Additional information

Visit a traditional woodcarving workshop in Mas Village and watch craftspeople guide chisels through timber to create finely detailed designs. See the patient handwork behind a craft for which this village near Ubud is particularly known.

Woodcarving has long been part of Bali’s artistic and religious traditions, appearing in decorative panels, figures and temple details. The workshop brings that heritage into focus through the sound of tools at work and the scent of freshly cut wood.

Meet your Travel Director and fellow travellers over a welcome dinner in Ubud, Bali’s centre for arts, crafts and traditional performance. It is a relaxed chance to share a meal and get to know the people travelling with you.

Set among the rice-growing landscapes of central Bali, Ubud offers a fitting introduction to the island’s cultural life. Your Travel Director will also introduce the experiences available throughout the tour.

View the green curves of Tegallalang’s rice terraces near Ubud, where narrow planted levels follow the contours of the hillside. Take in one of Bali’s most recognisable landscapes and see how cultivation shapes the steep terrain.

The terraces reflect the island’s longstanding rice-growing traditions and the cooperative water management known as subak. Their layered geometry offers a striking view of a working agricultural landscape, rather than scenery created solely for visitors.

Enjoy a traditional Balinese lunch with a sacred volcanic mountain in view. Regional flavours and a highland setting make this more than a routine meal, offering time to appreciate the landscape while you eat.

Volcanoes hold an important place in Balinese spiritual life as well as defining the island’s terrain. The combination of local food and mountain scenery offers a distinctive perspective on how daily life, farming and belief are connected in Bali.

Visit Puri Saren Agung, also known as Ubud Palace, the former official residence of Ubud’s royal family. Explore its courtyards and look closely at the carved gateways, ornamental details and gardens that distinguish Balinese palace architecture.

Set in the heart of Ubud, the palace offers a tangible connection to the town’s royal heritage. Its open-air spaces and intricate stonework reveal an architectural tradition shaped by ceremony, artistry and the tropical setting.

Browse Ubud Market, where stalls display bright batiks, handwoven textiles, baskets, carved keepsakes and local art. Spend time looking through the goods and observing the bustle of this central Ubud marketplace.

The market brings together many of the materials, colours and craft traditions associated with Bali. It offers a lively contrast to the town’s quieter palace courtyards and a chance to see locally made work gathered in one place.

Visit Ulun Danu Bratan Temple on the shores of Lake Bratan. Admire its tiered shrines, which appear to float when the lake rises around them, against the green backdrop of Bali’s central highlands.

Founded in the 17th century, the temple is dedicated in part to Dewi Danu, the goddess of the lake and water. Its lakeside setting reflects the importance of water to Balinese farming and spiritual practice.

Visit Taman Ayun Temple in Mengwi, where a broad moat borders the grounds and successive courtyards frame carved stonework, tropical greenery and tall, multi-tiered meru shrines.

Built in 1634, this former royal temple is a notable example of Balinese temple design. Its ordered layout and water-surrounded setting make the visit as much about the relationship between architecture and landscape as the shrines themselves.

View Pura Luhur Uluwatu on its high coastal headland, with wide views over the sea. Experience a traditional Balinese Kecak performance, in which a circle of performers builds a pulsing rhythm through layered chants.

The dance draws on scenes from the Ramayana, using voices and movement to carry the drama. Together, the cliffside temple setting and choral performance offer a vivid encounter with Bali’s spiritual and performing traditions.

Dine on fresh seafood beside the water at Jimbaran Beach. Enjoy an included dinner in a coastal setting where the sound of the sea accompanies the meal.

Jimbaran is known for its beachside seafood dining, with fish and other catches commonly grilled and served close to the shore. The combination of sea air, local flavours and an open-air setting gives this dinner a character distinctly different from a hotel meal.

Tour Denpasar in a vintage VW Kombi for a distinctive introduction to Bali’s capital. Travel through the city in a characterful vehicle and get a different perspective on the urban side of the island.

Denpasar offers a contrast to Ubud’s arts scene and Sanur’s seafront, revealing the pace of Bali’s working capital. The classic Kombi adds a playful sense of occasion to the sightseeing. This Optional Experience is at additional cost and bookable on tour.

Cruise by catamaran to Nusa Lembongan for a full-day outing from Bali’s coast. Spend time on the water and snorkel in the island’s surrounding sea, enjoying a different view of the region beyond the mainland.

Nusa Lembongan is a small island southeast of Bali, known for its coastal scenery and marine environment. The combination of sailing and snorkelling suits travellers keen to experience that setting firsthand. This Optional Experience is at additional cost and bookable on tour.

Explore aspects of Balinese daily life through a market visit, a trek among lush rice fields and a visit to an ancient fertility temple. The varied activities offer a closer look at places that shape local routines and beliefs.

Markets, agriculture and temple traditions remain closely linked in Bali. Seeing them together adds depth to the island’s celebrated scenery and provides cultural context beyond its major landmarks. This Optional Experience is at additional cost and bookable on tour.

Enjoy an optional dinner at Tandjung Sari Hotel in Sanur, an established seaside retreat with an elegant Balinese atmosphere. The meal offers a hosted setting in which to spend an evening near the coast.

Sanur’s calmer shoreline and long-standing hospitality traditions give this dinner a different mood from a busy beach outing. It is a chance to linger over a meal in one of the area’s distinctive hotels. This Optional Experience is at additional cost and bookable on tour.

Visit Tanah Lot, the 16th-century sea temple set on a rocky outcrop off Bali’s coast. Watch waves break against its base and take in the distinctive silhouette of the shrine above the open water.

One of Bali’s most recognised coastal landmarks, Tanah Lot is closely associated with the island’s sea-temple traditions. The changing tide alters the view of the outcrop, making its dramatic position part of the experience.

Join a Balinese cooking class in Ubud to learn about the ingredients and methods behind traditional local dishes. This hands-on experience offers a closer look at the flavours you encounter across the island.

Balinese cooking often builds depth through aromatic spice pastes, herbs and carefully balanced seasonings. Learning how these elements come together makes the food more meaningful to taste. This Optional Experience is at additional cost and bookable on tour.

Take part in a spiritual yoga experience in Ubud, with all ability levels welcome. Stretch, breathe and move at a comfortable pace in a town known for its wellness spaces and green surroundings.

Ubud’s slower atmosphere makes room to focus on the practice itself, whether yoga is familiar or entirely new to you. It is a guided way to pause and reconnect during your time in Bali. This Optional Experience is at additional cost and bookable on tour.
