Insight Vacations

Share a Swiss welcome dinner with your Travel Director and fellow travellers in Geneva. In a cosy restaurant, enjoy local specialities including cheese fondue, traditionally eaten by dipping pieces of bread into a pot of melted cheese.

Fondue is closely associated with Switzerland’s Alpine food culture, where cheese has long been a practical and prized staple. The shared pot makes this a sociable introduction to the country and the people travelling with you.

Explore Geneva with your Travel Director and see the Jet d’Eau, the fountain that sends a plume of water high above Lake Geneva. In the lakeside gardens, admire the Floral Clock, planted with seasonal flowers in a nod to the city’s watchmaking heritage.

These two landmarks capture different sides of Geneva: its open waterfront and its tradition of precision craftsmanship. Garden paths and lake views give you a close look at the city’s elegant public spaces.

Discover Montreux with your Travel Director on the shores of Lake Geneva. Get your bearings in this resort town, known for its lakeside promenade, flower-filled planting and views across the water towards the mountains.

Montreux’s mild lakeside setting has drawn visitors for generations, giving its waterfront a distinctly relaxed character. The orientation introduces the town and its Alpine backdrop, with time to appreciate the scenery from the promenade at your own pace.

Step inside Chillon Castle, a lakeside fortress near Montreux, for a hosted tour with the Head of Collections. Discover artefacts and rooms that illuminate the château’s history as a residence of the Dukes of Savoy and a stronghold beside a key Alpine route.

Its stone chambers and waterside setting also inspired Lord Byron’s poem “The Prisoner of Chillon”. Look out for the place where the writer is said to have left his mark.

Ride a Matterhorn Gotthard Railway shuttle train to Zermatt, the traffic-free Alpine resort beneath the Matterhorn. Explore the village with your Travel Director, passing traditional wooden chalets and taking in views of the surrounding peaks.

With cars kept out of the village, Zermatt’s mountain setting feels especially close. In clear weather, look for the Matterhorn’s distinctive triangular summit above the rooftops—one of Switzerland’s most recognisable landscapes.

Explore lakeside Lugano with your Travel Director and discover the Italian-speaking character of southern Switzerland. Take in the city’s waterfront setting, where Lake Lugano lies between steep, green hills and the streets have a distinctly Mediterranean feel.

Lugano is in Ticino, Switzerland’s only canton where Italian is the sole official language. Its setting and culture offer a contrast to the high Alpine resorts, revealing another side of Swiss life.

Get to know St. Moritz with your Travel Director, including its spa quarter and glacial lake. The orientation introduces this high-altitude resort in the Engadine Valley, where mountain light and broad Alpine views frame the town.

St. Moritz grew into an internationally known destination around its mineral springs and mountain climate. Its polished resort streets and lakeshore offer a glimpse of the long tradition of Alpine travel in Switzerland’s Grisons region.

Travel by regional train along part of the Glacier Express route through the Swiss Alps. Watch for stone-built villages, green meadows and ice-capped mountains as the railway crosses the high country between St. Moritz and Chur.

Travelled on a train powered by hydroelectricity, this journey follows a route celebrated for opening up otherwise hard-to-reach Alpine scenery. Mountain views from the carriage make the ride an experience in its own right, rather than simply a way to cover distance.

Explore Vaduz, Liechtenstein’s capital, and take in the surroundings of Vaduz Castle, perched on the hillside above the town. The castle remains the residence of the principality’s royal family, so the experience focuses on its setting and exterior rather than an interior visit.

Set between the Rhine Valley and Alpine peaks, Vaduz gives you a sense of this small sovereign state’s mountain landscape. The castle’s commanding position makes it a defining feature of the capital’s skyline.

Discover Lucerne’s historic landmarks with your Travel Director. See the Lion Monument, carved into rock to commemorate Swiss Guards who died during the French Revolution, and admire the Jesuit Church beside the River Reuss.

Visit the area around Chapel Bridge, the covered wooden bridge that has become an emblem of the city. Together, these sights reveal Lucerne’s religious, civic and military history against the backdrop of its riverside old town.

Ascend Mount Stanserhorn in a solar-powered open-top cable car and take in wide views across the mountains and Lake Lucerne region. At the summit, follow scenic walking paths and watch for marmots and other native wildlife.

This MAKE TRAVEL MATTER® experience connects the mountain scenery with its living ecosystem. If available, a Swiss ranger’s conservation talk offers insight into the local plants and animals; the visit supports the UN Sustainable Development Goal focused on life on land.

Gather with your fellow travellers for a celebration dinner near Mount Stanserhorn. Share a meal and toast the friendships formed while travelling through Switzerland, in a restaurant set close to the mountain’s base.

The location brings the Alpine landscape into the evening, with views towards the Lake Lucerne region. More than a routine meal, this hosted gathering is a chance to reflect together on the villages, lakes and peaks explored across the country.

Ride the cable car from Zermatt towards the Klein Matterhorn for a high-altitude view of the surrounding Alps. On a clear day, the panorama reaches across peaks in Switzerland, Italy and France, with snow and glaciers visible around the mountain station.

The Klein Matterhorn is a striking vantage point in the Matterhorn region, offering a very different perspective from the village below. This optional experience is at additional cost and bookable on tour; mountain views depend on the weather.

Take a boat trip across Lake Maggiore to Isola Bella, one of the Borromean Islands in Italy. From the water, see the island’s Baroque palace and the terraced gardens that rise above the lakeshore.

Created for the Borromeo family, Isola Bella is known for its elaborate transformation from a small island into a formal lakeside estate. This optional experience is at additional cost and bookable on tour; confirm the visit details with your Travel Director.

Consider a scenic train journey over the Bernina Pass while staying in St. Moritz. This high Alpine railway offers views of mountain slopes, valleys and the stark scenery of the pass from the comfort of your carriage.

The route shows a more rugged side of the Engadine region, contrasting with St. Moritz’s lakeside resort atmosphere. This optional experience is at additional cost and bookable on tour; your Travel Director can advise on availability and the journey offered.
