Meet your Travel Director and fellow travellers over a welcome drink in Helsinki. This hosted gathering offers a relaxed introduction to the small group and a chance to hear more about the journey through Finland and Norway.

Set in Finland’s seaside capital, it brings everyone together before the Arctic landscapes become the focus. Share introductions and settle into the convivial atmosphere of the tour.

Enjoy a welcome dinner at Aurora Village, a boutique retreat near Ivalo in Finnish Lapland. Your glass-roofed cabin offers a distinctive way to watch the Arctic sky from the warmth of your room.

Ivalo lies around 250 kilometres above the Arctic Circle, where long winter nights create opportunities to see the northern lights overhead. The aurora is a natural phenomenon, so a sighting cannot be guaranteed.

Explore Honningsvåg with your Travel Director and hear about the past and present of this small fishing community on Norway’s island of Magerøya. Get your bearings among its harbourfront streets, where boats and working waterfront views speak to the town’s close relationship with the sea.

This orientation offers a grounded introduction to life in the far north, beyond the region’s dramatic scenery. Honningsvåg’s setting makes its maritime heritage part of the everyday landscape.

Get to know Alta on an orientation in this northern Norwegian city beside the Altafjord. Hear how a community long associated with Arctic life has developed into a centre for travellers seeking the landscapes and winter skies of Finnmark.

Alta has a particular place in aurora research: the world’s first permanent Northern Lights observatory was established nearby in the late 19th century. This local context gives meaning to the city’s enduring connection with the northern lights.

Visit one of the world’s early ice hotels in Alta and share a chilled drink at its ice bar. Experience an Arctic interpretation of hospitality shaped by winter itself, with the pleasure of stepping from the cold outdoors into a space made to celebrate it.

The ice-hotel setting reflects northern Norway’s inventive use of its long, snowy season. A drink with fellow travellers adds a sociable note to this distinctly cold-climate experience.

Meet the Lyrek family and their champion Alaskan huskies at a working farm in Alta. Hear firsthand accounts of marathon Arctic dog-sled races and learn about the endurance, care and teamwork involved before meeting the dogs.

Share an oven-baked lunch of seasonal northern specialties, such as fresh fish or reindeer, accompanied by salads and wine. The family’s racing stories and working dogs offer an intimate perspective on a tradition closely tied to travel across the Arctic.

Discover Tromsø on a city orientation in northern Norway’s largest city, situated on the island of Tromsøya. Get a sense of its island setting, with waterways and snow-capped mountains forming a dramatic backdrop to everyday urban life.

Often described as a gateway to the Arctic, Tromsø has long served communities travelling and working across the far north. The orientation helps place its lively streets within a wider landscape of sea, mountains and polar history.

Join a Sámi guide at a reindeer camp near Tromsø and help feed the herd. Meet members of an Indigenous community whose knowledge and traditions remain deeply connected to Arctic landscapes and reindeer herding.

Gather inside a lávvu, a traditional Sámi tent, for stories and folk songs around the fire. A traditional meal and hot drinks make this a welcoming opportunity to learn directly from your hosts about Sámi life, culture and the care of their heritage.

Explore Oslo’s contemporary Bjørvika district on a city orientation, seeing the Oslo Opera House and Deichman Library. These prominent waterfront buildings show how the Norwegian capital has reshaped former harbour areas into public cultural spaces.

The Opera House’s pale, sloping exterior meets the edge of the Oslofjord, while the library is a focal point of the neighbourhood. Together they offer an engaging introduction to modern Oslo’s architecture and relationship with the water.

Share a Celebration Dinner with your fellow travellers at a local restaurant in Oslo. Enjoy dinner with wine and raise a toast together in Norway’s capital, on the shores of the Oslofjord.

Unlike a routine hotel meal, this hosted gathering is an occasion to exchange favourite moments from the journey and enjoy Scandinavian hospitality around the table. It provides a convivial close to the small-group experience.

Learn about king crabs on an optional experience from Honningsvåg and enjoy a fresh, sea-to-table lunch featuring this northern delicacy. It is a chance to focus on the seafood that has become closely associated with the waters of Norway’s far north.

The experience pairs an introduction to the crab with the pleasure of tasting it close to its source. This excursion is at additional cost and bookable on tour; ask your Travel Director for availability and details.

Visit Alta Museum to discover the prehistoric rock art for which the area is recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Depictions of people, animals and boats offer a window into lives lived in northern Norway thousands of years ago.

The carvings make Alta’s history tangible on a timescale far older than its modern aurora tourism. This suggested visit is at additional cost and bookable on tour, subject to availability; confirm arrangements with your Travel Director.
