Valpolicella Vineyards Loop Ride
On day 3, head into the rolling Morainic hills to pedal into the Valpolicella Classico zone, where pergola-trained vines climb sun-warmed terraces. Quiet lanes thread between cherry orchards and stone hamlets, with balconies perfumed by rosemary and wisteria. Your e-bike’s assist lets you crest gentle rises and soak in the vineyard scenery at a relaxed cadence.
Along the route you’ll pass family estates producing Amarone and Ripasso, wines shaped by the historical appassimento drying of grapes. Romanesque parish churches and low dry-stone walls speak to centuries of agricultural craft. Return along the same route, with time to enjoy a free evening near the waterfront as the hills blush with late-day light.
Borghetto sul Mincio & Valeggio Circuit via Visconti Bridge
On day 4, follow the gentle towpath to roll along the Mincio toward Borghetto sul Mincio, a postcard-perfect village of mills and weirs clustered beneath the monumental Ponte Visconteo (Visconti Bridge). From here, climb gradually to Valeggio for wide views across green Morainic hills quilted with vines and cypresses.
At the crest, climb to the Scaliger Castle for panoramic ramparts, then drift back through lanes famed for tortellini di Valeggio, a delicate, hand-folded pasta traditionally tied with a “knot of love.” Nearby lies Parco Giardino Sigurtà, one of Italy’s most lauded gardens—an inviting stop if you wish to enter later as an optional visit—before your easy roll back along riverside paths.
Sirmione Peninsula & Lugana Vineyards Ride via Peschiera del Garda
On day 5, follow the Mincio to trace the canals of Peschiera del Garda, threading through its UNESCO-listed fortifications and bridges before continuing to Sirmione. Wander the lanes of Sirmione beneath the towers of Scaligero Castle, where bright boats rock against stone quays and the lake mirrors pastel facades.
Loop past low-lying Lugana vineyards, where the local Turbiana grape thrives in clay-rich soils, producing crisp whites with saline notes. If time allows, pause for photos and reflection near the Roman villa ruins of the Grotte di Catullo, or simply enjoy the peninsula’s turquoise waters before returning along quiet roads to your hotel.
Mincio Cycleway to Mantua & Historic Center Time
On day 6, follow the Mincio cycleway to Mantua, riding through reeds and meadows as herons lift from the water’s edge. Enter the city across the Ponte dei Mulini and circle the lakefront for views of Mantua’s Renaissance skyline—domes, towers and red-brick palazzi shimmering in the moat-like lakes.
Lock the bikes to stroll past Piazza Sordello, the Basilica di Sant’Andrea and the intimate Rotonda di San Lorenzo, Mantua’s oldest church. Learn how the Gonzaga court nurtured artists and architects whose legacy endures in frescoed halls and harmonious squares. You can enjoy a free afternoon in town, then either ride the opposite riverbank back or shorten the return by local bus.
Bardolino Wine & Garda Olive Oil Tasting
On day 2, take a break from the saddle for a guided tasting in Bardolino. Join a host to sample regional wines such as Bardolino Classico and the pale-rosé Chiaretto, paired with morsels of local cheese and bread. You’ll also taste DOP Garda extra-virgin olive oil, prized for its light, almond-tinged profile thanks to breezy lake microclimates.
Hear how morainic soils and lake influences shape elegant, food-friendly styles, and learn serving tips from cellar temperature to glassware. This experience is at additional cost and bookable on tour through your local agent, with tastings typically lasting about an hour.
Valpolicella Cellar Tour & Amarone Tasting
On day 3, step inside a traditional cantina to sample regional wines—Valpolicella Classico, Ripasso, and the majestic Amarone. Walk through the fruttaio, where grapes rest on racks for the historic appassimento process, concentrating aromas of cherry, spice and cocoa.
Your host explains vineyard practices, from pergola training to hillside exposures, and how these choices shape structure and longevity. Tastings are led by passionate growers and include small bites to reset the palate. This visit is at additional cost and bookable on tour; your agent can suggest respected producers along your route.
