Swiss food blends Alpine heartiness and refined European flair, influenced by the cuisines of France, Germany and Italy. Think creamy cheeses, rich chocolates, and warming fondues alongside crisp rosti and delicate pastries.

Please let us know of any dietary requirements you have at least two weeks before the trip starts. Most requirements can be catered for, but halal and kosher dishes are rarely found in this part of the world.

Savour a traditional raclette lunch in the characterful rooms of Château de Villa, where wheels of Valais cheese are warmed and slow-melted before being served with potatoes, pickles, and crusty bread. The ritual is convivial, aromatic, and distinctly Alpine.

Discover how mountain pastures and cellar maturation give raclette its supple texture and nutty depth. Local wines complement the cheese’s richness, revealing a dialogue between vineyard and dairy that defines Valais gastronomy.

Cruise Lake Lucerne past Rigi and Pilatus on stately decks, watching chalets and meadows slip by, before boarding the Gotthard Panorama Express for a first-class journey to Ticino. Settle into a panoramic carriage as mountain walls rise and valleys deepen toward the Italian-speaking south.

Trace the 19th-century engineering triumph of the Gotthard route, spiralling through tunnels with repeated views of Wassen’s church and dramatic gorges. The shift from northern lakescapes to palm-dotted shores frames Switzerland’s cultural mosaic in one artfully choreographed ride.

Join a guided walking tour through Lucerne’s frescoed squares and lakeside promenades to see the timbered Chapel Bridge with its Water Tower, the poignant Lion Monument, and the elegant Jesuit Church. Hear local stories while admiring guild houses and arcaded streets framed by Alpine peaks.

Learn how the 14th-century Kapellbrucke once guarded river trade, how the Lion commemorates Swiss Guards lost in 1792, and how baroque Jesuitkirche signalled the Counter-Reformation. The city’s blend of lake light, church bells, and painted gables reveals a quintessential Swiss atmosphere.

Explore a working chocolatier near Lucerne to learn the artistry of Swiss chocolate, guided by specialists through aroma, texture, and tempering. Taste curated samples from different cacao origins, note flavor nuances, and create a bespoke bar to take home, crafted in your preferred mold and toppings.

Uncover how Alpine dairy and the conching perfected by Rodolphe Lindt shaped Switzerland’s reputation for silky, balanced chocolate. From the snap of a well-tempered slab to the perfume of roasted cocoa, this hands-on session celebrates precision and indulgence in equal measure.

Ride the Centovalli Railway across the “Hundred Valleys,” where chestnut forests, waterfalls, and slate-roofed hamlets unfold between arcing viaducts and deep ravines. Wide windows turn each bend into a new Alpine tableau rich in texture and color.

Opened in the early 20th century to link Ticino with Italy’s Ossola Valley, this narrow-gauge line feels purpose-built for photographers. Autumn golds, spring greens, or winter’s graphite palette reveal a quieter side of the Alps, where stone villages cling to contours etched by time.

Walk an easy village path to pass chestnut forests and vineyards before arriving at a family-run farm. Meet a local farmer to learn how terraces, microclimates, and seasonal rhythms shape produce in Switzerland’s Italian-speaking canton, then relax into a countryside pace.

Share a rustic spread of polenta, garden fare, and a glass of regional wine as you explore living rural traditions of Ticino. Conversation drifts from hillside cultivation to time-honoured recipes, celebrating a landscape where Alpine and Mediterranean influences mingle.

Ride the cable car to Bettmerhorn’s high terrace and gaze across the Aletsch Glacier, the Alps’ longest river of ice, curving through a granite amphitheatre. The silence of high altitude and the sweep of seracs invite pause for photos and reflection.

Step into the Glacier World exhibition to decode crevasses, moraines, and the slow choreography of glacial movement within the UNESCO-listed Jungfrau-Aletsch region. Geology, climate, and human paths through the Oberland converge in a rare, commanding viewpoint.

Visit Chillon Castle, a storybook, lake-lapped fortress set on a rocky islet near Montreux. Wander courtyards, great halls, and timbered rooms while soaking up views across the water to the Alps and the flower-trimmed Riviera.

Once a toll-point of the Counts of Savoy guarding the Via Francigena, Chillon’s dungeons inspired Byron’s famed verses, while painted beams and armour evoke medieval power and pageantry. The castle’s stone walls meet mirrored lake light in a uniquely romantic setting.

Explore the Lavaux vineyards, a mosaic of terraces stepping down to Lake Geneva, and visit a local winery for a guided tasting. Discuss soils, slopes, and lake breezes with your host as glasses capture alpine light and crystalline aromas.

Shaped since the 12th century by monastic stewardship and sun-warmed stone walls, this UNESCO-listed landscape showcases fresh, mineral-driven whites and graceful reds. Sipping among vines with sweeping lake-and-Alps views distils the essence of the Montreux Riviera.

Meet your fellow travellers and meet your Tour Director over a convivial three-course welcome dinner in Zurich. Settle into the rhythm of Swiss hospitality as you share first impressions and trip expectations in the atmospheric lanes of the Altstadt (Old Town), where guild houses and riverside views set a refined backdrop.
