Vineyard Ride to Chenonceaux & Château de Chenonceau
On day 3, drift south through the vine-striped hills of Montlouis-sur-Loire, pedalling between rows of chenin blanc and stone farmsteads. Quiet lanes lead into the Cher Valley until the arches of Château de Chenonceau appear, floating across the river like a bridge of lacework stone.
Here, step into the Château de Chenonceau to admire the gallery spanning the water and stroll the rival gardens of Diane de Poitiers and Catherine de Medici. Stories of courtly power play animate the salons, while the arches over the River Cher frame reflections and birdsong. Linger among clipped box and roses before a gentle roll into the village of Chenonceaux to enjoy a free afternoon at a relaxed, riverside pace.
Chambord Ride & Loire Riverbank Return to Blois
On day 5, wheel through the forests of the Sologne to Château de Chambord, the Loire’s largest palace. Inside, climb the double-helix staircase long linked with Leonardo’s ideas, then wander past hunting emblems, vaulted halls and a roofline bristling with chimneys and lanterns commissioned by Francois I.
From the terraces, pause for photos and reflection across lawns and game-rich parkland before gliding back along the Loire riverbank toward Blois. Evening light gilds poplars and villages as you soak in the lakeside atmosphere of this broad, unhurried river. It’s a grand finale that pairs Renaissance ambition with the simple pleasure of smooth, scenic cycling.
