Explore Berrima’s preserved Georgian streetscape in the Southern Highlands of New South Wales. View the historic buildings that give this small town its distinctive nineteenth-century character, set among the rolling hills south of Sydney.

Established in the 1830s, Berrima retains a sense of its early colonial layout and architecture. Its sandstone buildings offer a tangible contrast to the modern capitals featured on this journey.

Visit Gold Creek Station near Canberra for a behind-the-scenes look at a working sheep farm. Meet farmer Craig Starr and hear firsthand accounts of life on the land before sharing a Be My Guest BBQ lunch hosted by the farm’s owners.

The visit brings Australia’s pastoral traditions into focus through conversation with the people who work here. A meal in the farm setting makes this a personal introduction to rural life, rather than a view from the roadside.

Visit Australian Parliament House in Canberra, where you can explore the grounds or take a self-guided tour. Set on Capital Hill, the building is a defining feature of the capital’s carefully planned landscape.

Opened in 1988, Parliament House is the meeting place of Australia’s federal parliament. Its grass-covered roof and prominent flagmast connect the architecture to the surrounding city, offering a closer look at the place where national decisions are debated.

Take in panoramic views from Mount Ainslie, a lookout above Canberra. From the summit, look across the city’s broad avenues and national landmarks to appreciate the geometry of Australia’s purpose-built capital.

The viewpoint makes architect Walter Burley Griffin’s plan especially clear: Parliament House, Lake Burley Griffin and the Australian War Memorial align along the city’s central axis. It is a scenic way to understand Canberra’s design and its setting among the surrounding hills.

Discover Beechworth’s gold rush streets in Victoria’s High Country, where nineteenth-century buildings recall the fortune-seekers who arrived in the 1850s. Browse the town’s shops, galleries and museums, and hear local stories in a chat with a historic pub’s publican.

Enjoy afternoon tea at the town’s oldest hotel. Together, the preserved streets and local conversation offer a lively perspective on a town shaped by the gold rush and its lasting heritage.

Explore Glenrowan’s Ned Kelly history in the Victorian town where the bushranger’s gang made its final stand in 1880. Hear the stories associated with the siege and see how the town commemorates one of Australia’s most contested historical figures.

Kelly’s story remains visible around Glenrowan, from local displays to prominent statues. The visit offers a chance to consider how accounts of an outlaw became part of Australia’s national folklore.

Join a city tour of Melbourne for an introduction to Victoria’s capital and its urban character. Get your bearings in a city known for its arts institutions, café culture and passion for Australian Rules football.

Melbourne grew rapidly during Victoria’s nineteenth-century gold rush and continues to draw energy from its cultural and sporting life. The tour provides context for the city’s mix of historic streets, contemporary culture and distinctive neighbourhoods.

Join a guided gallery tour at the Koorie Heritage Trust, a First Peoples arts and cultural centre in Melbourne. Explore works and displays that share perspectives on Aboriginal culture, history and continuing creative practice.

This MAKE TRAVEL MATTER® Experience places local First Peoples’ voices at the centre of the visit. The gallery setting offers space to engage with stories and artistic expression that deepen an understanding of the region beyond its familiar city landmarks.

Travel to Phillip Island to watch little penguins return from the sea at dusk. From the viewing area, observe the birds cross the sand and make their way towards their burrows.

Little penguins are the world’s smallest penguin species, and their nightly return is a distinctive wildlife sight on Victoria’s coast. Viewing depends on the birds’ natural behaviour and conditions on the evening. This optional experience is at additional cost and bookable on tour.
