  • Cairo: Tipping’s a big deal in Egypt – it’s part of the culture and helps support locals (especially those working in tourism). During your trip, you’ll be expected to tip people like hotel staff, local guides, porters, and restaurant crews.
To keep it simple (and avoid the awkward maths), your Trip Manager will organise a tipping kitty. They’ll let you know the suggested amount upon arrival in Egypt, and collect it in USD or Egyptian Pounds to cover group service tips along the way.
Heads-up: this doesn’t include a tip for your Trip Manager.
  • Rome:  Kick back with your Contiki crew and feast on some yummy Italian cuisine – served at a local restaurant working to train and provide jobs for members of the community with disabilities.

  • Rome: Stroll around the Italian capital, ticking off some sights on your bucket list!

Contiki

Meet your fellow travellers over an Italian welcome dinner at a local Rome restaurant. Sharing a meal offers a relaxed introduction to the city and the people you will travel with.

The restaurant also trains and provides jobs for people with disabilities, giving this evening a purpose beyond the table. It is a chance to enjoy Italian cuisine while supporting a business rooted in its community.

Walk Rome’s cobblestoned streets with your group on an orientation tour that introduces the capital’s historic centre. Take in some of the city’s celebrated sights and join the tradition of tossing a coin at one of its fountains.

Rome’s layers of history are visible at street level, where ancient remains sit among later piazzas and lively neighbourhoods. This guided walk helps you find your bearings while experiencing the city on foot.

Explore the Colosseum and Roman Forum with a Local Guide, moving between the vast amphitheatre and the ruins of ancient Rome’s civic heart. Hear how gladiatorial contests filled the arena and how political and public life unfolded around the Forum.

These landmarks reveal contrasting sides of the Roman Empire: mass spectacle, public ceremony and struggles for power. Your guide helps bring the ruins’ histories into focus, from the Forum’s political upheavals to the Colosseum’s crowds.

Discover Athens with a local guide on a tour of the city’s historic highlights, including entry to the Acropolis. Walk among the ancient monuments crowning the rocky hill and take in views across the Greek capital.

The Acropolis is closely associated with the civic and artistic life of classical Athens; its best-known monument, the Parthenon, was dedicated to Athena. Local insight connects these enduring structures with the mythology and history that shaped the city.

Cruise to Aegina, a Saronic Gulf island reached from Athens, for a day exploring its traditional town and ancient heritage. Enjoy the sea crossing and time on the island to discover streets, waterfront views and historic sites.

Aegina’s long history includes a period as a powerful ancient Greek maritime centre. The combination of island scenery and archaeological heritage offers a different perspective on Greece beyond the monuments of Athens.

Stand before the Pyramids of Giza and the Great Sphinx on the plateau outside Cairo. See the scale of the Great Pyramid firsthand and view the lion-bodied Sphinx against one of the world’s most recognisable ancient landscapes.

Built during Egypt’s Old Kingdom more than 4,500 years ago, the pyramids formed part of royal burial complexes. Their surviving stonework offers a tangible connection to the builders, beliefs and engineering of ancient Egypt.

Explore the Grand Egyptian Museum near the Giza pyramids, a vast museum complex devoted to ancient Egyptian history. Discover objects that illuminate everyday life, royal power and religious belief across thousands of years.

The collection includes artefacts associated with Tutankhamun, placing the famous pharaoh within a much broader archaeological story. For travellers keen to look beyond the pyramids themselves, the museum offers a closer encounter with the craftsmanship and material culture of ancient Egypt.

Make and eat pasta in Rome during an optional hands-on food experience. Work with the dough and enjoy the satisfaction of tasting a dish you have helped prepare, rather than simply ordering it from a menu.

Pasta-making is a practical introduction to an Italian culinary tradition shaped by regional recipes and everyday home cooking. This experience is at additional cost and bookable on tour; ask your Trip Manager for the available details.

Explore Athens’ foodie hotspots on an optional evening tour focused on the city’s eating culture. See where local flavours and sociable dining give the streets a character distinct from the ancient monuments above them.

Greek food draws on ingredients and traditions shared across the Mediterranean, from olive oil and herbs to the pleasure of lingering over a meal. This tour is at additional cost and bookable on tour; check what tastings, if any, are included before booking.

Explore the Grand Egyptian Museum with a local guide for added context on its ancient Egyptian collections. Hear the stories behind selected artefacts and consider how objects from tombs, temples and daily life help reconstruct the past.

The museum’s scale makes expert interpretation particularly valuable for travellers who want a focused visit. This guided option is at additional cost and bookable on tour; confirm the arrangements with your Trip Manager.

Tour historic Cairo on an optional excursion featuring the Salah El Din Citadel and Alabaster Mosque, alongside other sights. Explore a side of Egypt’s capital shaped by centuries of Islamic architecture and urban life.

The hilltop citadel was founded in the 12th century, while the mosque of Muhammad Ali is known for its prominent domes and pale stonework. This guided excursion is at additional cost and bookable on tour.

Cruise the Nile in Cairo on an optional evening outing with a buffet dinner and show. Watch the city’s riverside lights from the water while enjoying a meal and onboard entertainment.

The Nile has long been central to life in Egypt, and seeing Cairo from the river offers a different vantage point from its busy streets. This dinner cruise is at additional cost and bookable on tour; confirm the show and cruise details locally.