Parco Giardino Sigurtà Admission & Garden Stroll
On day 4, exchange pedals for pathways inside Parco Giardino Sigurtà, a multi-award-winning landscape near Valeggio. Wander avenues of cypresses, reflective water gardens and long rose-lined walks, pausing at viewpoints toward the Scaliger Castle. Birdsong, fragrance and manicured lawns invite an unhurried pace.
Founded on a seventeenth-century estate and restored with vision in the twentieth century, the park’s seasonal displays—spring tulips, summer roses—offer a living timeline of horticultural style. Entry is at additional cost and bookable on tour; allow 1–2 hours to explore before rejoining the cycle route.
Sirmione Scaligero Castle & Grotte di Catullo Entry
On day 5, step inside Scaligero Castle via its drawbridge to climb timber stairways and pause for photos and reflection over the harbor’s teal water. Continue to the headland to explore the Grotte di Catullo, the atmospheric remains of a grand Roman villa set among olive trees with sweeping lake views.
Learn how the castle’s strategic harbor controlled medieval trade routes and how Roman elites used the peninsula’s microclimate for leisure and baths. Both sites require tickets and are at additional cost, bookable on tour or purchased on arrival, subject to opening times.
Aquaria Thermal Spa Evening in Sirmione
After the ride on day 5, slip into the thermal pools of Aquaria, Sirmione’s lakeside spa fed by mineral-rich springs. Alternate between outdoor infinity baths, steam rooms and gentle hydromassage jets as twilight falls, with water at a soothing warmth and the lake’s lights kindling along the shore.
Thermal bathing has been a tradition since Roman times on this peninsula, prized for its restorative qualities after a day in the saddle. Entry is at additional cost and bookable on tour, with timed sessions and towel rental available on site.
Mantua Museums: Palazzo Ducale or Palazzo Te
On day 6, deepen your visit with tickets to Palazzo Ducale or Palazzo Te. In the Ducal Palace, seek out Mantegna’s Camera degli Sposi, where illusionistic frescoes lift the ceiling to the sky. At Palazzo Te, Giulio Romano’s Sala dei Giganti surrounds you with tumbling gods and roaring stone—a virtuoso display of late Renaissance imagination.
These masterpieces illuminate Mantua’s role as a Renaissance court shaped by the Gonzaga. Entries are at additional cost and bookable on tour; your agent can advise opening hours and the best sequence if combining both.
Lazise, Bardolino & Garda Lakeside Ride with Ferry to Sirmione
On day 2, trace the riverside path toward Lake Garda and join a lakeside ride to Lazise, where medieval historical centre, crenellated walls and a colourful harbour set a photogenic scene. Continue through olive groves to Bardolino, celebrated for wine and DOP Garda olive oil, then follow the waterfront into Garda for a gelato break by the promenade.
Board the public ferry and take the ferry to Sirmione, gliding past cypress-dotted shores and the ramparts of Scaligero Castle. The ride blends easy cycling with breezy boat travel, letting you pause for photos and reflection as the peninsula’s turquoise waters open wide. Disembark to continue riding back toward your base as the lake light softens.
E-bike Fitting, Navigation App Briefing & Warm-up Spin by the Mincio
On day 1, meet your Headwater-appointed agent for an easy start to the week. Enjoy an expert e-bike fitting, saddle and handlebar adjustments, and a quick skills check before a short warm-up spin along the gentle paths beside the Mincio River. You’ll learn how to use the Headwater navigation app for turn-by-turn guidance and battery-saving tips for hilly sections.
Your host outlines the routes to Lazise and Bardolino, the Valpolicella hills, Borghetto and Valeggio, Sirmione and the day ride to Mantua, including local etiquette and ferry procedures for bikes. If you’re staying near Peschiera del Garda, you can enjoy a free afternoon strolling its Venetian star-fort—pentagonal bastions and UNESCO-listed fortifications reflected in quiet canals.
