FAQs
- Marrakesh: A modular trip means fellow travellers will join and leave at various locations. There’ll be some goodbyes, sure, but there’ll also be plenty of hellos with new like-minded travellers.
- Cape Town: Generally, the tap water in most of the locations we visit is safe to drink (and readily available too!) We don’t provide bottled water due to our sustainability promise, but your Trip Manager will sort you out for anything you might need during the trip.
- Cape Town: The question should be – when is it not the best time to travel to South Africa? In the summer (October to April), you’ll find perfect beach weather at our coastal destinations, and lush green landscapes everywhere. It also tends to be the birthing season (baby animals!!!). Winter (May to August) in South Africa is probably the best time for safaris since you’ll find wildlife gathering around waterholes.Luckily, the chances of spotting the Big 5 is equally good throughout the year. And if you’re here for the whales, visiting between June to November would be your best bet.
- Cape Town: You can book your flights with departure times after 7pm on our last day. We’ll arrive at OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg at around 4pm.
- Cape Town: We recommend that you book an Uber from the airport. It’s the easiest and most convenient way to get to the start locations on our trips.
- Chobe National Park: As the name suggests, a Special Stay ain’t your ordinary accommodation – it’s much more than that. Think of it as an experience in its own right. On this trip, you’ll be able to camp under the stars (all while being surrounded by wildlife) at your Special Stay.
- Amboseli: Nope, you’re all good! All equipment (tents, sleeping bags, etc) will be provided for you.
- Amboseli: You don’t have to. Your road crew will set up camp, cook meals, and clean up afterwards – but you’re always welcome to help!
- Amboseli: You’ll have access to proper bathrooms with real toilets, hot showers and everything you need – just shared with the crew.

Eswatini Village Cultural Visit
Meet residents of a local village in Eswatini and spend time learning about their culture, language and everyday life. This MAKE TRAVEL MATTER® experience centres on conversation with the people who call the country home.
Eswatini has a distinct cultural identity shaped by enduring community traditions. The visit offers a more personal understanding of the country than its landscapes alone can provide, with local voices at the heart of the experience.
Guided Safari Walk in Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary
Explore Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary on foot with a local guide, watching for antelope, wildebeest and warthogs in the surrounding grassland. Walking brings you closer to the sounds and smaller details of the landscape than a vehicle-based safari.
Situated in Eswatini’s Ezulwini Valley, Mlilwane is known for wildlife encounters without the Big Five. Your guide helps the group navigate the sanctuary while you take in its open scenery at a quieter pace.
Kruger National Park Wildlife Experience
Search for wildlife in Kruger National Park, one of Africa’s largest and best-known protected areas. Keep watch for elephants, giraffes, antelope and, with luck, members of the Big Five as you travel through the park’s varied bushveld.
Kruger’s rivers, woodland and open grassland support a remarkable range of animals and birds. Sightings are never guaranteed; the appeal lies in watching the landscape closely and seeing what emerges from it.
Special Stay at Lower Sabie Safari Camp
Stay inside Kruger National Park at an exclusive safari campsite within Lower Sabie’s fenced main camp. Canvas dome tents come equipped with stretchers, mattresses, linen, towels and charging outlets, while a communal firepit offers a place to gather beneath the stars.
Lower Sabie sits beside the Sabie River, where wildlife may approach the water. Listen for the calls of nocturnal animals from the safety of camp, or look towards the river from its restaurant.
Kruger K9 Watchdog Project Ranger Encounter
Meet a Kruger ranger and learn how the K9 Watchdog Project uses trained dogs in efforts to protect wildlife from poaching. Hear about the work behind conservation in a park where safeguarding animals is an ongoing challenge.
This MAKE TRAVEL MATTER® experience gives a human perspective on anti-poaching work and explains how donations to the project support it. It is a chance to understand the people and dogs protecting Kruger’s wildlife, not just the animals visitors hope to see.
Kruger Farewell Game Drive
Watch for wildlife on a final game drive through Kruger National Park as you travel towards the park exit. Keep binoculars ready for animals beside the road and scan the bush for movement, from grazing antelope to larger, harder-to-spot species.
