Imperial War Museum Duxford: Battle of Britain Air Show & Hangars
On day 2 after breakfast, travel to Imperial War Museum Duxford, the former RAF fighter base where No. 19 Squadron pioneered operational Spitfires. Before the flying begins, explore the historic hangars and exhibitions, from the British-focused AirSpace collection to the dramatic American Air Museum. Encounter impeccably restored aircraft and personal stories that bring the airfield’s wartime urgency into sharp focus.
In the early afternoon, take your place for the Battle of Britain Air Show. Hear the Merlin engines build to a growl, watch precision formations, and witness evocative dogfight sequences culminating in a moving mass Spitfire flypast. This is aviation heritage experienced through sight, sound and speed—an invitation to pause for photos and reflection before departing in the late afternoon.
Hotel Dinner & Evening at Leisure
After your time in Cambridge on day 1, settle into your selected hotel and sit down to a hearty dinner. The evening is yours to unwind—perhaps raise a glass in the hotel bar, share stories from the day, or enjoy a quiet stroll nearby if time and location permit.
These relaxed hours create the calm cadence of a short break: a chance to enjoy a free evening and rest before the excitement of Duxford. In the morning, breakfast is included, setting you up for a full day among icons of aviation history.
Punting on the River Cam
Make the most of your Cambridge visit on day 1 with an optional chauffeured punting tour on the River Cam. Recline in a traditional wooden punt as your guide gently poles you past the collegiate lawns of the Backs, offering stories of scholars and traditions that shaped the university.
Glide beneath elegant bridges—the Mathematical Bridge and the picturesque Bridge of Sighs—while willows trail the water and the city’s spires rise beyond. It’s a serene way to soak in the riverside atmosphere and see the colleges from their most photogenic angle. This experience is at additional cost and bookable on tour, subject to availability and weather conditions.
