Additional information

Join an exclusive guided tour of Bill Richardson Transport World in Invercargill. Browse a collection of vintage and classic vehicles, with a guide drawing out stories behind the machines and the people who collected them.

The museum grew from the collection of Southland businessman Bill Richardson. Its vehicles illuminate changing styles of travel and working life, while the setting gives a distinctive insight into Invercargill’s enthusiasm for motoring heritage.

Cruise Piopiotahi (Milford Sound) in Fiordland National Park, travelling beneath sheer rock walls and past rainforest and cascading waterfalls. Watch the shoreline for seals and native birdlife as the scale of the fiord comes into view from the water.

Carved by glaciers, Piopiotahi is one of Aotearoa New Zealand’s most striking coastal landscapes. Rain and shifting cloud can transform its cliffs and waterfalls, giving the cruise an atmosphere shaped by Fiordland’s wild weather.

Experience working-farm life at Real Country, where sheep dog mustering and horse demonstrations show the skills behind rural work. The demonstrations bring travellers close to traditions that remain central to farming in New Zealand’s south.

This MAKE TRAVEL MATTER® Experience supports the Fairlight Foundation, which advances women in agriculture. It offers more than a farm show: a chance to connect practical rural skills with an initiative investing in the people shaping the industry’s future.

Visit historic Arrowtown, a former gold-mining settlement near Queenstown. Explore its preserved streetscape and take in the mountain setting beside the Arrow River, where prospectors once searched for gold.

Founded during the Otago gold rush of the 1860s, Arrowtown retains a strong sense of its mining past. Its historic buildings and compact streets make the town an inviting place to consider the lives and journeys that shaped this corner of Central Otago.

Venture to Rakiura (Stewart Island) on an optional excursion from the Invercargill region. Experience the remote island’s rugged coastal scenery and look for the native wildlife that makes it a draw for nature lovers.

South of the mainland, Rakiura is known for its forests, sheltered bays and quieter pace. This experience is at additional cost and bookable on tour; the activities available will depend on the option offered during your trip.

Discover the highlights of Otautahi (Christchurch) with your Travel Director, including the Cardboard Cathedral and the Christchurch Botanic Gardens. See two contrasting expressions of the city: an inventive contemporary landmark and leafy grounds beside the Avon River.

Designed by architect Shigeru Ban, the cathedral became a symbol of resilience following the 2011 earthquake. The gardens reflect Christchurch’s long-standing reputation as New Zealand’s Garden City.

Explore historic Clyde, a Central Otago township whose preserved streets recall the region’s nineteenth-century gold rush. Look out for stone and timber buildings now occupied by cafés and boutiques, with the surrounding hills giving the town a distinctly inland character.

Gold discoveries drew prospectors to this stretch of the Clutha River in the 1860s. Clyde’s surviving buildings offer a tangible connection to that era, making a wander through town a chance to see how its mining heritage remains part of everyday life.
