar Social
Each evening, return to the warm glow of the dining room to savour a hearty buffet dinner with a choice of comforting dishes. This relaxed setting is the perfect time to meet fellow travellers, trade tips for the next day, and enjoy the easy rhythm of a country-house hotel at Christmastime.
From 6–9 pm, selected drinks are offered on a 2 for 1 bar basis, adding a friendly, pub-like spirit to your night. Linger in the lounge as conversations unfold and the day’s highlights settle in. Afterwards, enjoy a free evening to retire early or continue the chat—rested and ready for the excursions ahead.
Stratford-upon-Avon Festive Visit & Riverside Walk
On day 2, travel to the birthplace of the Bard for time to stroll the Bancroft Gardens beside the River Avon and explore streets edged with timber-framed houses on Henley Street. Pause by the Royal Shakespeare Theatre and Swan Theatre, then wander the riverside path as shopfronts glow with seasonal decorations and the air carries hints of roasted chestnuts and fresh coffee. Take a moment to pause for photos and reflection along the water.
Stratford’s story threads from medieval guilds to Elizabethan prosperity, crowned by William Shakespeare’s legacy. Seek out Holy Trinity Church, where he is laid to rest, and admire the harmonious Tudor gables that inspired centuries of visitors. You’ll enjoy a free afternoon to browse bookshops, cosy cafés and heritage corners at your own pace before returning to the hotel.
