Elevate your alpine adventure with the Gornergrat cog railway or a cable car to high viewpoints, gaining sweeping perspectives of the Matterhorn and the 4,000-metre giants of the Monte Rosa massif. Crisp air, creaking glaciers and serrated horizons create an unforgettable panorama.
Spend unhurried time on panoramic terraces to photograph the glittering icefields and ridge lines before descending to Zermatt’s cafés. This is an optional experience, bookable on tour at additional cost (approx. 110 CHF, payable locally), and operates subject to weather conditions.
Lake Como Towns & Villa Carlotta Gardens
Explore the Lake Como waterfront, where elegant promenades, shaded piazzas and glittering views have inspired poets and composers for centuries. Amble past grand facades and café terraces, and soak up the easy rhythm of life along Italy’s most celebrated shoreline.
Visit Villa Carlotta at Tremezzo, famed for its neoclassical interiors and sculpture galleries, then wander through hillside botanicals ablaze with spring azalea and camellia displays. Framed by cypress and stone balustrades, the gardens open to sublime vistas across mid-lake villages and the Bellagio promontory.
Locarno & The Centovalli Railway
Venture across the border by lake and road, gliding by private boat to Cannobio and onward to Switzerland’s chic Locarno. Linger on Piazza Grande and the lanes of the Old Town, where Mediterranean flair meets alpine backdrop beneath palm-fringed hillsides.
Board the Centovalli Railway and settle into its panoramic carriages for a cinematic ride through the “hundred valleys.” Cross stone viaducts above foaming cascades, slip past chestnut woods and terraced vines, and admire hamlets clinging to cliffs—an itinerary designed for pause for photos and reflection.
Zermatt via the Simplon Pass
Journey deep into the high Alps as you cross the Simplon Pass, the audacious mountain route first engineered as Napoleon’s great alpine road. Watch the landscape amplify from river valleys to glacier-fed torrents, meadows and serrated ridgelines stitched together by graceful stone bridges.
Arrive in Zermatt, the car-free village of weathered chalets and resonant cowbells, and walk to the vantage where the Matterhorn lifts its pyramidal summit above the valley. Alpine air, wooden barns and snow-bright horizons combine for a quintessential Swiss tableau.
Lake Orta & Isola San Giulio
Explore Lake Orta, the quiet jewel of the Italian lakes, and the pastel lanes of Orta San Giulio, where balconied houses and stone arcades encircle a waterside square. The scene is intimate and romantic, with mountain reflections rippling across the deep-blue surface.
Glide by boat to Isola San Giulio to visit its Romanesque basilica, adorned with medieval frescoes and an exquisite dark-marble pulpit. The hushed atmosphere and monastery walls heighten the island’s sense of seclusion, offering a contemplative counterpoint to the lake’s scenic drama.
Borromean Islands Cruise: Isola Pescatori & Isola Bella Palace
Discover the shimmering heart of Lake Maggiore as you cruise Lake Maggiore between its storybook isles. Step ashore on Isola Pescatori, where fishermen’s cottages, narrow lanes and waterside trattorie reveal centuries of lacustrine life, before continuing to the showpiece of the archipelago, Isola Bella.
On arrival, join a guided tour of Palazzo Borromeo, a 17th-century baroque residence rich with frescoed salons and glittering galleries. Stroll its terraced gardens scented with citrus and magnolia, watch white peacocks strut across balustrades, and gaze over tiered parterres to the Alps rising beyond the lake.
