Additional information

On day 3, after breakfast and checkout, enjoy a free morning to savour Scarborough’s classic seaside setting. From the Grand Hotel, stroll to South Bay to watch fishing boats in the historic harbour, follow the promenade for bracing sea air, or slip into a cosy café for Yorkshire tea and a warm slice of fruitcake. Pause for photos and reflection as gulls wheel over the water and winter light picks out the curve of the bay.

Scarborough blossomed as Britain’s original seaside resort, its Victorian spa heritage and cliffside terraces still shaping the skyline. Look up to the castle-topped headland dividing North and South Bay, browse arcades and shops, and soak in the seaside atmosphere before the homeward journey.

Each evening, settle into the hotel’s lounge or ballroom for light entertainment that brings guests together. Expect a relaxed mix that may include live cabaret, friendly quizzes and toe-tapping tunes ideal for a little social dancing after dinner. It’s a comfortable way to unwind, chat with fellow travellers and relive the day’s highlights.

Scarborough’s grand hotels once hosted holidaymakers for full evenings of diversion; this tradition continues in a gentler Twixmas rhythm. In the glow of period interiors, enjoy a free evening without schedules — simply good company, familiar songs and a warm, convivial mood that suits the season.

Before dinner on both nights, make the most of the hotel’s 2 for 1 bar offer, available 6pm-9pm on selected drinks. Gather in the lounge to clink glasses with travelling companions, sample house beers, wines and selected spirits, and ease into the evening without rushing. It’s a convivial start that pairs nicely with seaside views and festive conversation.

Housed within a landmark Victorian building overlooking the bay, the bar’s high ceilings and vintage details set a relaxed tone. Use this window to meet new friends, plan tomorrow’s exploring, or simply soak in the easy-going Twixmas mood before the entertainment begins.

On day 2, travel by coach to York for an included visit to this compact, walkable city of layers. If you wish, walk a stretch of the ancient city walls and pause for photos and reflection at gatehouses like Micklegate Bar.

Every corner hints at York’s past — from Roman Eboracum to the Viking Jorvik heritage and the prosperity of medieval guilds. Your time is your own to dip into boutiques, tea rooms and museums, with the coach returning to Scarborough in the late afternoon.
