Hogmanay Celebrations on the Ayrshire Coast
After joining the coach, we make our way to our hotel and check in.
Hogmanay Celebrations on the Ayrshire Coast
After breakfast, we make our way to Glasgow. Scotland’s largest city wears many hats and truly offers something for everyone to enjoy. Blending impressive Victorian architecture (a throwback to its wealthy trade and manufacturing days), a huge range of museums and galleries, alongside a splendid selection of retail opportunities (think shopping malls and bohemian markets), you certainly won’t be at a loss for something to do.
Don’t forget to pop into one of the many watering holes to meet some friendly locals – there might even be a band playing, after all, Glasgow is famed for its live music scene! Later, we enjoy our New Year celebrations at the hotel, including a Hogmanay buffet dinner.
Hogmanay Celebrations on the Ayrshire Coast
In contrast to the hustle and bustle of yesterday’s excursion, we enjoy a leisurely buffet brunch before we head to the glorious Ayrshire Coast to blow away the cobwebs. First up is the popular seaside resort of Ayr. This tiny beach town provides the perfect place to stroll along the charming seafront and admire the many fine Georgian and Victorian buildings.
Afterwards, we travel to Troon for some time to explore at leisure. Head to the stunning sandy beach to take in the fresh sea air and gaze out at the Isle of Arran. Fans of the popular TV series Outlander will no doubt recognise South Beach as one of the filming locations. This evening we enjoy the chef’s buffet dinner back at the hotel.
Hogmanay Celebrations on the Ayrshire Coast
After breakfast, we check out of our hotel and start our journey home, stopping en route in the marriage capital of the world, Gretna Green. In this famous village lies the original spot where young eloping couples would marry ‘over the anvil’ at the blacksmith shop.
Glasgow City Visit & Free Time
On day 2, travel by coach into Glasgow, where your Tour Director offers pointers before you enjoy a free afternoon to explore. Stroll George Square, wander the elegant arcades of Buchanan Street, or follow the River Clyde towards the Riverside Museum. In the West End, leafy avenues lead to the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, while the Merchant City brims with café culture and independent boutiques.
Scotland’s largest city wears its history with pride, from Victorian grandeur born of shipbuilding wealth to the distinctive lines of the Charles Rennie Mackintosh legacy. Pause at Glasgow Cathedral to sense the city’s medieval roots, then pause for photos and reflection amid striking civic architecture before returning to the hotel to prepare for tonight’s festivities.
Hogmanay Gala Evening: Buffet Dinner, Music & Traditions
As night falls on day 2, gather in the hotel for a festive Hogmanay buffet dinner with light entertainment. Raise a glass with fellow travellers, savour hearty Scottish favourites, and enjoy after-dinner tea and coffee as the atmosphere builds. As midnight nears, join the countdown to the New Year surrounded by convivial Ayrshire warmth.
Hogmanay is Scotland’s signature celebration, a time to sing “Auld Lang Syne”, exchange good-natured toasts, and embrace customs of first-footing that symbolise luck for the year ahead. Expect lively tunes, friendly conversation, and a sense of heritage that feels both local and welcoming—an evening that captures the spirit of Scottish celebration without leaving the comfort of your country-house setting.
New Year’s Day Brunch & Ayrshire Coast: Ayr Promenade and Troon
On day 3, ease into the year with a leisurely New Year’s Day brunch before a refreshing coastal drive. In Ayr, follow the seafront esplanade where the Low Green opens to broad sands and sea air. Admire elegant Georgian and Victorian terraces, soak in the lakeside atmosphere of parkland and shore, and enjoy time to stroll at your own pace.
Continue to Troon, a harbour town celebrated for sweeping South Beach views across to the Isle of Arran. Watch gulls wheel over fishing boats, trace the promenade past cafes and galleries, and glance towards the fairways of Royal Troon Golf Club. The salt-tanged breeze and misty coastal light offer a bracing reset after the night’s festivities, before returning to the hotel for a relaxed evening.
Hotel Evenings with Light Entertainment
Across the stay—especially on day 1 and day 3—the hotel lounge hosts light entertainment that’s sociable rather than loud. Settle in with a drink, tap your foot to easy-going ceilidh tunes or a sing-along, and chat with fellow travellers. It’s a comfortable way to round off each day without leaving the warmth of the country house.
The focus is on conviviality and local flavour. Expect gentle music, occasional quizzes, and time to relax after sightseeing. These informal evenings complement the grander Hogmanay celebration, ensuring there’s always a welcoming space to unwind, share highlights, and enjoy a free evening in classic Scottish surroundings.
Gretna Green Heritage Stop
On day 4, begin the journey south with a stop in Gretna Green, long famed as the UK’s marriage capital. Visit the historic Famous Blacksmiths Shop, where runaway couples once pledged vows over the anvil. There’s time to browse craft shops and cafés, pause for photos and reflection, and absorb the village’s romantic lore.
Gretna Green’s story springs from the 1754 Marriage Act, which drove young English couples north for swift Scottish unions officiated by so-called “anvil priests”. Today, exhibits and memorabilia evoke centuries of elopements, turning this brief break into a vivid glimpse of social history before the coach continues homewards.
Welcome Drink & Orientation at Adamton Country House
On day 1, arrive in Ayrshire and meet your Tour Director at the stately Adamton Country House Hotel. Enjoy a welcome drink as you receive a relaxed overview of the days ahead, then settle into your room before dinner. Step outside to soak in the quiet lawns and tree-lined drive, or find a cosy corner in the lounge to unwind after the journey.
Set within its own private grounds near Prestwick, the house evokes the warmth of Scottish hospitality. Your Tour Director shares tips on nearby walks and seaside towns, helping you enjoy a free evening at your own pace. The gentle start sets the tone for a sociable break built around seasonal traditions and coastal scenery.
