Additional information
Athens Welcome Gathering
Meet your Travel Director and fellow travellers in Athens at the start of your small-group journey through Greece. This hosted gathering gives you a chance to put names to faces and hear what to expect from the days ahead.
It is a relaxed introduction to the group, with conversation shaped by the places you are about to explore: ancient sanctuaries, mountain monasteries and towns whose streets still carry traces of Greece’s long history.
Athens Acropolis & Classical City Sightseeing
Climb the Acropolis with a Local Specialist to see the Parthenon above the rooftops of Athens. Explore the city’s classical landmarks, including the Panathenaic Stadium, the Temple of Olympian Zeus and Hadrian’s Arch.
At the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, watch the Evzones’ ceremonial changing of the guard. The experience also includes a sweet stop at Vryssaki Art Cafe, where the terrace frames a view of the Acropolis above the surrounding streets.
Corinth Canal Viewpoint
Look down into the Corinth Canal, where a narrow strip of water runs between steep rock walls. The viewpoint reveals the scale of the cut through the Isthmus of Corinth and offers a striking contrast between the water far below and the dry terrain above.
Completed in the late 19th century, the canal created a passage between the Gulf of Corinth and the Saronic Gulf. Seeing it from above makes its engineering ambition especially clear.
Mycenae Archaeological Site
Explore Mycenae with a Local Specialist, walking through the Lion Gate and among the remains of a Bronze Age citadel. See its immense stone walls and royal tombs while hearing the stories of kings and dynasties associated with this ancient centre of power.
Mycenae flourished more than three millennia ago. Its monumental masonry later seemed so extraordinary that ancient Greeks attributed it to giants, giving rise to the name “Cyclopean walls”.
Axion Esti Organic Beekeeping Experience
Suit up to visit working hives at Axion Esti, a family-run organic beekeeping facility. Meet Sophia and Anthony, listen to the hum of the colony and explore the beekeeping museum before you taste honey at the source.
This hands-on visit connects a familiar Greek food with the work behind it. Learn how bees support surrounding ecosystems through pollination and how the family’s approach to beekeeping helps protect that relationship.
Delphi Sacred Way & Temple of Apollo
Walk Delphi’s Sacred Way with a Local Specialist, climbing through the hillside sanctuary past the Athenian Treasury and Polygonal Wall towards the Temple of Apollo. Olive groves spread across the valley below, framed by the mountains around the ancient site.
Pilgrims travelled here to consult the Oracle of Delphi. Your specialist also brings the Pythian Games into focus, when athletes, musicians and poets gathered at this sanctuary to compete in Apollo’s honour.
Thermopylae Historic Viewpoint
Survey the battlefield of Thermopylae beneath the slopes of Mount Kallidromos. Look across the broad plain and consider the landscape where King Leonidas and his Spartan-led force confronted a much larger Persian army in 480 BCE.
In antiquity, mountain and sea formed a much narrower passage here than the one visible today. The stop gives physical context to a battle whose setting was central to the defenders’ strategy and lasting story.
Meteora Monastery Visit
Visit one of Meteora’s historic monasteries with a Local Specialist, travelling among sandstone pillars that rise steeply above Kalambaka. Step through the monastery’s stone-built spaces and take in the views from a height that once made access a formidable undertaking.
Monastic communities established retreats on these rocks from the 14th century. Hear how monks and supplies were once raised by rope and ladder, and see how architecture and the dramatic landscape remain closely intertwined.
Nafplio Landmarks & Family-Run Restaurant Dinner
Discover Nafplio’s historic landmarks on an optional outing that takes in views towards hilltop Palamidi Castle, Bourtzi Fortress in the harbour and the Sleeping Lion carved into rock. Share dinner at a family-run local restaurant.
Nafplio’s neoclassical streets and waterfront reflect its period as the first capital of independent Greece. This experience combines the town’s layered history with a sociable meal. It is at additional cost and bookable on tour.
Hosted Local Lunch near Delphi
Take your seat for a hosted lunch at a local restaurant during your time near Delphi. Pass plates around the table and share a meal with fellow travellers in a setting shaped by the rhythms of Greek hospitality.
The appeal is as much in the company as the food: a chance to pause, talk and experience the convivial style of a shared table. This optional hosted meal is at additional cost and bookable on tour.
Athens Taverna Evening
Gather at an Athens taverna for an optional evening of traditional Greek dishes, drinks and conversation with fellow travellers. Music and dancing may draw guests onto the floor, adding a lively note to the shared meal.
Tavernas are gathering places as well as places to eat, with food passed around the table and time set aside to enjoy one another’s company. This evening experience is at additional cost and bookable on tour.
