Additional information
Kakslauttanen Planetarium Northern Lights Presentation
Visit the Kakslauttanen planetarium for a presentation on the aurora borealis. Learn how charged particles from the Sun interact with Earth’s magnetic field to produce shifting light in the polar sky.
The presentation also explores northern stories about the aurora, connecting the science to generations of Arctic observation. It gives you a way to understand the colours and movement you may see during your nights in Finnish Lapland.
Helsinki Orientation & Temppeliaukio Church
Explore Finland’s capital on an orientation through central Helsinki, taking in Senate Square and Helsinki Cathedral, Market Square and the Baltic waterfront. See neoclassical facades give way to harbour stalls, tramlines and ferry piers.
Step inside Temppeliaukio Church, carved directly into bedrock and crowned by a copper-lined dome. Its exposed stone walls and distinctive architecture offer a close look at Finnish design shaped by the natural landscape.
Helsinki Welcome Gathering
Meet your Travel Director and fellow travellers over a drink and small bites at the hotel in Helsinki. This hosted gathering offers a relaxed opportunity to share introductions and ask questions about travelling in Finnish Lapland.
Conversation turns to the experiences ahead, from husky trails to winter skies. It is a sociable start to the journey rather than a formal dinner, with time to settle into the group before exploring further.
Guided Northern Lights Hunt
Head into the Arctic darkness with your Travel Director on an Aurora hunt in Finnish Lapland. Look beyond the resort’s glow for movement in the sky, with snow, pine forest and open northern landscape around you.
Cloud cover and weather shape every search, and a sighting cannot be guaranteed. Even under quiet skies, the experience offers a chance to stand in the stillness of an Arctic night and learn what conditions make the lights visible.
Lapland Husky Safari
Take the reins of a husky sled team in the snowy wilderness near Kakslauttanen. Learn how to handle and brake the sled before following a packed trail, sharing the run between musher and passenger as the dogs pull through the forest.
Feel the team’s energy at the start and hear the runners skim over snow once the sled is moving. This hands-on safari offers a direct encounter with Lapland’s winter sledding tradition.
Visit to Santa’s Home
Visit Santa’s Home in the snowy surroundings of Kakslauttanen and meet Santa himself. Step inside his Lapland home, take in its festive details and spend time with one of Finland’s most familiar winter figures.
Santa’s place in Lapland’s visitor culture gives the encounter a distinctly Finnish setting. Beyond the doorway, Arctic forest and snow frame an experience designed for travellers who enjoy the warmth and playful spirit of the season.
Reindeer Sleigh Safari
Ride in a reindeer-drawn sleigh across the snowy landscape of Finnish Lapland, led by a reindeer guide. Meet the animals up close and experience the quieter pace of travel as the sleigh moves through its Arctic surroundings.
Hear about Sámi traditions linked to reindeer herding and the animals’ continuing importance in northern life. The ride brings together winter scenery and a living cultural connection to this region.
Be My Guest Lunch with Kati and Juha
Step inside the home of Kati and Juha near Ivalo for a locally hosted lunch. Share homemade Finnish soup prepared with locally sourced ingredients and hear their stories of everyday life in Lapland.
Try feather-stick crafting, a traditional wilderness skill that turns a piece of wood into fine, curling shavings, and take your creation home. Tea or coffee and a typical Finnish sweet treat round out this personal introduction to Arctic hospitality.
Night in a Kakslauttanen Glass Igloo
Sleep in a glass igloo at Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort, surrounded by snow and pine forest. From the warmth of your room, look through the curved glass roof at the Arctic sky above your bed.
The design makes sky-watching part of the stay, with a chance to spot the Northern Lights from indoors if conditions allow. Whether or not the aurora appears, the igloo offers an unusually close perspective on Lapland’s long winter nights.
Guided Cross-Country Skiing
Choose a guided cross-country skiing experience during your stay at Kakslauttanen. Glide along snowy tracks and take in Lapland’s winter landscape at a measured pace, with a guide accompanying the outing.
Cross-country skiing is a longstanding way to travel through Nordic winters, making this an active way to connect with the setting beyond the resort buildings. This Optional Experience is at additional cost and bookable on tour.
Lapland Horseback Riding Trail
Choose a guided horseback riding trail in the snowy surroundings of Kakslauttanen. Experience the Arctic landscape from the saddle, with time to notice the forest and the winter quiet at a different pace.
This outing offers an alternative to sledding and motor-powered activities while keeping the focus on Lapland’s scenery. It is an Optional Experience at additional cost and bookable on tour; ask your Travel Director for the available arrangements.
Ice Karting in Lapland
Try ice karting as an optional winter activity during your stay at Kakslauttanen. Take on a frozen course where low-grip turns make handling the kart part of the fun.
The activity puts a playful, fast-paced spin on Lapland’s icy conditions, contrasting with the quieter forest experiences elsewhere on the tour. This Optional Experience is at additional cost and bookable on tour; availability and participation details can be confirmed locally.
Lapland Snowmobiling
Choose a snowmobiling experience across frozen trails near Kakslauttanen. Travel through Lapland’s winter terrain on a motor-powered outing, with snow-covered forest and Arctic scenery surrounding the route.
Snowmobiling covers ground differently from a sleigh or skis, offering a more energetic perspective on the northern landscape. This Optional Experience is at additional cost and bookable on tour; ask locally about the available route and participation requirements.
Arctic Ice Fishing
Try ice fishing during your time in Finnish Lapland. This optional activity offers a slower encounter with the frozen landscape, centred on the patience and close attention that winter fishing demands.
Fishing through ice is a familiar cold-season practice across Finland, making the outing a way to experience the outdoors beyond the resort’s trails. It is at additional cost and bookable on tour; local arrangements and conditions determine the experience available.
