Trafalgar

Meet your Travel Director and fellow travellers over dinner in Berlin. It is a relaxed introduction to the group and an opportunity to share what draws you to Germany’s capital.

Berlin’s history and contemporary culture give the conversation plenty of starting points, from its Cold War legacy to its neighbourhoods. The meal offers a welcoming setting for the journey ahead, rather than a formal sightseeing event.

Explore the Berlin Wall Memorial on Bernauer Strasse with a guide, examining preserved sections of the Wall and the former border strip. See how barriers and surveillance divided an ordinary city street.

Bernauer Strasse became a defining site of Berlin’s division as homes, neighbours and families were separated by the border. The memorial places individual stories alongside the physical remains, offering a tangible understanding of life in a divided city.

Join a Local Specialist for a sightseeing tour of Berlin’s best-known landmarks. See the Brandenburg Gate and Unter den Linden, alongside the Tiergarten and the neo-Renaissance Reichstag.

These places trace different chapters of the capital’s past, from Prussian ceremony to German reunification. Local commentary helps connect the grand avenues and public buildings with the political changes that have shaped modern Berlin.

Walk through Dresden’s historic centre and admire the Semper Opera, Zwinger Palace and Frauenkirche. Their ornate facades show why this city on the Elbe is associated with Baroque splendour.

Hear how Dresden was painstakingly restored following the destruction of World War II. The reconstructed Frauenkirche is a particularly visible expression of that work, giving this sightseeing experience a story of renewal as well as architectural beauty.

Walk the vineyard terraces at Weingut Aust in Saxony’s wine country and visit the historic cellar where the estate’s wines are made. Settle in for a hosted dinner of regional specialities paired with estate Rieslings.

Hear how generations of the Aust family shaped this working winery. The setting brings Saxony’s winemaking traditions into focus through its vines, cellar and food, with time to learn directly about the estate.

Visit the open-air museum in Modlareuth, a village once divided between East and West Germany. See a surviving section of the border wall and its security features while learning what separation meant for local residents.

Nicknamed “Little Berlin”, Modlareuth reveals how the Iron Curtain affected communities far beyond the capital. Its preserved border installations make a national history strikingly local and visible.

Explore Nuremberg’s historic centre, seeing the mighty castle ramparts and standing in the Hauptmarkt beneath the Frauenkirche. This orientation introduces the streets and landmarks at the heart of the Franconian city.

Nuremberg was once an important centre of the Holy Roman Empire. Its fortified skyline and Gothic church offer a sense of that medieval prominence, while the market square remains a focal point of city life.

Stroll through Rothenburg ob der Tauber’s cobbled lanes inside its medieval walls. Admire colourful half-timbered houses, the market square and the Old Town Hall as you explore this well-preserved Franconian town.

Rothenburg’s compact streets and surviving fortifications make its medieval layout easy to appreciate on foot. Look beyond the storybook facades to the details of a town whose historic centre has retained a distinctive sense of place.

Visit a Black Forest cuckoo clock workshop to watch skilled artisans demonstrate a regional craft. See how decorative carving and clockmaking come together to produce the familiar call of the cuckoo.

Cuckoo clocks have long been associated with the Black Forest’s woodworking traditions. Observing the work up close reveals the skill behind an object often seen simply as a souvenir and offers a more personal connection to the region’s craft heritage.

Meet a local expert at Hofgut Sternen, a historic estate at the entrance to the Black Forest’s Ravenna Gorge. Learn how the property uses its own energy plant and regional natural resources as part of its approach to conservation.

A former coach stop that has welcomed travellers for centuries, Hofgut Sternen connects longstanding hospitality with present-day environmental practice. This MAKE TRAVEL MATTER® Experience supports the protection of life on land.

Discover central Munich with your Travel Director, seeing Marienplatz and its neo-Gothic Town Hall, the Cathedral of Our Lady and St. Peter’s Church. The orientation also takes in landmarks including the Munich Residenz, State Opera House and Hofbräuhaus.

These sights bring together Bavaria’s royal, religious and social traditions. From the cathedral’s distinctive towers to the busy squares and beer halls, the experience introduces the character of the Bavarian capital.

Explore more of Dresden’s historic streets on an optional experience focused on the city’s architecture and stories. It offers a chance to look beyond the principal landmarks and spend more time with the character of the old centre.

Dresden’s restored streets reveal layers of Saxon cultural history alongside the continuing story of post-war reconstruction. This experience is at additional cost and bookable on tour; the specific route and sights may vary.