No two drives offer the same sightings. Kruger’s changing habitats make this a distinct opportunity to observe wildlife in its natural surroundings, with one more chance to spot a rhino or another elusive resident.
St Lucia Hippo Boat Cruise
Cruise the St Lucia Estuary in search of hippos and other waterside wildlife. From the boat, watch the surface for eyes and ears, and look along the banks for birds and crocodiles while your skipper navigates the waterways.
The estuary forms part of the UNESCO-listed iSimangaliso Wetland Park, a coastal landscape of wetlands, lakes and dunes. This optional cruise is at additional cost and bookable on tour.
Local Zulu Village Cultural Visit
Visit a local Zulu village near St Lucia to meet residents and hear about their culture, customs and traditions. This MAKE TRAVEL MATTER® experience creates space for learning directly from local people rather than viewing the area only through its wildlife.
Zulu heritage is integral to KwaZulu-Natal’s identity, with language and community practices that remain part of daily life. This optional visit is at additional cost and bookable on tour.
iSimangaliso Walking Safari
Take a walking safari in iSimangaliso Wetland Park and experience its habitats at ground level. Keep your eyes open for antelope and signs of larger wildlife, which may include buffalo, rhinos and elephants.
The UNESCO-listed park protects an exceptional mix of wetland, savannah and coastal ecosystems. On foot, the sounds, tracks and textures of the landscape become part of the encounter. This optional safari is at additional cost and bookable on tour; wildlife sightings cannot be guaranteed.
St Lucia Marine Safari
Head out on a marine safari from the St Lucia area to look for ocean wildlife along South Africa’s KwaZulu-Natal coast. Dolphins, sharks and, in season, migrating whales are among the animals you may encounter.
This stretch of coastline borders the marine habitats of iSimangaliso Wetland Park, where conditions and seasons shape every outing. The optional safari is at additional cost and bookable on tour, with sightings dependent on nature and sea conditions.
St Lucia Sunset Game Drive & South African Buffet
Join a sunset game drive in the St Lucia area, watching for wildlife as the afternoon light softens. The outing also features a traditional South African buffet dinner, making it an evening centred on both the landscape and local food.
Dusk can bring a different atmosphere to a wildlife drive, with changing colours and animal activity to observe. This optional experience is at additional cost and bookable on tour; sightings are never guaranteed.
Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Half-Day Game Drive
Take a half-day game drive in Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Game Reserve, scanning the KwaZulu-Natal bush for the Big Five and other wildlife. The reserve is particularly meaningful for its role in the conservation of the southern white rhino.
Rolling hills, river corridors and open grassland give the drive varied scenery as well as varied places to look for animals. A picnic lunch may be available. The optional drive is at additional cost and bookable on tour.
Guided Mountain Bike Ride in Mlilwane
Cycle through Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary on a guided mountain bike ride, taking in Eswatini’s open scenery while watching for antelope and warthogs. The route offers an active way to experience the sanctuary beyond a walking safari.
Mlilwane is a distinctive place to explore at this pace because the Big Five are not present in the sanctuary. Enjoy the fresh air and keep your attention on both the trail and its wildlife. This optional ride is at additional cost and bookable on tour.
Kruger Sunset Game Drive
Explore Kruger National Park on a sunset game drive, looking for the Big Five and other wildlife as the light changes across the bush. Keep watch along the roadsides and at water sources, where animals may appear without warning.
The approach of evening brings shifting colours and sounds to this protected landscape. Each drive offers its own set of possibilities rather than promised sightings. This optional game drive is at additional cost and bookable on tour.
Traditional South African Braai
Join a traditional South African braai at the Kruger safari camp, sharing a barbecue-style meal with local sides and desserts. It is a relaxed way to gather with fellow travellers in the park setting.
More than a cooking method, the braai is a familiar South African social tradition built around food and conversation. The camp’s evening atmosphere gives this meal a character of its own. This optional experience is at additional cost and bookable on tour.
