Additional information

Join a guided panoramic tour through New Zealand’s compact capital, taking in civic landmarks, waterfront promenades and creative neighbourhoods. Ascend to the Mount Victoria Lookout for sweeping harbour views that set Wellington’s hills, bays and skyline in perspective.

From the curve of Te Whanganui-a-Tara to timber villas clinging to the slopes, your orientation reveals stories of politics, coffee culture and wind-shaped city life. It’s a succinct, insightful introduction that helps you read the landscape like a local.

Cruise the Cook Strait toward the South Island, watching rugged headlands give way to the emerald maze of Queen Charlotte Sound. Glide between forested headlands and sheltered coves as the water turns calm and glassy within the Marlborough Sounds.

This scenic sailing follows routes once used by Maori navigators and early settlers. Scan for dolphins and seabirds, and soak up the sense of arrival as ridgelines and inlets unfold in a dramatic, fjord-like seascape.

Explore Blenheim’s Omaka galleries where Weta Workshop brings aviation history vividly to life. Step inside Knights of the Sky (WWI) and Dangerous Skies (WWII), where immersive sets and rare WWI and WWII aircraft recreate airfields, dogfights and behind-the-lines stories.

Curated from Sir Peter Jackson’s collection, the museum blends original machines, period artefacts and dramatic staging. Guides add pilot lore and technical insight as you examine timber, fabric and rivets at close range.

Discover Christchurch on a guided city tour tracing the Avon River/Otakaro, the Botanic Gardens and innovative precincts born of creative thinking. See how green spaces, street art and contemporary design knit the Garden City together.

Hear how the city reimagined itself after the earthquakes, including a look at the striking Transitional “Cardboard Cathedral” and carefully restored heritage facades. The result is a balanced portrait of resilience, history and inviting outdoor rhythm.

Visit the stone Church of the Good Shepherd on the shores of turquoise Lake Tekapo, framed by the Southern Alps. Step inside this simple sanctuary where the altar window opens directly to water coloured by glacial silt.

Built in 1935 to honour pioneering settlers, the chapel anchors a landscape within the Aoraki Mackenzie International Dark Sky Reserve. The harmony of modest architecture and vast alpine scenery makes this a favourite for reflection and photography.

Meet the Pavlova Queen for a warm home-hosted afternoon tea overlooking Lake Tekapo. Taste her signature dessert—crisp meringue with a soft centre, crowned with cream and fruit—while lake and mountain views fill the windows.

Angie shares the trans-Tasman tale behind pavlova as Stan adds stories from a lifetime on the land. It’s convivial, personal and rooted in place—New Zealand hospitality distilled into one sweet, memorable encounter.

Explore the Highlands Motorsport Museum in Cromwell, where interactive exhibits and legendary race machines celebrate speed, design and daring. Trace engineering leaps across rally, touring and prototype cars presented with cinematic flair.

New Zealand’s motorsport story—from grassroots club days to global podiums—unfolds through memorabilia and archival footage. Outside, Central Otago’s big-sky scenery adds a rugged backdrop that underscores the museum’s drama.

Wander Arrowtown’s Buckingham Street, where restored shopfronts and cottages preserve gold-rush charm. Amble to the Chinese Settlement beside the Arrow River to glimpse modest huts and the layered histories of early miners.

Interpretive panels and small museums reveal fortunes and hardships from the 1860s diggings. Cobbled lanes, old orchards and mountain backdrops create a contemplative village atmosphere that rewards unhurried exploration.

Board the Milford Mariner for an immersive overnight voyage through Milford Sound/Piopiotahi. Drift beneath Mitre Peak and watch cascading waterfalls like Stirling and Bowen thunder from hanging valleys as sheer walls glow in changing light.

A specialist nature guide deepens the story of geology and wildlife, with opportunities to explore by kayak or tender when conditions allow. After dinner at anchor, step on deck to stargaze, waking to breakfast amid mist and mountains.

Travel through Fiordland National Park, pausing at Mirror Lakes to photograph perfect reflections of the Earl Mountains. Short boardwalks and birdsong frame a meeting of beech forest, water and granite.

Continue through the hand-hewn Homer Tunnel, emerging to towering cliffs and avalanche-carved valleys on the approach to the Cleddau. This route foregrounds nature’s architecture before the full drama of the fiord reveals itself.

Cruise Lake Wakatipu aboard the historic TSS Earnslaw, a coal-fired engine room thumping beneath polished timber decks since 1912. Watch the machinery in action as the Remarkables and Queenstown’s alpine skyline slide by in crisp southern light.

The Earnslaw is a floating time capsule of early lake travel, complete with heritage photographs and brass fittings. The voyage pairs mountain panoramas with the romance of steam for a richly atmospheric crossing.

Pause at a panoramic viewpoint for sweeping views of Franz Josef Glacier/Ka Roimata o Hine Hukatere, where ancient ice meets temperate rainforest. From safe, accessible lookouts, sense the scale of seracs and crevasses flowing toward the valley.

Hear how local Maori describe the glacier as the “tears of Hine Hukatere,” and why this fast-moving river of ice has long fascinated explorers. The contrast of blue ice and green canopy is pure West Coast theatre.

Visit a local wildlife centre to encounter New Zealand’s kiwi and other native birdlife up close. Walk purpose-built habitats while guides share conservation breeding programs and the challenges of protecting rare species.

Listen for distinct calls and observe nocturnal behaviour in thoughtfully designed enclosures that mirror alpine and forest ecosystems. This experience is at additional cost and bookable on tour.

Lift off on a scenic helicopter flight over the Southern Alps, tracing icefalls and neve fields of Fox and Franz Josef. Touch down to land on ancient ice for crystalline air and a sweeping panorama of peaks and valleys.

Pilot-guides explain glacial dynamics and alpine geology as you stand amid snow and silence. This weather-dependent experience is at additional cost and bookable on tour.

Settle by a crackling open hearth for a convivial family-style dinner at a lakeside lodge gazing toward the Ben Ohau Range. Seasonal dishes arrive to share, perfectly matched to mountain air and wide Mackenzie skies.

With minimal light pollution, step outside after dinner to admire stars in the Aoraki Mackenzie Dark Sky Reserve before returning to the glow indoors. The mood is unhurried, rustic and deeply restorative.
