Trafalgar

Explore Finland’s capital with a Local Specialist-led sightseeing tour, taking in its seafront setting and distinctive Nordic architecture. See Helsinki landmarks including the Sibelius Monument, the Olympic Stadium, the Opera House and Finlandia Hall.

Pause for a drink and absorb the atmosphere of this harbour city, where monumental civic buildings sit alongside everyday life by the Baltic Sea. The tour offers an introduction to Helsinki’s cultural identity.

Join a Welcome Reception in Helsinki and meet your fellow travellers at the start of the Arctic adventure. It is a hosted opportunity to settle in, share first impressions and get to know the people travelling with you.

Helsinki provides a fitting backdrop: a Baltic capital shaped by Finnish traditions, maritime trade and clean-lined design. The reception brings the group together before the journey into Lapland’s winter landscapes.

Explore the Siida Sámi Museum near Lake Inari through exhibitions on Sámi history, languages and living traditions. Discover how Europe’s only Indigenous people have maintained their cultural identity in the demanding environment of northern Lapland.

Displays also illuminate the region’s wildlife and seasonal extremes, placing Sámi knowledge in the landscape where it developed. This MAKE TRAVEL MATTER® visit supports the preservation and sharing of Arctic cultural heritage.

Meet your hosts at a family-run reindeer farm near Rovaniemi for a locally hosted lunch and stories of Arctic life. Visit the farm, meet its reindeer and learn how daily work changes between long winters and brief summers.

Hear how Sámi traditions remain connected to reindeer husbandry, and share fika with your hosts. If conditions allow, a traditional reindeer sleigh ride offers a quiet way to experience the snow-covered landscape.

Visit Santa Claus Village in Rovaniemi, the Finnish city known as Santa’s official hometown. Meet its famous resident, cross the Arctic Circle and explore a place devoted to Lapland’s enduring Christmas traditions.

Stop at Santa’s post office to send greetings bearing a Lapland postmark. The village pairs festive rituals with a geographical milestone: the Arctic Circle marks the latitude beyond which summer’s midnight sun and winter’s polar darkness become possible.

Explore Gammelstad Church Town with a Local Specialist, walking among wooden cottages clustered around an early 15th-century stone church. This UNESCO World Heritage site preserves 424 church cottages and the character of a historic northern Swedish settlement.

Learn why people travelling from distant farms needed overnight accommodation when attending church and local gatherings. The tightly grouped buildings offer a tangible glimpse of religious and social life in a sparsely populated region.

Discover Sweden’s island capital on a Local Specialist-led orientation tour. Walk the cobbled streets of Gamla Stan, Stockholm’s Old Town, and visit Stockholm City Hall, the landmark associated with the Nobel Prize banquet.

Take in the city’s waterside setting and sights including the Royal Palace and Riddarholmen Church. Medieval lanes, royal buildings and broad views across the water reveal why Stockholm is often described as a city built on water.

Join an evening Northern Lights hunt from Saariselkä, travelling into Finnish Lapland’s winter darkness in search of the aurora. Watch the northern sky for shifting curtains and arcs of colour above the snowy Arctic landscape.

The display is a natural phenomenon caused by charged particles interacting with Earth’s atmosphere, so sightings depend on weather and solar activity and cannot be guaranteed. This Optional Experience is at additional cost and bookable on tour.

Snowshoe along the Aurora Path near Saariselkä for a closer look at Finnish Lapland’s winter scenery. Snowshoes make it possible to move across snowy ground at a measured pace, with time to notice the shapes of the forest and the stillness of the Arctic setting.

This guided outdoor activity offers a quieter alternative to motorised exploration and a chance to experience the landscape on foot. It is an Optional Experience at additional cost, bookable on tour.

Set out on a snowmobiling excursion across the frozen Ivalo River, experiencing Finnish Lapland’s winter terrain from a different perspective. The ride brings a sense of movement and scale to a landscape shaped by ice, snow and long Arctic winters.

The Ivalo River runs through northern Finland toward Lake Inari, linking the region’s settlements and wilderness. This Optional Experience is at additional cost and bookable on tour; the route and activity depend on suitable conditions.

Explore Kiruna with a Local Specialist to understand how this Arctic town is being reshaped and relocated. Learn why buildings and community spaces are moving east as the neighbouring iron ore mine expands, and pause for a traditional Swedish fika.

Kiruna’s relocation makes urban planning unusually visible: an established town is adapting to the demands of the world’s largest underground iron ore mine. This Optional Experience is at additional cost and bookable on tour.

Experience the energy of Arctic sled dogs on a husky safari through the snow near Kiruna. If conditions do not allow a safari, visit a working kennel instead to meet the dogs and learn about their care and training.

Dog sledding has long been a practical way to travel across northern winter terrain. Whether on the trail or at the kennel, the focus is the bond between handlers and their dogs. This Optional Experience is at additional cost and bookable on tour.

Explore the Icehotel near Kiruna, where rooms and sculptures are fashioned from natural ice and snow. Walk through its chilly interiors to see how artists turn a temporary winter material into detailed spaces and installations.

Created in the village of Jukkasjärvi, the Icehotel reflects the region’s long, cold seasons and its inventive approach to Arctic tourism. Its frozen textures and changing designs make each visit distinctive. This Optional Experience is at additional cost and bookable on tour.

Spend an evening at Aurora Camp beside a frozen river near Kiruna. Enjoy a two-course dinner in the Arctic setting and watch the night sky for the Northern Lights.

The camp combines a hosted meal with time outdoors in Sweden’s far north, where dark winter skies offer opportunities to observe the aurora. As a natural display, it is weather-dependent and cannot be guaranteed. This Optional Experience is at additional cost and bookable on tour.
