Arrive at Ayers Rock Airport and take the complimentary transfer from the front of the terminal to your hotel; flights should arrive before 1:30 pm. Visit the Uluru-Kata Tjuta Cultural Centre, then travel around the base of Uluru as your Driver Guide explains its sacred sites, features, native flora and fauna, and Anangu culture. Take the Kuniya Walk to Mutitjulu Waterhole and watch the sunset over Uluru with sparkling wine.

Travel from Ayers Rock Resort to Kings Canyon, stopping for breakfast at Kings Creek Station. Learn about the station and Ian and Lynn Conway’s work with Aboriginal children in remote communities. At Kings Canyon, take the steep, rocky rim walk for views of Watarrka National Park and the canyon gorge; if time permits, visit the Garden of Eden waterhole. The rim walk takes approximately three hours and requires good fitness. Alternatively, take a shorter walk along the canyon floor to see native plants and birdlife. After lunch at your own expense, return to Ayers Rock Resort.

You may wish to take an easier, shorter walk to explore the boulder strewn canyon floor with our Driver/Guide.

Visit the Uluru–Kata Tjuta Cultural Centre to learn about A?angu, the Traditional Owners of this landscape, and their continuing connection to Country. Explore displays that introduce the park’s cultural and natural significance.

The centre offers valuable context for the places you will see around Ulu?u and Kata Tju?a. It is an opportunity to approach these landmarks as living cultural places, not simply striking rock formations.

Explore the base of Ulu?u with Driver Guide commentary on its distinctive features, native plants and wildlife. At the Kuniya Walk, follow your guide to Mutitjulu Waterhole, a sheltered place beneath the rock’s towering walls.

Hear about the significance of sites around Ulu?u to A?angu, the Traditional Owners. The contrast between the open desert and the waterhole’s shaded setting reveals another side of this landscape.

Watch sunset over Ulu?u while enjoying a glass of sparkling wine. As the light lowers, observe the rock’s surface shift through shades of ochre and deep red against the desert sky.

This viewing experience gives you time to take in Ulu?u’s scale and changing appearance from a distance. The colours are shaped by the light falling on its iron-rich sandstone, making every sunset subtly different.

Stop at Kings Creek Station in the remote country near Watarrka National Park. Hear the story of Ian and Lynn Conway, who established the station and have supported Aboriginal children in nearby remote communities.

Now a working cattle property with wild-camel operations, the station offers a glimpse of life and enterprise in Central Australia. Breakfast is part of the stop, but the distinctive experience is the chance to learn about the people behind this outback property.

Hike the Kings Canyon Rim Walk for sweeping views across the gorge and Watarrka National Park. The approximately three-hour route begins with a steep, rocky climb and follows the canyon edge to a series of lookouts. If time permits, your guide may also take you to the Garden of Eden waterhole.

The rim walk requires a good level of fitness. An easier guided creek-bed walk offers an alternative among the boulders, native plants and birdlife of the canyon floor.

Take in panoramic views of Kata Tju?a from a dune viewing platform, where the southern side of its 36 domes rises above the desert. Walk into Walpa Gorge along a natural creek bed between two of the tallest domes.

Look closely at the domes’ unusual conglomerate rock, formed from ancient pebbles and boulders bound together over geological time. The gorge walk brings you into the sheltered spaces within this landscape.

Wander through Bruce Munro’s Field of Light before dawn, among 50,000 handcrafted frosted-glass spheres glowing in ochre, violet, blue and white. The installation spreads across the desert beneath the night sky.

From a dune-top viewpoint, enjoy tea, coffee or hot chocolate while sunrise lights Ulu?u in the distance, with Kata Tju?a behind you. The experience pairs a contemporary artwork with the changing colours of the Central Australian landscape.
