We set ourselves up for the final day of the year with breakfast at our hotel before we head into Windsor for a few hours of sightseeing. There is plenty to discover in this royal, riverside town – be sure to take a festive photo in front of Windsor Castle’s beautifully decorated Christmas tree before we head back to our hotel in the mid-afternoon. There’s time to change into your partywear before joining our gala dinner in the hotel restaurant, which is followed by a special New Year’s Eve disco and glass of Buck’s Fizz to toast the arrival of 2026. Cheers to that!
New Year in London with Gala Dinner
Following breakfast at the hotel, we make our way back into central London for some time at leisure. Spend it as you please: whether you fancy discovering famous landmarks or indulging in some retail therapy, there is something for everyone to enjoy. In the mid-afternoon, we re-join the coach for our journey home.
Windsor Sightseeing Visit
On day 2, set out for the royal, riverside town of Windsor for a few leisurely hours. Meander past independent shops and old coaching inns, admire the view along the Long Walk to the Great Park, and take a festive photo by Windsor Castle’s grand Christmas tree. Cross the Eton Bridge for glimpses of centuries-old college buildings and the curve of the Thames.
Here, England’s story feels close at hand: Windsor Castle is the world’s oldest and largest occupied fortress, begun by William the Conqueror, while nearby St George’s Chapel is a masterpiece of Perpendicular Gothic and spiritual home of the Order of the Garter. Enjoy time to browse and sightsee before returning to the hotel in the mid-afternoon.
New Year’s Eve Gala Dinner, Disco & Midnight Toast
Dress for celebration on day 2 and join our gala dinner in the hotel restaurant. Savour a festive menu, convivial company and a warm holiday mood before the party shifts gears and you dance at a New Year’s Eve disco. As the clock nears twelve, gather with fellow travellers to raise a glass of Buck’s Fizz at midnight.
Expect cheery countdowns, bursts of laughter and perhaps a chorus of “Auld Lang Syne” as you count down to 2026. This is a relaxed, celebratory evening under one roof—good food, good music and time to share the moment without the crowds, then an easy stroll back to your room when the night winds down.
London at Leisure – Landmarks & Shopping
Following breakfast on day 3, the coach returns you to central London for time at leisure. Trace your own route between Buckingham Palace, Trafalgar Square and the grand avenues of Oxford Street and Regent Street, or slip into characterful quarters like Covent Garden’s market halls. With no set schedule, you can follow the mood—browse, people-watch or hunt for last-minute treasures.
For riverside views, wander the South Bank towards the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben and pause for photos and reflection along the Thames. Whether you seek iconic sights or quiet corners, this flexible window captures London’s winter charm before rejoining the coach in the mid-afternoon for the journey home.
Windsor Castle Admission & St George’s Chapel (Optional)
Enhance your Windsor time on day 2 with an interior visit (additional cost, bookable on tour). Step inside Windsor Castle to view the State Apartments adorned with rich tapestries and paintings, then continue to St George’s Chapel, a jewel of late-medieval Gothic where the Order of the Garter convenes. Docents and displays illuminate royal ceremony and daily life within the walls.
Founded by William the Conqueror and expanded over centuries, this is both fortress and living palace—the setting for royal events and quiet worship. In the chapel, look for fan vaulting and heraldic banners, details that speak to a lineage stretching back to 1348. Rejoin the group afterwards to continue your leisurely exploration of town.
Thames River Cruise: Westminster to Tower (Optional)
See London from its historic waterway on a narrated boat ride (additional cost, bookable on tour) during the free time on day 1 evening or day 3. Glide downstream and cruise the River Thames past the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben, the dome of St Paul’s Cathedral and beneath Tower Bridge, with heaters and indoor seating keeping things cosy on winter sailings.
For two millennia the Thames has been London’s working artery—host to royal pageants, bustling wharves and even winter Frost Fairs when the river froze. From the water, the skyline’s layers come into focus: medieval stronghold at the Tower of London, Victorian engineering at Tower Bridge, contemporary glass on the banks. It’s a tranquil, ever-moving vantage for photographers.
London Eye Flight (Optional)
Capture the capital in a single sweep with a rotation on the London Eye (additional cost, bookable on tour) during day 3’s free time. Step into a glass capsule and ascend to 135 metres, where the city arranges itself in miniature: the gilded quadrangle of Buckingham Palace, the pinnacles of Westminster Abbey and the shard-like silhouette of The Shard.
Opened to mark the millennium, the Eye reframed how Londoners see their city, offering soaring views that link river bends, royal parks and landmark spires in one calm, 30-minute arc. It’s an ideal finale for photographers and first-timers alike—time enough to track the Thames, spot familiar icons and choose your favourite angle for a parting shot.
Evening London Transfer & Free Time
After check-in, travel by coach into the capital and enjoy a free evening exploring central London on day 1. Find a spot for dinner (not included) and follow the glow of seasonal lights past Trafalgar Square, the theatres of the West End and the boutiques of Covent Garden. Stroll the South Bank to watch lights ripple across the Thames and pause for photos and reflection as the city shifts into night.
London after dark blends cosy pubs with grand facades and river views that have evolved from Roman Londinium to a modern world city. With time to wander at your own pace, soak up the winter atmosphere before the coach returns you to the hotel later in the evening.
