Cruise Amsterdam’s tree-lined canals for a water-level view of the old city. Pass narrow bridges and 17th-century canal mansions, whose ornate facades recall the wealth of the Dutch Golden Age.

The waterways form part of Amsterdam’s UNESCO-listed canal ring. Seeing the city from a boat reveals how its merchants built a capital shaped by trade, water and carefully planned streets.

Meet your Travel Director and fellow travellers over dinner with wine at a local Amsterdam restaurant. Modern European cuisine sets the scene for a sociable introduction to the journey.

Dining together offers a chance to get acquainted beyond the bustle of the city’s canals and streets. It is a hosted welcome experience, rather than an ordinary hotel meal.

Cruise the Rhine from Boppard to Sankt Goar with a glass of local wine as vineyard terraces, riverside villages and castle silhouettes pass by. Look for Burg Rheinfels, Burg Katz and Burg Maus along this storied stretch of river.

The route passes the legendary Lorelei Rock, long associated with tales of sailors drawn toward its treacherous waters. The scenery lies within the Upper Middle Rhine Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage landscape shaped by centuries of river trade.

Stand on Wurzburg’s statue-lined Alte Mainbrucke and look across the River Main toward Marienberg Fortress. The historic bridge offers a distinctive view of the city’s riverfront, hilltop stronghold and surrounding Franconian vineyards.

Wurzburg’s long wine-making heritage is closely tied to these slopes. From the bridge, its baroque cityscape and medieval defences come into focus in a single panorama; the fortress is viewed from outside rather than visited.

Explore Rothenburg ob der Tauber, a walled town on Germany’s Romantic Road. Walk among medieval gates, towers and timber-framed buildings that preserve the character of its historic centre.

Rothenburg’s ramparts and compact streets offer an unusually vivid sense of an old Franconian trading town. Its fortified skyline and cobbled lanes make the visit more than a scenic pause on the journey through Bavaria.

Explore Prague Castle with a Local Expert, walking its historic courtyards and visiting St. Vitus Cathedral. This included Insight Choice experience concentrates on the castle complex that has long served as a seat of Czech power.

Inside the cathedral, Gothic architecture expresses centuries of royal and religious history. Choose this experience instead of the Jewish Quarter visit to focus on Prague’s monumental castle district.

Walk Prague’s Jewish Quarter with a Local Expert and visit the Old-New Synagogue and historic Jewish cemetery. Hear how the community’s traditions and history have shaped the city.

The Old-New Synagogue is among Europe’s oldest active synagogues, while the cemetery’s closely set headstones speak to generations of Jewish life in Josefov. Choose this included Insight Choice experience instead of the Prague Castle and cathedral visit.

Dine aboard a Danube cruise as Budapest’s illuminated riverfront comes into view. See landmarks along the UNESCO-listed banks while enjoying dinner on the water.

The river separates Buda’s hills from Pest’s grand boulevards, with bridges linking the two sides. At night, the lights on the historic buildings give a clear sense of why Budapest is known as the Pearl of the Danube.

Travel along Andrássy Avenue to Heroes’ Square, then explore the lanes of Buda’s Old Town with a Local Expert. From Fisherman’s Bastion, look across the Danube toward Pest and the bridges joining the two halves of the city.

Andrássy Avenue’s monumental setting reflects Budapest’s late-19th-century growth. In Buda, older streets and broad river views reveal a different layer of the Hungarian capital.

Tour Budapest’s Liszt Music Academy with a student and enjoy a recital. Hear about musical study at the institution founded by pianist and composer Franz Liszt in 1875.

The visit pairs a personal perspective on the academy with a live performance, making Hungary’s classical-music heritage something to hear as well as learn about. It offers an inside look at a school closely associated with the country’s musical life.

See Vienna’s Ringstrasse on a city tour, passing landmarks including the Hofburg Imperial Residence, State Opera and Parliament Building. Join a Local Expert for a walk through the Innere Stadt, Vienna’s historic first district.

Built where the city walls once stood, the Ringstrasse displays the ambitions of the Habsburg-era capital. The walk brings that grand architecture into conversation with the older streets at Vienna’s core.

Enjoy traditional coffee and cake in a cosy Vienna café, with time to sit and mingle with locals. The experience offers a taste of the city’s enduring coffeehouse culture rather than a routine meal stop.

Viennese cafés have long been places for conversation, reading and lingering over a drink. This café’s welcoming, community-minded setting gives the custom a personal dimension alongside its carefully made treats.

Sip a cocktail near Piazza San Marco while an ensemble plays, and stroll past the Doge’s Palace and Bridge of Sighs. Enjoy a Venetian dinner with wine at a restaurant in the historic centre.

The palace recalls the former republic’s political power, while the bridge once connected it to the prisons. Music, stone facades and an evening meal give this hosted experience a distinctly Venetian setting.

Travel by boat along the Giudecca Canal as your Travel Director introduces Venice from the water. Pass historic palazzi and see the Doge’s Palace and St. Mark’s Square come into view.

Explore St. Mark’s Square, where the Basilica, Clock Tower and Campanile frame Venice’s ceremonial heart. Approaching by water highlights the city’s relationship with its lagoon; the square visit brings its principal landmarks into closer view from outside.

Watch skilled artisans demonstrate glassblowing at a traditional Venetian workshop. See how heated glass is shaped into delicate handmade pieces and learn about the techniques behind the craft.

Venice’s glassmaking traditions reach back centuries, with the craft especially associated with the lagoon island of Murano. Watching a maker work at the furnace reveals the precision needed to preserve these specialised skills.

Cruise through the heart of Prague for a different perspective on the city’s bridges and historic skyline. From the water, the Vltava places the castle district and riverside architecture within the wider cityscape.

This suggested cruise is an optional experience at additional cost, bookable on tour. It is separate from the included Insight Choice visits and offers a relaxed way to appreciate Prague’s setting from the river.

Join a private tour of Schonbrunn Palace and its formal gardens, the former Habsburg summer residence associated with Empress Maria Theresa. Explore the imperial setting and its carefully ordered grounds.

Schonbrunn reflects the scale and ceremony of the Austrian court, from palace interiors to landscaped gardens. This optional experience is at additional cost and bookable on tour; it offers a closer look at Habsburg life beyond Vienna’s central landmarks.

Cruise across the Venetian lagoon to Burano for a suggested meal of local specialities and wine. The island is known for its brightly painted houses, canals and long tradition of lace-making.

Burano’s quieter streets offer a contrast to central Venice, while dinner brings the lagoon’s food traditions into the experience. This is an optional outing at additional cost, bookable on tour, subject to the arrangements offered by your Travel Director.
