Additional information

Travel the Kancamagus Scenic Byway through New Hampshire’s White Mountain National Forest. Known locally as “The Kanc,” this 34.5-mile stretch of Route 112 offers views of wooded slopes, river valleys and mountain ridges.

The road climbs towards Kancamagus Pass and is especially sought after for its autumn foliage, when maples and other hardwoods colour the hillsides. It is a scenic experience viewed from the route, with the exact intensity of fall colour depending on the season.

Explore Boston’s revolutionary history on a city tour and walk along part of the Freedom Trail. Follow its red-brick route past Boston Common, the Massachusetts State House and Quincy Market, discovering places associated with the city’s colonial past.

The trail links landmarks central to the movement for American independence. Its historic streets offer a close-up view of how Boston’s early public spaces remain part of everyday city life.

Explore Plimoth Patuxet Museums in Plymouth, where a recreated 17th-century English settlement brings the daily lives of its residents into focus. Meet interpreters portraying colonists and learn from Patuxet interpreters about the traditions of the region’s Indigenous people.

See Mayflower II, a full-scale reproduction of the ship associated with the Pilgrims’ Atlantic crossing. Together, the exhibits present distinct perspectives on an early and consequential chapter of New England’s history.

Visit the Salt Pond Visitor Center to discover the dunes, marshes and wildlife of Cape Cod National Seashore. Views across Salt Pond introduce the coastal landscape before an excursion to Provincetown, at the tip of Cape Cod.

Browse a town known for its galleries, cafés and longstanding Portuguese fishing heritage. The journey along the Old King’s Highway adds another perspective on the Cape, with its historic communities and changing shoreline scenery.

Taste wines at family-owned Truro Vineyards, set around a historic 1830s farmhouse on Cape Cod. During this MAKE TRAVEL MATTER® Experience, learn how the vineyard approaches sustainable growing, green design and local sourcing.

A relaxed tasting invites you to notice the aromas and acidity in each glass while hearing how production choices shape the wines. It is a chance to encounter the Cape through its contemporary food-and-drink culture as well as its coastal scenery.

Visit a working cranberry bog in Massachusetts to learn how one of New England’s characteristic crops is cultivated and harvested. Discover the conditions cranberries need and the work involved in bringing the fruit from wetland fields to market.

If harvesting conditions allow, you may see flooded bogs bright with floating red berries. This seasonal sight is not guaranteed, but the visit offers a grounded look at a crop closely tied to the region’s landscape and food traditions.

Take in Newport’s 10-Mile Ocean Drive, a coastal route with views of the grand estates that made this Rhode Island city a summer retreat for wealthy American families. Look out for mansion-lined stretches against the Atlantic shoreline.

Newport’s imposing houses recall the Gilded Age, when industrial fortunes supported elaborate seaside residences. This included scenic drive offers an exterior view of that legacy; entry to The Breakers is a separate optional experience.

Visit the Bridge of Flowers in Shelburne Falls, Massachusetts, where a former trolley bridge has become a planted walkway over the Deerfield River. Take in its colourful displays and views toward the village and surrounding hills.

The bridge’s transformation from transport infrastructure into a community garden gives this small-town stop its character. Flowering varieties change through the growing season, making the crossing a distinctive place to pause and photograph the landscape.

Explore Montpelier’s streets and see Vermont’s gold-domed State House before visiting family-run Morse Farm Maple Sugarworks nearby. At the sugar house, discover a defining Vermont tradition and taste Sugar on Snow.

This local treat is made by pouring warm maple syrup over packed ice, where it cools into a chewy taffy. Surrounded by working sugarbush forest, the farm connects the flavour in your cup to the trees and seasonal craft behind it.

Explore the scenery of the White Mountains on a drive through Crawford Notch State Park, with views of the landscape around Mount Washington, the Northeast’s tallest peak. Pause at Silver Cascade Falls to watch water descend the rocky slopes of Mount Jackson.

The notch’s steep-sided terrain gives this part of New Hampshire a markedly different feel from the region’s coastal towns. In fall, changing leaves frame the mountain views and the cascade’s pale ribbons of water.

Stroll through historic downtown North Conway, a White Mountains village with restored buildings, antique shops and independent bookshops. Its compact streets offer a chance to appreciate the town beyond the surrounding mountain viewpoints.

North Conway has long welcomed visitors drawn to New Hampshire’s outdoor scenery. Browsing its older storefronts reveals the quieter side of that resort-town heritage, with local shops set against the backdrop of the Mount Washington Valley.

Visit Kennebunkport on the Maine coast, where boutiques and galleries sit amid a seaside setting shaped by New England’s maritime traditions. Discover the contrasting atmosphere of historic Portsmouth in New Hampshire, known for its surviving 18th-century buildings.

These two stops offer distinct views of the region’s coastal communities: one a lively Maine destination, the other a port city whose older streets recall centuries of trade and seafaring.

Cruise Hyannis Harbour on an optional outing that reveals Cape Cod from the water. Look out for lighthouses, Squaw Island and views towards the Kennedy Compound while enjoying the harbour’s boats and coastal scenery.

The cruise adds a maritime perspective to a place closely associated with fishing, summer holidays and the Kennedy family. This Optional Experience is at additional cost and bookable on tour; availability and views may depend on local conditions.

Step inside The Breakers, the Vanderbilt family’s monumental summer residence in Newport, on an optional visit. Its lavish interiors offer a closer look at the scale and tastes of America’s Gilded Age elite.

Built in the 1890s, the mansion stands as one of Newport’s best-known seaside estates. This visit goes beyond the exterior views on the included Ocean Drive, revealing the craftsmanship and social history within. It is at additional cost and bookable on tour.
