Contiki

Stop in Ioannina to admire Lake Pamvotis and learn about the history associated with Agios Panteleimon Monastery. The lake and its island are closely tied to the city’s identity and offer a quieter perspective on this part of Epirus.

Ioannina’s history reflects centuries of Byzantine and Ottoman influence. Hearing the story of the monastery adds context to the lakeside setting without requiring a full-day city tour; entry to the monastery is not specified.

Discover the coastal town of Parga, with its colourful streets, waterfront cafés and hillside setting beside the Ionian Sea. The planned stop gives you time to take in the harbour and explore the town’s compact centre at your own pace.

Parga’s Venetian-era connections remain part of its character, particularly in the fortress overlooking the bay. Its mix of seaside life and layered history makes this more than a roadside pause; lunch is at your own expense.

Walk through the vines at family-run Palivou Estate in Nemea, tour the winery and visit its barrel cellar. Finish with a guided tasting of estate wines made from native Greek and international grape varieties.

Nemea has a winemaking history stretching back millennia and is especially associated with the red Agiorgitiko grape. Seeing the organically farmed vineyards and oak-lined ageing cellar connects the region’s long heritage with the work of a contemporary producer.

Learn to make Greek classics in an optional cooking class in Athens. Get hands-on with familiar dishes and pick up techniques you can take home, rather than only tasting local food in a restaurant.

Greek cooking draws on olive oil, herbs, seasonal produce and recipes shared across generations. This class offers a closer look at those everyday food traditions. It is at additional cost and bookable on tour.

Raft the Voidomatis River on a beginner-friendly trip through Vikos–Aoos National Park. Float past plane trees and old monastery ruins, and travel beneath the Klidonia stone bridge as the clear river winds through the Zagori landscape.

The Voidomatis is known for its cold, remarkably clear water, fed by springs in the mountains of Epirus. This optional outing offers a different view of the region’s natural scenery and is at additional cost and bookable on tour.

Explore Athens on an orientation walk through its ancient-meets-modern streets, including the cobbled lanes of Plaka. Visit the Acropolis, the hilltop citadel that has shaped the city’s skyline for centuries.

See the setting of the Parthenon and other monuments associated with classical Athens. Plaka’s cafés and neoclassical buildings offer a lively contrast to the ancient stone above, making this a useful introduction to the city as well as its best-known landmark.

Visit a family-run beekeeping business near Delphi to see bees at work and learn how honey is produced. Discover the role these pollinators play in the local environment and hear how beekeepers care for their hives.

Beekeeping has roots reaching back to ancient Greece, when honey was valued as both a food and a ritual offering. This close-up encounter brings a longstanding rural tradition to life in the landscape around Delphi.

Explore Meteora’s monastery landscape, where centuries-old religious buildings stand atop immense sandstone pillars above the Thessalian plain. Take in the cliff-top views and the striking contrast between sheer rock and carefully built stone walls.

Monastic communities began settling on these heights in the medieval period, seeking solitude and protection. The surviving monasteries and dramatic scenery form a UNESCO-listed cultural landscape unlike any other in Greece.

Visit the archaeological site of Delphi at your own pace, choosing to explore the ancient sanctuary while in the town. Set on the slopes of Mount Parnassus, its remains occupy one of Greece’s most evocative mountain settings.

Delphi was renowned across the ancient Greek world for the Oracle of Apollo, whose pronouncements drew visitors from far beyond the region. This independent visit is at additional cost; ask your Trip Manager on tour about arranging entry.

Hike from Vitsa to Kipoi with a Local Guide, following old footpaths through Zagori’s mountain landscape. The route passes the Vitsa Steps, Misios Bridge and traditional arched stone bridges, revealing how neighbouring villages were once connected on foot.

Zagori’s stonework reflects generations of local craftsmanship adapted to steep terrain and river crossings. Finish with a relaxed glass of tsipouro, Greece’s grape-based spirit, and conversation. The guided hike is at additional cost and bookable on tour.

Take a RIB boat tour from Paleokastritsa along Corfu’s northwest coast, viewing the island’s rocky shoreline from the water. The outing also includes a stop at the Mavromatis Kumquat Factory to taste products made with Corfu’s signature citrus fruit.

Paleokastritsa is known for its sheltered bays and clear Ionian water, while kumquats have become a distinctive part of Corfu’s food culture. Combining coast and tasting makes this optional experience at additional cost and bookable on tour.

Enjoy a farm-to-table lunch near Olympia, featuring a homemade meal prepared with produce fresh from the land and served with a glass of red wine. The setting offers a chance to sit down to a locally rooted meal rather than a quick stop in town.

Food is an everyday expression of Greek hospitality, particularly in rural communities where seasonal ingredients shape the table. This optional lunch takes place around ten minutes from Olympia and is at additional cost and bookable on tour.
