Additional information

Sample regional wines at the vineyard estate of Château des Trois Sautet, learning how limestone soils and the Mistral winds shape Provencal styles. A guided tasting introduces fresh, aromatic whites and supple reds that reflect the season’s sun and shade.

Walk the rows, glass in hand, as your host explains grape varieties and cellar choices that define balance and texture. It’s an engaging, sensory primer on terroir set amid vines and low hills outside Aix.

Join a guided stroll through Forcalquier’s cobbled lanes to the lively weekly market, where you’ll peruse traditional food stalls, chat with cheesemakers and bakers, and sample regional produce. Gather breads, olives and fruit for a relaxed picnic of market finds in a scenic spot.

Learn how this centuries-old fair knit together Alpine pastures and Mediterranean orchards, giving rise to today’s abundance—goat cheeses, honey, heirloom vegetables and herbs. The market’s chorus of accents and aromas offers a vivid first taste of Provence’s rhythms.

Walk panoramic trails around the perched village of Lurs, following age-old paths bordered by dry-stone walls and silvery olive terraces. Pause at overlooks to take in Durance valley views, the Luberon ridgeline and, on clear days, the distant Alps.

Hear how Lurs grew around monastic estates and pilgrim routes, its Romanesque lanes preserved in quiet stone. Mediterranean scents—thyme, juniper and pine—set the pace as you enjoy a gentle, scenic immersion in Haute-Provence countryside.

Explore the ochre canyons of the Colorado Provencal on a short, photogenic hike past rust-red cliffs and chimney stacks sculpted by wind and water. The palette shifts from saffron to vermilion, inviting unhurried stops for photos and quiet contemplation.

Once a hub of former ochre quarries, Rustrel supplied pigments that colored Provencal facades and artists’ palettes in the 19th and 20th centuries. Learn how geology, mining and craft shaped this surreal landscape now returned to nature.

Walk the Luberon hilltop villages—Banon, Lourmarin and Bonnieux—through lanes lined with limestone houses and shaded squares. In Bonnieux, ascend from the lower church to the upper terraces for panoramic views toward Mont Ventoux and the Calavon valley.

Meet a local producer to sample Banon AOP goat’s cheese, traditionally wrapped in chestnut leaves. Between tastings, admire Lourmarin’s Renaissance charm and Bonnieux’s timeworn steps—an elegant blend of architecture, agriculture and village life.

Visit Les Grandes Marges farm on the Valensole plateau, meeting the Jaubert family for a guided amble among century-old olives. Walk among olive trees, learn about pressing methods, and enjoy a wine tasting that speaks of sun, stone and Mistral winds.

In season, smell lavender essential oil distilled from fields that bloom mid-June to mid-July. This fourth-generation estate blends craft and landscape, revealing Provence through scent, flavor and patient cultivation.

Stroll Sisteron’s old town, a riverside maze of pale-stone houses beneath a citadel-crowned skyline. Lanes open to viewpoints over the Durance narrows and the dramatic folds of the Rock of La Baume, perfect for photos and a moment’s pause.

The route typically passes the striking columns of Les Pénitents des Mées, whose legend and geology shape village lore. Hear how Sisteron guarded the Alpine gateway to Provence, its defenses and bridges controlling the river corridor for centuries.

Join a guided city tour through Avignon’s medieval streets, skirting age-old ramparts and lively squares before pausing at Les Halles covered market. Browse Provencal herbs, charcuterie and patisserie, or pick a spot for lunch amid the bustle.

Set on the Rhône and famed as the City of Popes, Avignon blends sacred grandeur with café culture. Your guide weaves history with local life, pointing out vistas toward the legendary bridge and tranquil gardens above the old town.

Step inside the Palais des Papes, Europe’s largest Gothic palace, to wander cavernous halls and chapels built during the Avignon Papacy. Stone vaults and fortress-thick walls reveal a court where faith, power and art converged.

After the visit, make your way to the Rhône embankment to admire the truncated arches of the Pont d’Avignon (Pont Saint-Bénézet). It’s an evocative spot to pause for photos and reflection on the riverine history that shaped the city.

Enjoy a guided walk in Aix-en-Provence, following the plane trees of Cours Mirabeau past elegant mansions and terrace cafés. Slip into the old town to hear fountains murmur in Baroque courtyards and trace Cézanne’s everyday streets.

As the cultural heart of Provence, Aix pairs university energy with artisan ateliers and markets. Your guide highlights the murmur of Baroque fountains and pastel facades that make Cézanne’s hometown a study in light and limestone.

Bring the journey to a toast-worthy close with a farewell dinner in the heart of Aix. Savor seasonal Provencal recipes—perhaps aioli, ratatouille or soupe au pistou—paired with local wines as you raise a glass to shared memories and new friends.

In a city of fountains and facades, this one final convivial evening celebrates the flavors and stories gathered along the way. Expect relaxed conversation, regional specialties and a warm Au revoir to Provence.

Begin your journey by meeting your Tour Director and travelling companions over a convivial welcome dinner.
