We also see the impressive Hawa Mahal (Palace of the Winds), then visit the hilltop Amber Fort, which sits above a lake a few miles from the main city. After, the tour leader generally takes the group to a textiles factory to see how the local textiles are created, from start to finish. At the end, we can browse the shop and pick up anything from a complete outfit to handmade notebooks made from offcuts.Upgrade to a room overlooking the Jal Mahal today – speak to your sales representative for more details

Many of our groups have seen Bengal tigers here over the last few years and today we maximise our chances of seeing one with two game drives. Our first starts before breakfast, at around 6am. As we search for tigers, we also hope to see the other wildlife living here: several deer species, crocodiles, and bird life including purple herons, kingfishers, cormorants, parakeets and partridges. We return in time for a later breakfast and a chance to relax and reflect on the wildlife spotted. We head out again for our second game drive around 2pm.Please note, occasionally the game drive timings or zones may be adjusted depending on government restrictions and changes in national park zonal opening/closing times.

India is famous for its food and there is ample opportunity to try various curries such as the familiar tandoori, biriyani and rogan josh. If you are a vegetarian, India is a great destination. There are wonderful desserts and excellent beers, soft drinks and Indian specialities such as lassi, a refreshing yoghurt drink.

You should allow at least 1,400-2,400 rupees (US$16-US$28) per day for lunch and dinner. In most towns we visit, there is a good selection of restaurants and a choice between Indian and Western food. Please note, service in restaurants can be quite slow. Tea and soft drinks are very cheap. A (large!) bottle of beer is approximately 300 rupees (approximately US$4).

Mineral water is widely available, but drinking water is provided in a large container in the bus to reduce our use of plastic, so please bring your own refillable water bottle.

Explore the Unesco-listed Agra Fort, Akbar’s red-sandstone citadel with elegant courts and pavilions later refined in marble by Shah Jahan. From its ramparts, gaze across the Yamuna toward the shimmering tomb defining an empire’s romance.

Continue to the Taj Mahal at sunset as marble shifts from ivory to rose. With your guide, step inside to study exquisite pietra dura inlay and Quranic calligraphy, and hear the tale of Shah Jahan and Mumtaz that inspired this masterpiece.

Set out on a dawn walking tour through the walled city chowkris as flower sellers stack marigolds and spice merchants lift shutters. Sip street-side chai, sample crisp kachori, and capture the glow of pastel facades washed in the city’s signature pink.

Hear how Maharaja Jai Singh II’s grid plan shaped neighborhoods of artisans and traders. Step into small shrines as temple bells ring and incense curls, meeting bangle-makers and sweet vendors for candid encounters that reveal Jaipur’s morning rhythms.

Venture into Ranthambore National Park on two game drives with naturalist guides, scanning lakes and dhok forests for the elusive Bengal tiger. Watch sambar and chital deer, mugger crocodiles on rocky banks, and flashes of kingfishers, bee-eaters and peafowl.

Learn how Project Tiger revived populations in this former royal preserve, where the cliffs of Ranthambore Fort rise over ruined temples and lakes. Changing light and assigned zones keep each outing different—watch for pugmarks, alarm calls and ripples at the water’s edge.

Glide on a dawn boat ride past the ghats of Varanasi, where saffron-clad priests lead puja and pilgrims descend to the holy waters of the Ganges. Oars slice the mist as the river reflects flame, marigolds and ash-gray stone.

Your guide explains sacred geography and customs as life unfolds along Dashashwamedh and, from a respectful distance, Manikarnika’s cremation ghat. The chorus of temple bells and conch shells sets a contemplative cadence to this age-old river ritual.

Visit a local textiles workshop for a live block-printing demonstration, watch intricate bandhani tie-dye, and see handloom weaving in action. Observe patterns drying in the sun and handle sample swatches to appreciate the region’s distinctive weights and textures.

Hear how Mughal floral motifs and natural indigo shaped Jaipur’s craft heritage around Sanganer and Bagru. You may browse the workshop store for thoughtfully made pieces, directly supporting artisan families and time-honoured techniques.

Travel to Sarnath to stand before the towering Dhamek Stupa, marking the site of the first sermon of the Buddha in the Deer Park. Wander peaceful lawns and the ruins of monasteries that once welcomed pilgrims from across Asia.

Explore the Archaeological Museum to view graceful Gupta sculpture and the Ashokan Lion Capital, now India’s national emblem. This experience is at additional cost and bookable with your tour leader during your time in Varanasi.

Join a guided highlights tour encompassing Jama Masjid and a stroll through the spice-scented lanes of Chandni Chowk to Raj Ghat, before a panoramic drive past India Gate and the colonial-era Secretariat buildings.

Step inside Humayun’s Tomb, the Persian-inspired precursor to the Taj, as your guide traces Delhi’s story from Mughal grandeur to modern nationhood. This optional experience is at additional cost and can be booked on tour.

Join a guided city tour of Jaipur to see Jantar Mantar, the honeycombed Hawa Mahal, and hilltop Amber Fort overlooking Maota Lake. Read colossal sundials, admire latticed windows crafted for royal seclusion, and wander atmospheric courtyards framed by rose-pink facades.

Built by astronomer-king Sawai Jai Singh II, Jantar Mantar houses precise stone instruments, including the world’s largest sundial. The 18th-century Hawa Mahal glows at midday, while Amber’s mirrored chambers and frescoed gateways showcase Rajput artistry and commanding views of the Aravalli hills.
