San Lorenzo de El Escorial Monastery
Visit El Escorial, the austere monastery-palace in the Sierra de Guadarrama, a UNESCO World Heritage site uniting royal residence, basilica, and library. Stroll cloistered courtyards, frescoed chambers, and a basilica whose sober granite mirrors Spain’s Counter-Reformation spirit.
Hear how the complex crystallized the power of the Habsburg court of Philip II and descend to the Pantheon of the Kings, resting place of Spain’s monarchs. Masterpieces and a famed library reveal a trove of learning behind the stern facade.
Toledo Guided Walking Tour
Explore the hilltop city on a guided tour of Toledo, threading tight lanes and stone archways to overlooks framing the Alcázar and the Toledo Cathedral. Cross small plazas in the Jewish Quarter where synagogues and courtyards evoke centuries of convivencia.
