Itinerary
Scarborough & Whitby – Turkey & Tinsel
After joining the coach, we make our way to our hotel and check in.
Scarborough & Whitby – Turkey & Tinsel
We travel to the coastal town of Whitby, famed for its connection to Bram Stoker’s Dracula and for its striking jet jewellery, popularised in Victorian times. Wander around the harbour or the quirky narrow streets before tackling the climb up to the atmospheric ruined abbey perched on the cliffs above the town. Later we enjoy a traditional ‘Christmas’ dinner with all the trimmings back at the hotel.
Scarborough & Whitby – Turkey & Tinsel
Our optional excursion takes us to the historic city of York. Make time for the glorious York Minster with its world-famous stained-glass windows and status as the largest Gothic cathedral in northern Europe. Other highlights include the narrow, cobbled streets of the ‘Shambles’ where the buildings date back to medieval times, the Jorvik Centre which tells the story of York’s Viking heritage, and the ancient walls surrounding the city. The famous Betty’s tea rooms are also well worth a visit.
Scarborough & Whitby – Turkey & Tinsel
For our second half-day excursion we head to the pretty market town of Beverley, famous for its 13th-century Minster. The town is full of historic buildings, cobbled streets and charming courtyards as well as quaint boutiques, cosmopolitan cafés and traditional pubs.

After breakfast, we check out of our hotel and travel home.
York Historic City Excursion & Minster
On day 4, opt for a full-day excursion to York (additional cost, bookable on tour). After arrival, enjoy ample time to step inside York Minster with its soaring nave and medieval glass, walk a stretch of the medieval walls for skyline views, and explore the Shambles—a tangle of timber-framed lanes and overhanging eaves. Museums, boutiques and cosy pubs are within easy reach.
York’s layers run deep, from Roman Eboracum to Viking Jórvík and the mercantile Middle Ages. Visit the JORVIK Viking Centre, browse Stonegate’s shops or pause for afternoon tea at Bettys beneath art-nouveau mirrors. This Optional experience is bookable on tour at additional cost and typically returns you to Scarborough by early evening.
Beverley Minster & Market Town Stroll (Half-Day)
On day 3, we head to the market town of Beverley for a relaxed half-day. Amble its cobbled lanes and squares before you step inside Beverley Minster (time permitting), one of England’s finest Gothic churches. Admire the twin west towers from the green, then stroll past Georgian facades, hidden courtyards and independent boutiques clustered around Saturday Market and Wednesday Market.
Founded near the shrine of St John of Beverley, the Minster dazzles with stone vaulting and carved misericords, a testament to medieval craftsmanship. Seek out the medieval North Bar, the last surviving town gate, and savour the town’s convivial rhythm with time to enjoy a free hour for coffee, cake or a pint before our return.
Festive ‘Turkey & Tinsel’ Dinner, 2-for-1 Bar & Evening Entertainment
Each evening back at the hotel, join a festive ‘Turkey & Tinsel’ dinner where seasonal touches set a cheerful mood. Raise a glass during the 2-for-1 bar (6–9pm) and savour roast turkey with all the trimmings, followed by desserts such as Christmas pudding or mince pies. After-dinner tea and coffee round things off as you unwind with friends old and new.
The celebration nods to cherished British traditions—crackers, convivial chat and perhaps a sing-along—as you enjoy light evening entertainment ranging from music to quizzes. On day 2, the traditional ‘Christmas’ dinner brings the spirit of the season to the coast, with time afterwards to enjoy a free evening in the lounge before a comfortable night’s rest.
Scarborough Seafront Orientation & Free Time
On day 1 after check-in—and during free afternoons—take an easy seafront stroll to get your bearings in Scarborough. From South Bay’s arc of sand, trace the curve of the promenade past the Grand Hotel and Spa, then perhaps ride a cliff lift for classic views across the harbour to the castle headland that divides North and South Bays. The atmosphere is breezy and relaxed.
As one of Britain’s earliest resorts, Scarborough pairs Victorian elegance with a working harbour. Walk the harbour wall to watch fishing boats return, browse arcades along Foreshore Road and soak in the seaside atmosphere—salt on the air, gulls wheeling overhead. Cap your wander with fish and chips, then pause for photos and reflection below the Norman castle ruins.
Whitby Coastal Excursion & Abbey Steps
On day 2, travel up the Yorkshire coast to Whitby, a fishing port of red roofs and sea breezes. Stroll the old town as you wander the harbour and narrow lanes, cross the swing bridge over the River Esk and browse shops famed for Whitby jet jewellery. If you wish, climb the 199 steps to St Mary’s churchyard and the ruined Whitby Abbey on the East Cliff for sweeping views over the pier and North Sea.
Hear tales of Bram Stoker’s Dracula and Captain Cook as you explore, then soak in the bracing North Sea air with time for fish and chips by the quayside. The mood is unhurried, with moments to pause for photos and reflection before we return to Scarborough by late afternoon.
