Additional information

Explore the cool passage of Walpa Gorge among the towering domes of Kata Tjuta. Follow the trail between sheer rock walls and conglomerate domes to discover hardy desert flora thriving in the sheltered valley.

Learn why “Walpa” means “wind” in Pitjantjatjara and how powerful forces shaped these formations, which are even older than Uluru. The setting’s quiet grandeur invites contemplation as light and shadow play across the rock.

Drift with the dawn on a hot-air balloon over the Red Centre, watching sunrise over the desert gild the vast ochre plains and distant MacDonnell Ranges. The silent flight heightens the chance to spot kangaroos moving below.

Pilot commentary brings context to the country beneath your basket, from riverbeds to dune lines. This is an Optional Experience at additional cost, bookable on tour.

Discover the outback’s communications birthplace as you visit the Alice Springs Overland Telegraph Station, set beside the sands of the Todd River. Step into restored stone buildings that once pulsed with Morse messages linking Adelaide to the world, and walk the grounds to picture life on the frontier.

Hear the stories of the overland line, from cameleers to stationmasters, while viewing original equipment and interpretive displays. The setting frames the transformation of Central Australia from remote outpost to a connected nation.

Taste Country with an Indigenous chef as you discover wild harvest bush tucker. Learn how seeds, berries, and native herbs are sourced and prepared, then sample regional native flavours such as wattleseed, bush tomato, or lemon myrtle. Techniques and traditions come alive through hands-on demonstrations.

Gain insight into Aboriginal foodways shaped by season and place, and how knowledge is passed down through generations. This meaningful encounter blends flavour with culture, supporting community enterprise and deepening respect for the land.

Walk among towering sandstone on the Kings Canyon Rim Walk or take the gentler creek bed trail beneath the walls of Watarrka National Park. Trace a landscape of beehive domes known as the Lost City, then descend to the cool refuge of the Garden of Eden with its permanent waterhole and cycads.

Guides reveal ancient sea-beds turned to rock and the Luritja people’s enduring connection to this place. Panoramas from the rim capture sculpted cliffs, desert oaks, and vast red horizons.

Dine beneath a vault of stars at Kings Canyon Resort with Under a Desert Moon, a curated five-course degustation paired with Australian wines. Candlelit tables, linen, and attentive service elevate the experience as flavours of the outback take centre stage.

Chefs celebrate provenance with seasonal produce while the outback night sky shimmers overhead. The intimate candlelit setting invites slow conversation and a moment to savour the stillness of the desert.

Meet community guides for the Karrke Aboriginal Cultural Experience at the Wanmarra Community, where everyday traditions are shared with clarity and warmth. See demonstrations of bush foods and medicines, seed grinding, and the crafting of tools and adornments.

Explore kinship, language, and the meanings in art symbols while hearing how culture is sustained on Country. This respectful exchange foregrounds cultural knowledge and living heritage in Central Australia.

Walk close to the rock on the Uluru base walk, pausing at rock shelters bearing rock art and the tranquil Mutitjulu Waterhole. Guides share Tjukurpa creation stories that anchor this landscape in Anangu law and tradition.

At the Cultural Centre, exhibitions and locally made art deepen understanding of Anangu culture, protocols, and Country. The experience balances geology and story, encouraging respectful engagement with a sacred place.

Raise a glass as the Uluru sunset transforms the desert, a colour-shifting monolith moving through terracotta, ember, and violet. From a national park designated viewing area, watch contours sharpen and soften in the cooling air.

Guides suggest the best vantage lines while you pause for photos and reflection. The hush of evening settles over spinifex plains, completing a quintessential Red Centre moment.

Stroll the sandy creek bed to Simpsons Gap, a dramatic cleft in the West MacDonnell Ranges where red quartzite cliffs frame a permanent waterhole. The gorge’s cool shade offers a striking contrast to sunlit desert around it.

Interpretations reveal deep time in the rock strata and Arrernte cultural connections to this landscape. Keep an eye out for black-footed rock-wallabies that sometimes move among the boulders near dusk.

Wander softly lit pathways through the Field of Light by Bruce Munro as night gives way to sunrise over the desert. A sea of 50,000 blooms pulses and fades while Uluru’s silhouette emerges, creating a meditative play of colour and form.

Hear how the artwork was inspired by wildflowers after rain and enjoy the softly glowing pathways at a gentle pace. This is an Optional Experience at additional cost, bookable on tour.

Savour outback hospitality at an exclusive Uluru Barbecue Dinner, featuring grilled meats, seasonal salads, and damper served al fresco. As twilight deepens, guides point out the southern night sky, its constellation-rich darkness unspoiled by city lights.

Relax into conversation and outback flavours while Uluru’s presence anchors the horizon. This is an Optional Experience at additional cost and can be pre-booked on tour.
