Scarborough, Whitby & Historic York
Our first excursion takes us to the moorland village of Goathland, where we can admire the striking views of the North York Moors and likely recognise a spot or two from the TV series Heartbeat or the Harry Potter films. Afterwards, we venture to the charming coastal town of Whitby, famed for its connection to Bram Stoker’s Dracula. Wander around the quirky streets and the picturesque harbour before tackling the climb up to the atmospheric ruined abbey perched on the cliffs above the town here.
Full Day
Scarborough, Whitby & Historic York
We enjoy an excursion to York, where the iconic York Minster boasts world-famous stained-glass windows and a status as the largest Gothic cathedral in northern Europe. Other highlights include the narrow, cobbled streets of the ‘Shambles’, where the buildings date back to medieval times, the National Railway Museum, the Jorvik Centre which tells the story of York’s Viking heritage and the ancient walls which surround the city. No trip to York is complete without a visit to the famous Betty’s tea rooms too!
Full Day
Scarborough, Whitby & Historic York
For our optional excursion we head to the pretty market town of Beverley, one of Yorkshire’s best-kept secrets. The town’s rich heritage is reflected in its cobbled streets, charming courtyards and historic buildings, including the 13th-century Minster with its medieval stone carvings and stained glass. We are lucky enough to be visiting on market day – the perfect chance to pick up a bargain with a range of stalls selling local produce, crafts and more!
Half Day
Goathland Village & North York Moors Scenery
Explore the moorland village of Goathland, set amid heather-clad hills and dry-stone walls on the edge of the North York Moors. Stroll the village green and heritage platforms where you can spot filming locations from Heartbeat and the railway setting known as Hogsmeade Station in the Harry Potter films.
Expect sweeping moorland views, traditional stone cottages, and a timeless rural rhythm shaped by sheep farming and the old coaching routes across the uplands. Photo stops and short walks reveal shifting light, curlew calls, and big skies that define this evocative landscape.
Scarborough Evening Entertainment & 2-for-1 Bar
Unwind at the Grand Hotel in Scarborough with light evening entertainment and a convivial atmosphere overlooking South Bay. Settle into the hotel’s spacious lounges to chat with fellow travellers as the night eases in.
Sip and save with the tour’s 2 for 1 bar (6pm–9pm) on selected drinks, and soak in the seaside atmosphere before turning in. The hotel’s Victorian grandeur and harbour views create a fitting coastal backdrop to your stay.
Beverley Market Town & Minster
Visit the pretty market town of Beverley, where Beverley Minster anchors a maze of cobbled streets and courtyards. Browse independent stalls and shops on market day, then admire the Minster’s exterior with its soaring towers and detailed tracery.
Discover echoes of the town’s medieval prosperity in guildhalls and Georgian frontages, and look for medieval stone carvings and stained glass that have inspired visitors for centuries. This optional excursion is at additional cost and is bookable on tour.
Whitby Old Town & Abbey Clifftop
Discover Whitby’s cobbled lanes and working harbour, then climb the 199 steps to the headland for wide North Sea views. On the plateau, the skeletal ruins of Whitby Abbey rise above red-roofed cottages and a bustling quayside.
Soak up the Gothic atmosphere that inspired Bram Stoker’s Dracula, while churchyard and clifftop paths invite quiet reflection along the wind-buffed North Sea cliffs. Independent shops and heritage plaques reveal maritime tales, from whaling to exploration, that shaped this distinctive Yorkshire port.
York City Highlights: Minster, Shambles & Walls
Explore the walled city of York, navigating its medieval heart to admire York Minster, wander the narrow lanes of the Shambles, and pause along the medieval city walls for sweeping views of tiled rooftops and spires.
Learn how this northern capital grew from Roman Eboracum to Viking Jórvík, with time to discover storied sites such as the National Railway Museum or the JORVIK Viking Centre. Expect striking stonework, timber-framed facades, and a lively café culture that keeps history very much part of daily life.
