Cruising Scotland’s Scenic Waterways

After breakfast, we check out of the hotel and board the coach for the journey home.

Cruise on Loch Katrine, a tranquil ribbon of water framed by the peaks of Ben A’an and Ben Venue in the heart of the Trossachs. The glassy surface and tree-lined shores evoke the romantic landscapes that inspired Sir Walter Scott, while tales of Rob Roy add Highland intrigue to the scene.

Travel through forested glens to Callander and onward to historic Stirling, where its mighty castle crowns a volcanic crag. Learn how Loch Katrine’s Victorian aqueducts supplying Glasgow since 1859 transformed city life, and pause for photos and reflection amid landscapes that bridge Highland drama with Lowland history.

Ride the world’s only rotating boat lift aboard the remarkable Falkirk Wheel. Your vessel eases into a vast water-filled caisson, then rises with effortless grace to link the Union Canal and Forth & Clyde Canal, a serene, sky-high glide with far-reaching views.

Discover how precision-balanced engineering lifts boats 35 metres between the waterways using surprisingly little power. After the rotation, glide along the aqueduct and into Rough Castle Tunnel, where echoes, masonry and the scent of damp stone bring two centuries of Scotland’s canal heritage close at hand.

Sail beneath the Three Bridges spanning the Firth of Forth, a time-spanning trio that frames Edinburgh’s northern seascape: the red steel cantilevers of the Forth Bridge (UNESCO World Heritage), the elegant suspension of the Forth Road Bridge, and the sleek cables of the Queensferry Crossing.

Hear stories of Victorian ambition and 21st-century design as sea breezes carry the cry of seabirds around island outcrops like Inchgarvie. From salt-tinged air to the rhythmic churn of the boat, this cruise pairs big-scale engineering with coastal panoramas and ever-changing North Sea light.

Visit the award-winning Riverside Museum, a dynamic collection of transport and travel housed in a flowing structure designed by Zaha Hadid on the banks of the River Clyde. Wander past vintage trams, locomotives and gleaming cars, and step onto a recreated 1900s Glasgow street alive with period shopfronts.

Trace the city’s rise from shipbuilding powerhouse to creative capital through hands-on exhibits and maritime stories. After your museum visit, make the most of central Glasgow’s galleries, cafés and grand squares, or enjoy a free afternoon browsing Buchanan Street’s arcades during your time in the city.

Set out to cruise the waters of Loch Lomond, gliding past wooded isles and the long sweep of the bonnie banks. Views open to the Highland sentinel of Ben Lomond, with light shifting across heathered slopes and sheltered bays that feel far from the bustle of the Lowlands.

Gain a sense of Scotland’s rugged geography where the Highland Boundary Fault meets one of Britain’s largest freshwater lochs. Hear stories of clans and crofters, and watch for islands like Inchmurrin while the crisp air, quiet ripples and mountain silhouettes set an unhurried pace.
