Athens Welcome Dinner
Meet your Travel Director and fellow travellers over a hosted dinner in Athens, with local cuisine offering an introduction to Greek flavours. It is a chance to share a table and get acquainted at the start of the journey.
Greek dining places as much value on conversation as on the food itself. Enjoy the convivial atmosphere of the capital while your Travel Director helps set the scene for the places and traditions you will encounter.
Athens Guided Sightseeing & the Acropolis
Explore Athens with a Local Expert, taking in Syntagma Square, the Temple of Olympian Zeus, the Panathenaic Stadium and Hadrian’s Arch. Ascend the Acropolis to stand beneath the Parthenon and see the Temple of Athena Nike and the Erechtheion’s carved caryatids.
The Parthenon dates from the fifth century BC, when Athens was a centre of art and civic life. Hadrian’s Arch, built in AD 131, speaks to the city’s later Roman chapter; together, these landmarks reveal the layers of its ancient history.
Santorini Sunset Cocktail
Raise a cocktail with your fellow travellers while watching sunset over Santorini’s caldera and the Aegean Sea. Whitewashed settlements trace the cliffs as the light changes across the water and the island’s volcanic rim.
The caldera gives Santorini its distinctive crescent shape and steep coastal views. This hosted gathering pairs one of the island’s defining landscapes with a relaxed opportunity to share impressions of Greece over a drink.
Santorini Volcanic Geology with a Local Expert
Meet a local geology expert to discover how volcanic activity shaped Santorini’s cliffs, islands and dramatic caldera. Learn to read the landscape behind the views, from the island’s layered rock to the sea-filled basin at its centre.
A major eruption in the second millennium BC transformed the ancient island and left a lasting mark on the Aegean. The expert’s insight adds a deeper perspective to scenery that is often admired simply for its colour and scale.
Mykonos Town Walk & Island Specialities Tasting
Walk Mykonos Town with a Local Expert through narrow, whitewashed lanes towards the windmills and Little Venice. Discover the island’s Cycladic architecture and lively street life, then enjoy a light tasting of traditional Mykonian appetisers.
Sample local cheeses, olive oil, breads and seasonal bites while learning how these ingredients feature in everyday island cooking. The pairing of a guided town walk and food tasting brings Mykonos’s familiar postcard scenes into closer contact with local life.
Mykonos Traditional Caique Cruise
Board a traditional caique with a Greek captain for a cruise along the Mykonos coast. View Little Venice from the water and, weather permitting, look back towards the island’s iconic windmills as the captain shares insights into life on Mykonos.
Small traditional boats have long been part of the Aegean’s maritime culture. Seeing the waterfront from the sea offers a different perspective on the houses that appear to rise directly from the shore.
Athens Farewell Dinner
Gather with your fellow travellers for a farewell dinner at a local Athens restaurant. Enjoy Greek food and raise a toast to the shared experiences of the capital and the islands.
A meal together is a fitting close to a journey shaped by ancient sites, volcanic landscapes and Aegean island life. The evening offers time to exchange stories around the table in the city where the tour began.
Cape Sounion & the Temple of Poseidon
Visit Cape Sounion and the Temple of Poseidon on an optional excursion from Athens. Set above the sea at the southern tip of Attica, the surviving Doric columns frame broad views across the Saronic Gulf and Aegean.
The fifth-century BC temple honoured Poseidon, god of the sea, at a headland once visible to sailors approaching Attica. This experience is at additional cost and bookable on tour.
Athens Turtle Sanctuary Conservation Experience
Visit a turtle sanctuary supporting local conservation on an optional MAKE TRAVEL MATTER® Experience during your time in Athens. Learn about the work involved in protecting turtles and the challenges they face in Greece’s coastal environment.
This visit offers a conservation-focused alternative to conventional sightseeing, connecting travellers with efforts to care for local wildlife. The experience is at additional cost and bookable on tour.
Traditional Greek Taverna Evening
Spend an evening at a traditional Greek taverna in Athens, enjoying a meal accompanied by music and entertainment. The setting offers a lively way to experience Greek hospitality beyond the city’s ancient landmarks.
Tavernas are places for lingering over food, conversation and song; this organised evening brings those elements together for travellers seeking a social night out. It is at additional cost and bookable on tour.
Dinner in Athens’ Psiri District
Dine in Athens’ lively Psiri district on an optional evening experience. Discover a neighbourhood known for its restaurants and animated streets while enjoying dinner away from the capital’s principal sightseeing sites.
Psiri’s mix of older streets and contemporary dining gives the meal a distinctly urban atmosphere. It is an alternative to the traditional taverna evening for travellers who would prefer to explore Athens through one of its restaurant neighbourhoods. This experience is at additional cost and bookable on tour.
