Hike Spain’s Sierra de Aitana route map

Begin your adventure at our pension in Guadalest, halfway up the valley on the north face of the Aitana Massif.

If you’d like to explore straight away, there is an optional self-guided walk around Guadalest. Our tour leader can provide you with the information needed.

Around 6pm, say hola to your tour leader and fellow travellers, when we gather as a group to get to know each other and learn more about the adventures ahead.

This evening your tour leader ensures a big Spanish welcome over dinner.

Meals: Dinner

We make our way to Racó de Tovaines, where we access the spectacular limestone peaks and needles of Penya Roc and walk through El Salt up to Collado Papatxi.

This area enchants people with its soaring towers and surrounding rock walls. Early sunset rays highlight the spine of the jagged Castellets Ridge that stretches down to Orxeta.

We return through Pas del Comptador back to Benimantell.

Meals: Breakfast,Lunch,Dinner

After a short transfer to Rincón del Olvido, we begin by ascending to pass El Contador (3,280ft/1,000m) and follow the western spine of the Serrella ridge to Mallada del Llop (4,465ft/1,361m).

We usually stop for a picnic lunch here and explore Pla de la Casa, one of the biggest and best-preserved snow wells, in the Valencia region, while enjoying the sweeping views of the Aitana range, and even the Valencia Mountains on a clear day.

After we begin our long descent, initially on a fairly steep gradient with a rocky/scree surface, which we zigzag down. During the last stretch, we follow a pleasant forest road and finish with a transfer back to our accommodation.

Meals: Breakfast,Lunch,Dinner

Embark on a fairly challenging walk to the summit of Puig Campana (4,626ft/1,410m) to enjoy 360-degree panoramas over peaks and ridges.

We approach the north face of this mountain along good trails and paths, embarking on a gentle climb passing the Collao del Llamp to the Collao Pouet, the base of the mountain.

From here, we climb a new footpath, which is technical and rocky, returning to our vehicle from the Casa de Dios. Scrambling is required on some sections.

Meals: Breakfast,Lunch,Dinner

Today is a free day to relax or perhaps head to the beach at Villajoyosa or visit a chocolate factory. Alternatively, take a tram to Altea and visit the old town and art galleries.

This evening, our tour leader can organise a group dinner at a restaurant in Guadalest.

Meals: Breakfast

Begin at the reservoir, hiking along the newly restored traditional path of Solana de Gorgues, which in 2,295ft (700m) of ascent takes us to the Font Major.

From here, we discover the high pastures of Foia Plana towards Morro Blau, a rocky prominence visible from many coastal points.

We have our lunch close to a fire-lookout building, before descending along Peña del Rastrell to the reservoir.

Meals: Breakfast,Lunch,Dinner

From the pension, we walk along the northern slopes (on some departures, we may need to take a transfer for this section) up to the Font de Partagat and then scramble through Pas de la Rabosa, the only natural break in the Aitana, which gives access to the summit from this north side.

We lunch at the Simas limestone fissures, which are up to 295ft (90m) deep, situated on a ridge near the summit of Aitana. It is an impressive geological formation and a perfect picnic spot. Weather permitting, it’s possible to climb the summit (optional).

We then have another long descent to Penyo Mulero reaching Font del Moli in Benimantell.

Meals: Breakfast,Lunch,Dinner

The tour ends in Guadalest after breakfast and we begin our return journey home.

Hike from Racó de Tovaines into a dramatic arena of karst towers, threading beneath the limestone needles of Penya Roc and on toward Collado Papatxi. The route traces airy paths with broad Mediterranean vistas as the jagged spine of the Castellets Ridge ripples toward Orxeta.

Expect textured geology—pitted cliffs, weathered walls—and shifting light that casts early sunset rays across the pinnacles. Return via Pas del Comptador, with time to pause for photos and reflection on the valley below.

Climb from Rincón del Olvido to the western crest of the Serrella, summiting Mallada del Llop for a lofty picnic perch. Ridge paths deliver far-reaching panoramas to the Aitana chain and, on clear days, the Valencia mountains shimmering on the horizon.

Explore the remarkable Pla de la Casa snow well, a stone-built ice pit recalling pre-refrigeration trade routes, before a careful scree-and-switchback descent. The outing rewards with sweeping views of the Aitana range and a satisfying sense of high-country scale.

Summit the emblematic Puig Campana via Collao del Llamp and Collao Pouet, tackling a newly marked line that includes sections of technical, rocky path and occasional hands-on scrambling. From the crest, drink in 360-degree panoramas over saw-toothed ridges, coves, and the glittering Mediterranean coast.

This classic ascent highlights the Sierra de Aitana’s rugged character—pines, thyme-scented air, pale limestone—and the dramatic drop toward the coastal plain. Your guide paces the climb to balance challenge and reward.

Trace the restored Solana de Gorgues mule path from the reservoir, climbing steadily to Font Major and the open meadows of the Xorta. Cross breezy high pastures toward the rocky crown of Morro Blau, a coastal landmark seen from far along the Costa Blanca.

After a scenic lunch near a fire-lookout, descend the weathered spine of Peña del Rastrell, looping back to the reservoir through fragrant scrub and Aleppo pines. It’s a varied mountain day with a fine mix of heritage paths and wild outlooks.

Walk from Benimantell toward Font de Partagat and scramble through the natural breach of Pas de la Rabosa, gateway to Aitana’s upper ridges. Unpack a picnic by the Simas de Partagat, remarkable limestone chasms plunging up to 90m, etched into the summit plateau.

Weather permitting, those keen can tag the Aitana Peak before a long descent to the spring at Font del Molí. The route showcases the massif’s stark geology—razor fissures, folded strata—and expansive coastal views.

Head to the coast to stroll Villajoyosa’s colorful seafront and unwind on its wide sandy beach. Between swims and café stops, visit the historic Valor Chocolate Museum to learn how cocoa shaped this fishing town’s fortunes and, if available, sample artisanal chocolates.

This relaxed coastal interlude balances the week’s high trails with sea air and sweet flavors. Optional experience at additional cost; transport and any entry/tasting fees are payable locally and bookable on tour.

Ride the coast on the local line to Altea and ride the coastal tram into a whitewashed hill town crowned by the blue-domed Church of Nuestra Señora del Consuelo. Wander cobbled lanes lined with studios and galleries, pausing for sea views from sunlit terraces.

Expect a slower rhythm and Mediterranean charm perfect for an unhurried afternoon. Optional experience at additional cost; tram fares and any gallery or tower entries are payable locally and bookable on tour.

Join your Tour Leader for a convivial group dinner in the village of Guadalest, tasting traditional Valencian dishes—from minxos and espencat to slow-cooked meats—paired with local wine. It’s an evening of shared stories and mountain flavors in a tucked-away setting.

Ideal during your mid-week downtime, this optional meal deepens your connection to the valley’s produce and people. Optional experience at additional cost (allow approximately €30) and bookable on tour, subject to availability.

Gather in the Guadalest Valley to meet your Tour Leader and travelling companions over a convivial meal at Rincón de Pepe. Savor home-style plates that reflect mountain Alicante—think rustic stews, grilled vegetables from the hearth, and local olive oil pressed from groves surrounding the property—while you sample regional wines included with dinner.

Hear practical tips for the routes ahead and gain local insight into the warm Valencian hospitality that defines this village stay. It’s an easygoing, flavour-forward start that sets a friendly tone for the week of walking.
