Meet your fellow travellers over a welcome drink in Amman, Jordan’s capital, before sharing dinner together. It is a hosted opportunity to get to know the group and hear about the places and traditions that shape the journey.

Built across a series of hills, Amman brings ancient sites and contemporary Jordanian life into close proximity. The gathering offers a relaxed introduction to the country without requiring any prior knowledge of its history.

Explore Amman on a city tour taking in the hilltop Citadel and Archaeological Museum, the Roman Amphitheatre and the Folklore Museum. Together, these sites reveal layers of the capital’s history, from antiquity to everyday Jordanian traditions.

Look out across the city’s densely built hills from the Citadel and see the theatre’s stone seating set into the slope below. The museums add context through archaeological finds and displays of traditional clothing and domestic life.

Visit the Iraq al-Amir Women’s Centre to learn how its members make olive-oil soap and turn recycled paper into cards and notebooks. Try your hand at the crafts and enjoy a lunch prepared by the women.

This Make Travel Matter® experience brings you into direct contact with a community initiative supporting women’s skills and economic opportunities. The handmade products and shared meal offer a personal view of local enterprise beyond Jordan’s archaeological landmarks.

Walk through Jerash with your Travel Director and explore one of the region’s best-preserved Greco-Roman cities. See soaring Corinthian columns and substantial surviving city walls as the scale of its ancient streets comes into view.

Jerash flourished under Roman rule and stood on trade routes linking inland settlements with the Mediterranean. Its monumental remains make it possible to picture the civic and commercial life of a city that drew attention from Emperor Hadrian nearly two millennia ago.

Share a home-cooked meal with Jordanian hosts in Amman and taste local favourites around the family table. Conversation and stories about life in the capital give this Be My Guest experience its personal character.

Jordanian hospitality often centres on the generous sharing of food and time together. Meeting residents in their home offers a perspective that sightseeing alone cannot provide: a chance to hear how family life and local customs are lived today.

Visit Mount Nebo and take in the broad view across the Jordan Valley towards the land traditionally associated with Moses’ first sight of the Promised Land. Explore the site’s ancient ruins and appreciate why this height has long drawn pilgrims.

Mount Nebo’s biblical associations give the panorama meaning beyond its scenery. The viewpoint connects Jordan’s landscape with a story shared across religious traditions, while the archaeological remains speak to centuries of worship on the mountain.

See Madaba’s sixth-century mosaic map of the Holy Land, an intricate floor mosaic that depicts towns and sacred places in coloured stone. Look closely at its surviving details to discover how Byzantine-era makers represented the region.

Preserved in St George’s Church, the map is valued as both an artwork and an early geographic record. Its tiny tesserae turn a broad landscape into a richly detailed image, making this a distinctive stop for travellers interested in history and craftsmanship.

Explore Shobak Castle, a medieval Crusader stronghold set on a commanding hilltop along Jordan’s historic King’s Highway. Walk among its stone ruins and take in the surrounding landscape from a site built for defence and control.

Founded in the early twelfth century, the fortress recalls a turbulent period when competing powers contested the region’s routes and settlements. Its weathered masonry and elevated position make the strategic importance of this part of Jordan easy to grasp.

Prepare traditional Bedouin coffee with a Local Specialist near Petra, grinding beans by hand, roasting them over an open flame and brewing them with cardamom. Hear how serving the coffee expresses welcome and respect, including the custom of offering cups in odd numbers.

Share dinner with a Bedouin tribe and taste Jordanian flavours in a desert-camp setting. Stories, food and the coffee ritual bring the traditions of Bedouin hospitality into focus beneath the night sky.

Enter Petra through the narrow Siq, walking between high sandstone cliffs until the carved facade of Al Khazneh, the Treasury, appears ahead. Explore further among the Rose City’s rock-cut tombs and temples, where shifting light brings out the stone’s pink and red tones.

Petra was a major Nabataean trading centre connected to ancient caravan routes. Its monumental facades and dramatic approach show how its builders combined skilled stone carving with the natural shelter of the landscape.

Stay in a tented camp in Wadi Rum, surrounded by open desert and sandstone mountains. Watch golden light spread across the rock at sunset and look up at the star-filled sky once darkness settles over the valley.

Wadi Rum has long been home to Bedouin communities, whose traditional handwoven tents are part of the region’s nomadic heritage. An overnight stay gives you time to experience the desert’s changing colours and its quiet after nightfall.

Travel by jeep through Wadi Rum to see its wide sandy valleys, sandstone formations and steep rock faces from within the desert landscape. Look out for canyons, waterholes and ancient rock markings along the route.

Wind and time have shaped Wadi Rum’s striking terrain, while traces left by earlier inhabitants reveal a much longer human history. The jeep tour offers a closer view of features that cannot be appreciated from the edge of this vast protected desert.
