Isle of Wight House Party

From a morning pickup in your local area we travel by coach to catch the ferry to the Isle of Wight and travel onwards to our hotel.

Isle of Wight House Party

On our delightful excursion, we head first to the island’s bustling capital, Newport. This lovely town centres on two squares with elegant Georgian and Victorian architecture surrounding them: take the chance to explore the historic quayside or browse the selection of specialty shops here. We continue on to the seaside resort of Ryde with its long stretch of golden sand, pretty esplanade, marina and beautiful gardens. It’s back to our hotel this afternoon, for tea and cake.

Isle of Wight House Party

Our optional excursion takes in some of the Isle of Wight’s highlights, beginning with the Needles. We stop to admire the magnificent views of the legendary towering rocks which rise up from the sea to form the postcard picture of the island. Next is the historic port town of Yarmouth, boasting some of the oldest architecture on the island including a 16th-century castle, and then Cowes, home to the world-famous regatta. Many of the town’s ornate buildings date from Queen Victoria’s time and are in the style popularised by her consort Prince Albert. It’s a lovely place to enjoy a stroll or a treat in one of the cafés!

Isle of Wight House Party

After breakfast we check out of the hotel and make our way home.

On day 2, set out for Newport, the island’s lively county town. Its twin squares are framed by Georgian and Victorian architecture, from smart facades to the imposing Minster. Wander the historic quayside on the River Medina, browse independent shops and markets, and enjoy a free hour for coffee beneath mellow stone and brickfronts.

Continue to Ryde, a classic seaside resort with a long strand and pretty esplanade planted with palms. Stroll the arcades, admire Ryde Pier—one of Britain’s oldest—and watch the hovercraft skim to Southsea. The town’s elegant terraces recall its 19th-century heyday, while gardens and a small marina invite you to pause for photos and reflection before returning to Shanklin.

One afternoon during your stay, gather for an afternoon with tea, coffee and cake. Find a comfortable seat with a sea view, sip a freshly brewed cup, and share stories with fellow travellers as the light shifts over Sandown Bay and seabreezes drift in from the promenade.

The ritual of tea is woven into island tradition, echoing Victorian resort life when visitors promenaded Shanklin’s shore. Expect generous slices, warm conversation, and time to pause for photos and reflection before the evening’s plans. It’s a gentle, convivial interlude that captures the trip’s house-party spirit.

On day 3, join an optional highlights tour (additional cost £15pp, bookable on tour) to the island’s western tip. From Alum Bay, gaze across the chalk stacks of the Needles and their red-and-white lighthouse, and watch the shifting hues of Alum Bay sands below. Sea breezes carry the tang of salt as you pause for photos and reflection along the headland.

Continue to Yarmouth, a pretty harbour town guarded by a compact 16th-century castle built by Henry VIII. Then head to Cowes, home of the world-famous regatta and the Royal Yacht Squadron. Stroll past ornate Victorian facades shaped by the era of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, browse nautical shops, or enjoy a free hour in a café before returning to Shanklin.

After arrival on day 1 and each evening of your stay, settle into the Shanklin Beach Hotel for dinner with sea views. Sample home-style dishes in the restaurant, then make the most of the 2-for-1 bar (6pm–9pm) to toast your island escape and soak in the seafront atmosphere as the lights glow along the esplanade.

On one night, the hotel presents evening entertainment—live music or a relaxed show—so you can mingle with fellow travellers in a friendly, coastal setting. Between courses and songs, step outside to hear the soft hush of waves along the esplanade, or enjoy a free evening with a leisurely promenade before turning in.

On day 1, travel by coach to the south coast and catch the ferry to the Isle of Wight. Step on deck to cruise across the Solent, with glimpses of Portsmouth’s Spinnaker Tower or the bustle of Southampton Water as sails and seabirds sweep across the channel. As the island rises ahead, the chalk downs come into view—an inviting prelude to your seaside stay.

This storied strait long linked the mainland to England’s “Garden Isle,” once guarded by Henry VIII’s coastal forts and cherished by Victorian holidaymakers. Your coach continues to Shanklin to soak in the seafront atmosphere. The return ferry crossing mirrors the route on day 4, offering a last look at open water and working harbours.
