Departure.

On arrival, transfer by coach into Lima. Afternoon visit: Presidential Palace, Plaza de Armas and San Francisco Church in the UNESCO-listed historic centre.

Fly to Cusco and continue to the Urubamba (Sacred) Valley to stay two nights at lower altitude.

Sacred Valley day: visit Pisac’s indigenous market; included lunch; visit the hillside Inca fortress at Ollantaytambo.

Scenic Explorer train through the Urubamba Gorge to Machu Picchu for a guided visit. Return by train to the Sacred Valley, then drive to Cusco.

Cusco city tour: main square and cathedral; visit Qorichancha (Temple of the Sun). Afternoon free.

Fly via Lima to Buenos Aires, arriving late afternoon.

Excursion to Estancia Santa Susana on the Pampas: ranch visit and gaucho horsemanship. Included barbecue lunch with local music and dance.

Buenos Aires city tour: Plaza de Mayo and the pink Presidential Palace, San Telmo, La Boca and Recoleta Cemetery (Eva Perón). Evening tango show with dinner included.

Short flight to Iguazu. Afternoon visit to the Brazilian side of the falls.

Explore the Argentinian side: multiple viewpoints including Devil’s Throat, boardwalks and the open-sided ‘jungle train’. Optional jetboat ride to the foot of the falls.

Afternoon flight to Rio de Janeiro for a three-night stay with breakfast at the hotel.

Visit Christ the Redeemer via cog railway through Tijuca National Park. Walk in the Botanical Gardens. Included lunch of Brazilian barbecued meats (vegetarian option available).

Ride the two-stage cable car up Sugarloaf Mountain. Tour through central Rio and included lunch at Confeitaria Colombo.

Return home.
